AURORA performs 'Life on Mars' live during a concert in Nidarosdomen. This was my second song of hers that I've heard and reacted to. Once again, she's again exceeded my expectations.
Source: tv.nrk.no/program/DMTL2128001...
The video is of AURORA's concert in Nidarosdomen (Nidaros cathedral), Trondheim, Norway. She performed in front of a sold-out audience alongside her band, TrondheimSolistene (ensemble/orchestra), Oslo Fagottkor (choir), Petra Bjørkhaug (organist) and Ruth Potter (harpist). This concert was recorded on the 2nd of November, 2017 and was broadcast by NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) on the 28th of December, 2017. Some songs that were originally performed that night were cut from the broadcast.

Welcome to my “Modern Life for the 70's Mind” KZfaq Channel. On this channel, I not only take a look at the songs and history that made us who we are today, but also introduce you to today's modern music as well. Any songs that combine the two are always a winner. I've always loved music and have always tried to keep a balance between the classic music I fell in love with and today's MUCH DIFFERENT sounds. Here's we'll analyze both. We’ll even take some time and revisit some of the old parts of our past that have disappeared from today’s shelves and most people’s memories. Let’s relive those moments together! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking time out of your day to check in. I appreciate it more than I can say here.

I think, the difference between Bowie's original and this cover is, that Bowie sang it from the viewpoint of a (cynical) observer and Aurora included the feelings of the girl into her singing.

Great reaction. We are of similar vintage. Last concert I attended was Jethro Tull. I discovered Aurora by accident on KZfaq about a year ago. Now I can't seem to get enough of her. I have bought all her albums to date! The last time I remember actually buying an album was The Traveling Wilburys! There are many good reaction suggestions here already. You are definitely in for a treat now that you have found Aurora. I first watched Runaway and Murder Song recorded at the Peace Prize Concert and I was hooked!

You really need to listen to the live version of "A different Kind of human" I had my son when he was 6 sat on my knee and played it to him because he's autistic and I cried like a baby. Because my Son is a different kind of human but a very special one to me.

As you have probably noticed. This girl is loved. A lot. Discovering Aurora has been like a religious experience for me. Her talent, her voice, her ability to extract and place emotions to and from deep within the soul, her quirkiness, her purity, her personality. All of it. The combination of it all means she just takes complete control over ones heart and soul. I recommend "Murder song" and "Runaway" at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. Those are mandatory introduction songs that really show her ability to completely dissolve into a medium that channels emotion. I also recommend "Lucky" and "Through The Eyes of a Child" live at Nidarosdomen. These two performances just cuts into your heart again when you thought you'd already felt it all. Then I recommend watching the whole Nidarosdomen performance. To see the totality of it is a journey that for my part changed my life. It's that good. The HAIK concert is next on my recommendation list. This takes part in a moss covered deep forest, which is the perfect environment for her, the wood nymph that she is. Nidarosdomen is perfect for her voice, but the forest resonates with her personality and soul, which makes for a very good performance. I also recommend watching the whole HAIK documentary, which shows her genuine and loving personality. The performance at the much more intimate KEXP in Iceland is up there with the best of her. Here we get to see a much more energetic and lively Aurora. We get to see her amazing dancing and vibes. Lovely. You should also check out some of her covers. Essentials are: Teardrop by Massive Attack and Believer by Imagine dragons. Other recommendations are: A different kind of human - Live at Christines radio festival, I went too far - Live at Honda Stage, Infections of a different kind - Live at HAIK. But she has lots lots more that is incredible. Then there's her new stuff, which is just so good, but has to be saved for last. Except perhaps for "Exist for love" if you want a sneak peek. It's a heart melter.

Congrats on scoring the Aurora concert tickets ! Loving your heartfelt reactions and am looking forward to more. One of the things that has struck me about her is the fact that during all of the live settings I've seen her perform, the crowd is always completely hushed from beginning to end regardless the size of the venue ! The truest testament to her totally captivating deliveries. Might I suggest "Murder Song" and "Runaway" from the Nobel Peace Prize concert, and "Lucky", "Through The Eyes Of A Child", and "Winter Bird" from this Nidarosdomen concert !

Another great reaction 😊👍I think she talked about her name in an interview a long time ago. If I remember correctly it was something about that, both her older sisters have dark eyes and dark hair, and then she came along with blue eyes and light hair. So they named her Aurora, after the light. (But as I said, it was a long time ago, so I might remember wrong)

Hello again... this was another wonderful reaction to a wondeful song in a wonderful venue... I really enjoyed this one as much as you did. In fact, this was the very first song I ever heard from Aurora (not this version, but from another concert, where she sings this song and accompanies herself at the keyboard. After this song, I was so touched that I searched for more songs from her. And after two more Aurora songs, I decided to buy her CDs and become a fan. As I already suggested, you should do a reaction on the whole concert, believe me, it is worth the effort you put into it. Aurora has so many wonderful covers that you could listen to and fall in love with. Her most beautiful BESIDES this one here, are : Across the Universe (The Beatles), Believer (Imagine Dragons) and Teardrop (Massive Attack)... besides some others, of course. When it comes to covers, Aurora is a bit like King Midas to me. Everything she touches (musically), turns to gold... Can't wait for your next Aurora reaction... Best wishes from Germany : Gerry PS : I am jealous about you now... you will see her live ! I tried to get tickets for her concert at the nearest place from where I live... but all was sold out already. 😞

The first time i saw her i was a bit weary of being out of place in the audience but at 65 with a mental age of much younger ( i believe ) i am due to see her at the end of March and again the beginning of April . At the beginning of the song she is basically saying how much she loves song and wishes she had written it (at least thats what saw in some subtitles once)

People really love the Nidarosdomen concert, the enthusiasm around it always gives me a chuckle while scrolling the comment section, and it is without a doubt a beautiful performance. But songs like this one (life on mars) and Through the eyes of a child have versions on youtube i find absolutely breathtaking. No need for a reaction video, but i had to mention them. Life on Mars was the first song by Aurora that made me fall in love with her, I went back and listened to most (all?) of her work many times since. The song from this particular concert that truly stands out is 'lucky' - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d9OEnNSDl8W6cas.html But if you want to see her entire face and body taken by her song and where she goes while singing it, do 'Murder song - 5,4,3,2,1' from the Nobel peace price concert. She was quite young when she performed it (19 I believe) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rM5ghrqFu928qKs.html She does have songs that are more up-beat as well, a great example is 'Churchyard' live at KEXP - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLB8qKppyJeVd58.html - very different than the two songs you have heard. Welcome to the club of Aurora addiction! ( I got tickets to see her in Minneapolis in May, can't wait!) - there is also her concert from Lollapalooza in Chicago from 2016 that is a quite spectacular watch. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fcdoabGmqr-tgqM.html

Aurora: God is a women (Ariane Grande) Life on Mars (David Bowie) Teardrop (Massiv Attack) Rasputin (Bonny M) Wrecking Ball Into the Unknown (Disney's Frozen) Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen) Half the world away Are all coversong that Aurora has broken down to the essentials, if they haven't been before. She also likes to do that with her own faster songs. One just listen to her voice and actually to the lyrics. For example, I never paid attention to the lyrics of Bonny M's original Rasputin. With Aurora, I do this automatically because I also know she has stories to tell. She chooses the songs she covers very carefully. She doesn't sing anything she doesn't feel and doesn't stand for. "God is a women" is a song she didn't choose. A radio show gave her that. Those were the rules of the game. She had 30 minutes to make something out of the song. As a result, she threw out and replaced lyrics she didn't like. She is a genius. She changed the entire mood of the song. Drastically speaking, she turned a sex song into a love song. Simply great. All songs can be found on youtube. In general, it can be said that Aurora's live performances are always better than the studio recordings because they also develop their songs. The album versions were never the finished versions you can say. Aurora is too much of a perfectionist for that. And what she still likes today may look very different tomorrow. This can be seen above all in the more upbeat songs that are made for her label, but shortly after release she released acoustic versions. Although I think that these are her original ideas and only later upbeat was made of it. Not at all, but some.

Thanks for your great reaction! You have a lot to see and hear from Aurora. I think, I may be wrong not being a Norwegian speaker, but Nidarosdomen is pronounced NEED-a-roas-doh-men (roas as in roast). It's also called Nidaros Domkirke, and Nidaros Cathedral. It's a medieval cathedral in Trondheim, Norway, built when Trondheim was called Nidaros in medieval times. The acoustics must be wonderful, but this concert was masterfully sound engineered, and filmed. It was filmed in 2017 (Aurora was 21 at the time) and aired on Norwegian TV at Christmas that year. The whole concert is amazing (and available to watch on KZfaq). Turn on the subtitles for the Norwegian parts. Before Life on Mars she says "This is a really, really beautiful song. It's not mine, but I wish it was. Perhaps, in a way it's everyone's song"

Hello, a little hint: "It happened quiet" is sung live on a (I think) radio station --> "Live at The Current". I think most singers would be happy if their studio versions sounded as perfect as this concert. There are 2 concerts by AURORA that are different than anything I've known before. 1. Nidarosdomen - in Norway's largest cathedral 2. HAIK - a concert in the forest. AURORA grew up near the forest and went there very often as a child. She is very, very close to nature. There are 2 videos from the HAIK concert. A short one with the concert in the forest and a long one. The broadcaster HAIK has given AURORA a whole day of surprises. There are also interviews with AURORA on the car trips in between. There is also a mini concert. She sings a song for two of her biggest fans. Pure emotions, tears of joy. The long version is worth checking out. There are also English subtitles for both (1 + 2). Have a nice day and Greetings from Germany

If you want to research Aurora there are a few documentaries to recommend: Nothing is Eternal (self narrative) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/atyUddKjsJybpJ8.html Once Aurora - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLqJi9p8y7Xanqs.html HAIK Aurora (Norway) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pMWlipBhraq7n5c.html The last one comes with a full concert as a surprise to Aurora set in a forest that she spent a lot of her time getting lost in as a child. I believe it is here that forest nymphs bestowed her with her vocal gifts. Enjoy :)

Another great reaction. If I can leave any recommendation, it's definitely her cover of Massive Attack's Teardrop. Also, didn't know you're from Chicago. Don't know if you ever heard of an artist named Sufjan Stevens. I consider him the male equivalent of Aurora and he made an album inspired by Illinois (Come On Feel the Illinoise!). Maybe you could give it a try at some point. His song "John Wayne Gacy Jr." is imho one of the most amazing tracks ever and it'll definitely be up your alley given how much you enjoyed It Happened Quiet

You should checkout Angelina Jordan, a young singer from Norway, she has over 130 covers plus 5 or 6 originals. She won Norways Got Talent at the age of 8. She sings alot of Jazz standards. Her performance of Queens Bohemian Rapsidy on AGT drew praise from Queen. I would suggest starting with I Put A Spell On You, b&w version when she was 9. She is 16 now

Next to do is reacting to Auroras 5,4,3,2,1, Murder Song, live on the Nobel Peace Price concert, is awesome to. But also you can react to the whole Nidarosdromen stuff, and get some handkarechiefs with you, you will need it. If you like older stuff from the 50‘ 60‘ 70‘ listen to Angelina Jordan. She is from Norway to and now 16 years old. She sings a lot of Jazz stuff from that times and belive me, you will be surprised. Beginn with „ I put a spell on you „ black and white version. There she is in the age of 10. I’m excited to your next reactions.

I prefer this version. Her piano here probably sounds a bit like your music box. I think Aurora sounds better when she sings "stripped versions" - with one or two friends, and few instruments - like the version you covered in "It happened quiet". @@ModernLifeForThe70sMind Yes 👍 She found an electric piano in the attic when she was 6 , and started playing. Her family knew nothing about her talent until she was about 13 years old. She kept it a secret for a long time 😳 And yes, why couldn’t we been born with a talent like that? It’s unfair 😅 No, there shouldn’t be more Auroras in the world, cause then she wouldn’t be unique ❤️
