Climbing is 100% out of comfort zone, until you yourself comforts "it" the tree doesn't care either way. Food for thought

My Paternal Grandfather used to teach lessons like this...he'd just have you do it and then correct you after you'd done it all the hard/wrong way. School of hard knocks under his watchful semi protective gaze taught lessons that you'd always remember for a lifetime.

I'm sure Evan knows how lucky he is to have a coach like yourself. Emotional support and instruction like that to a new climber can be extremely valuable. When the Evan did his first climb I thought it was evident that he has what it takes to become a climber. My hat's off to you August for being the most patient instructor on the planet.

My fear of heights would never let me be a climber. But if I was to be a climber, I would definitely want it to be August who's teaching me the ropes (pun intended, but still, I would want it to be August that taught me).

Seeing that block swinging toward that guy reminded me of when I first started working for the electric department of of this little one horse town. My supervisor was running the boom truck to lift a utility pole off the trailer, for some unknown reason he starts running boom out without running rope out. I was waiting below to hook up to pole and thought why is the hook not near me yet and looked up to see block wedged in rope guide at the end of the boom l wasn’t aware that boss was running rope out after it was wedged and next thing I knew I felt something brush the top of my hat ( yep no hard hat ) 6 more inches of free rope and wife and family would have been set for life😳 I looked up at my boss and he had no clue😡

Merry Christmas all! Hey August. Could you do a video explaining how you use your zig zag as a secondary and how you use it to hang from to get better positioning and relive your back? I watch all to the videos and I’m a new arborist and want to have a safe secondary tie in and a repel system, I currently only use a flip line and a second flip line wrapped around the tree as a secondary. I know you explain lots while in these trees and it’s been amazing learning from you, but to have a zig zag explained video and all it’s uses would be amazing. Maby you have done this? I know you give good pointers with it in videos but a dedicated video for it would help me and my questions so much. I know others explain it on videos but I just feel you would tell the tale the best. Happy holidays and take care team!

Nice first crane pick, well done! Wouldn't first a small snip on the far side an inch or so in, then cutting through from Evan's side , let the pick have some directional play if needed to leave the cut cleaner without the tendency to maybe bind the bar? Especially on large picks.

I've done it SRT like that but it's bad practice. Handy when you're blocking out. I've been lazy and didn't use a Prussik loop to choke my lifeline. Technically you need a rope wrench system if you go SRT. For Petzl Zig Zags, can only use a Chicane.
@LCPWirraway
@LCPWirraway Жыл бұрын
And also hadn't tied a stopper knot with the excess on carabiner end of the lifeline. Ergo why people love using spliced lines.

@@LCPWirraway the first time I used a zig zag I skipped a link and it still worked. I weigh 200 plus lbs with gear at the time. I've never gone srt. To scared to go solo. 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

Word for today. 1st Timothy Chapter 6:7-12 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses... Amen. Isaiah 54-17 God's word for his people who believe .. [17] No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD... JESUS Matthew 6:33-34 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Amen .🙂
