The only thing more surprising that the pure authenticity and enormous creativity of Aurora is that she has yet to be slapped across every major billboard and music publication in existence. She's been a budding superstar since age 11, when she first wrote this song.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Aurora for the first time, performing "Runaway” at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert.

She's one of the avatars of nature born every 1000 years to remind us that we came from the Earth and that the Earth will consume us one day, but also that we are part of the Earth and that all of us - humans, animals, plants, bacteria, even the air, water, soil and heat are all connected in ways we can't understand but have to accept in order to maintain balance. My guess is Aurora got tired of sitting around on an island singing to passing ships to lure sailors to their death, so she opted to come to civilization and enchant people in mass numbers. This girl is magical. I've never heard anything quite like her before, and never had 100% of a singers songs be something I really enjoy, yet here we are.

@@LactoMoraes nah. She’s not channeling spirits or some other things, it’s incredible talent all done by herself. If you believe in spirits or similar stuff, and that when you’re entranced by what you’re doing that you’re channeling spirits, then that’s totally fine. But don’t claim that other people are affected by your faith, and that you can “confirm” that. That’s just incredibly rude and disrespectful to them and their beliefs.

Aurora actually said herself that she moves around so much during performance because she cannot contain the musical energy she feels. In her first 2 years of performing, she used to struggle with this and shake her hands a lot during singing. Later on she learned how to move and dance with it. She says the energy comes from the place music is comes from

Fun fact: Aurora has talked about suspected/being tested for autism (though I think she called it Asperger's but, yk) and the hand and arm movements are something a lot of us do to process music! Some are more fluid, some only do it with clear notes, some of us get every note we can with our arms, wrists and fingers. It's bringing a tangible expression to our unique sensory experiences as a result of unique brain structure. :)

I absolutely agree with that quote! When I was a kid I loved walking around barefoot. Even when I raced people I preferred barefooted. The feel of the earth, grass and more balance and control. I read a science paper on how the human foot is perfectly designed to walk barefoot. Shoes make our feet weak and fragile.

I am 78 and there isnt much in the music planet I have not listened to. I stumbled upon this after lsitening to her brilliant cover of Bowie's Life on Mars. Brilliant because she understands the narrative must dominate above all else and she is THE ONLY PERFORMER wise and gifted enough to let the words breathe within the melody. Unlike ANY OTHER PERFORMER who has covered this with pounding guitars/drums and voice to match, she understates and gently performs in her haunting way and you hear the wonder of the song and are embraced by her. Then I saw this and despite it being an analysis I found myself sobbing and emptied of all my emotions. What an amazing and truly rare talent and human being she is. WHAT A GIFT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN.

Her hand movements may seem odd to others, but it tells me that she is so into the song that she is in a total different world. That she is alone pouring her hart out feeling every word and sound as if its burst of color and beautiful strokes of a painting. As if she stepped of the stage and into a empty space where she can be a hundred percent herself. I absolutely love it makes me want to cry to see someone so a hundred percent themselves and loving what they do. Its amazing that she shares that with everyone allowing other to see that and feel alone with her.

Welcome to the world of Aurora! No two songs are alike. No two performances are alike. You should see her now. She just continues to evolve at a wonderful rate. She sings with her whole body. When she first was dragged sooooo reluctantly on stage, she was, by her own admission, not only terrified, but tried to stand still, as she was told, but could not. Once she began singing, she always went (still does) completely into the song. She said the energy of it had to go somewhere, so it would come out as rather jerky hand and arm movements which she was unaware of until she saw herself on camera. Over time, she stopped trying to "stand still" and her movements became graceful and truly a part of the story she tells with every song. She is, btw, also an accomplished dancer, as you will see if you continue to review her music. :) And, no, no voice training. Dance training, yes.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for introducing me to AURORA. I have spent the last two days listening to everything of hers on KZfaq. Like others this song brings me to tears every time I listen to it. I just listened to AURORA going through the song and breaking down the lyrics. It’s fun to hear her be thankful to her 11 year old self. She says every time she sings this she learns more about herself and the song. I was touched when she talked about “going home” and how she remembers that being in her mother’s arms is the safest and most comfortable place to be. I know my daughter feels that about her mother. What a magical, mysterious, and wonderful position to hold in a child’s life! I found AURORA will be performing here in Denver, CO in May. Now to see if I can get a ticket! I’m thankful for all the commenter’s that have helped me make the decision to attend!

Listen to Aurora - Live at Nidarosdomen. Basically every song, but I like especially "Through the eyes of a child", "It happened quiet" and "Life on mars"

I feel like with aurora, people try to break her down in her expressions (body movements and voice)... but when she records/performs she’s not saying “this is planned... I’m going to do this and that to make the audience feel a certain way or to sound a certain way.” She’s just bearing her soul and letting it flow out. I don’t know how to put it into words. It’s a natural expression of body and mind? Like an inner monologue being brought forward. Mind. Blowing.

actually she had a performance at "like a version" (you can find it here on youtube, i think it was with the song warrior) where she talks a little bit about why she is moving so much

People say negative things about her moving around like that, but I bet most of them do even more flailing around when they really let go and sing along to the radio in the shower or the privacy of our own rooms. Aurora just lets everyone see it.

You should really check out how she's working on finding sounds and stuff. So dedicated to put her own take on whatever she touches. Also.. The way she is as a person; kinda floating, free in mind, and see the world. I respect everyone who dare to do that; Be themselves! Especially in Norway, she dares sticking out, in a society where people are kinda private and to little, dare to stick out...but in a good way. Not sticking out, by copying others that sticks out, copying others. But just, are themselves. A good example of how she inspires others is: Aurora was what inspired Billie Eilish, and making her realise, that's what she wanted to do - Do what Aurora does, but.. not copying. Putting herself out there, take the leap, still being herself 100%! Which is important - for the Billie Eilish we know now, making stuff at home etc. Not being swallowed by greedy producers. Not like the - opposite - Britney generation, who basically sold their soul to become famous. Aurora, Billie Eilish.. While it's still pop, it's authentic. It's real art by true artists. Like Aurora says: “I think the world needs more artists who just do what they want.'' In general.. More ppl should dare, and believe in them self, and to more of what they want to do!

Ok. It's official. I'm not crazy. Your expressions are literally mine when I first discovered this special soul. Words are useless, feelings are the only way...Aurora must be protected at all cost you would think but somehow I know she's far wiser than anyone that walks the earth.

This is her best song, I agree with your statements about her. Though you put it more beautifully than I could. Thanks for listening to her.
