Im almost in my 50s and for some reason, love watching this stuff. I imagine myself up in the trees, rigging and cutting, it just looks like good work. I started climbing trees about a 1.5 years ago for fun and wish I had given this a try. Something about being outside, getting up in the trees, figuring rigging problems and then making cuts fascinates me.

Dang, you must have some big balls to do what you do. Fascinating to watch but I have to admit that I experienced some serious pucker factor. Great to see the way you guys work together to get this job done. Skill, knowledge, keeping a very cool head, and teamwork - well done. My hat's off to you.

I just turned 56 day after Christmas i used to do tree work when I was 18 , 19 , i bought a place 7 years ago and I new when I bought it that the at least 25 year old pen oak's was going to have to be topped out. So i bought me probably the cheapest pole spurs I could find on Amazon and 200' of good climbing rope and I have a old school climbing belt nothing more than what we used way back in the great 1900s 1984 to be exact. Just found your channel. I did tree work as a younger man. I'm 46 now. I was a good ground man because I'm not afraid of work but I let fear take over once i started climbing. Great work once again August! You are a blessed instructor. Oh, that most of our trees were decurrent in form. In the Midwest we are suffered to the use of throw lines due to the spreading nature of our canopies. In contrast, the throw line is a cursed instructor. Any hour watching you is worth a thousand hours with that demon:)

I like how you climbed up with the spikes and set your climbing line by hand when you got to the top. I would try all day to throw a bean bag up in the tree. That was a great lesson learned.

I don't know where you are, but it looks like Oregon... beautiful area! I live not far from Salem, OR. I purchased a bunch of gear from the local rigging supply store and have been learning to climb trees just for fun and exercise. The cool and wet weather has slowed me down, but I am enjoying your videos and learning what I can from you and others. I am especially interested in your rigging techniques. I am also impressed by your work high in the trees where the branches are so small. It is rather inspirational to see what is possible. I can't wait for warmer, drier weather...

It always amazes me how much stress the tree limbs can take, the bit of trunk you were on at the top of the tree was not that thick but it still took your weight and the other tree, great explanation August, stay safe and have a nice end of year holiday

This is an information overload. #1 why have I been unhooking the carabiner from the zig zag every time? #2 you basically just hold the tree with your hands and spur up. The ropes are just for show during ascent. Seeing you climb reminds me I need more practice at climbing. #3 after 37 years of knowing that the weight is doubled on each rope when you have a pulley, I never fully understood why. Thanks for explaining it in one short sentence 🙄

Man I've seen something august does that is correct and I don't see alot of arborist do this often enough when cutting limbs he left the holding wood on top and cut the bottom of the limb good job the little trees are always the funnest

Had a couple of questions. In terms of a a friction saver set up like seen in this video, what's your preferred set up for a friction saver that's checkered off onto a stem and not over a crotch? I use whatever is handy in the tree. I may use a stob like that to use as a Porta wrap because the guy I have on the ground isn't as experienced as I am running ropes so I'll do it myself.

You should come work in Northern California. Pretty soon we can only use electric saws.

That's how I do it mostly, then you can subconsciously check the tree on way up.
