There is nothing more beautiful and spectacular than these lights on earth.

I simply can't imagine that one could look at something this spectacular and think it all came about because of a big bang. The wonders of our universe continue to amaze and awe me.

I have seen this many times and it takes my breath away every time. I live in north-west Norway. One I will never forget was like a black hole in the sky with colerfull shooting flames around it. Its never the same, and the colder and clearer it is, the more beautifull it becomes.

Best Aurora video on the web, even though it's not video. And the music suits it perfectly because it's primitive, brutal, mysterious and organic -- like the lights themselves.

when i was in Alaska during the 60s i would see them almost every night in the winter while walking guard duty on a nike missal site way up north. they make the strangest sounds you ever heard. I was up in the mountains and at times it was 30 below zero or more, some nights there wouldn't even be a breeze, just dead silence, wolves and crunching snow from my boots and this weird sizzle.

Thank the protons and neutrons that are being emitted from the sun and colliding with our atmosphere at high speeds, making them become very electrically charged and as a result, producing this amazing phenomenon.

The sun gives off high-energy charged particles (also called ions)As this interacts with the edge of the earth's magnetic field, some of the particles are trapped by it and they follow the lines of magnetic force down into the ionosphere. When the particles collide with the gases in the ionosphere they start to glow, producing the spectacle that we know as the auroras. The array of colours consists of red, green, blue and violet. :) highschool science class paid off.
