A curious statistic... At one point in the chase (with the video at 6:55) Stokes was on 64 and Broad was on 1. Some time later (with the video at 10:00) and they'd both exactly doubled their scores: Stokes to 128 and Broad to 2!

I remember a few years back, Stokes was playing test in India, Tamil Nadu, and it was summer. If you know Tamil Nadu summer, you know its serious hot. It was so bad that most bowlers, including spinners, stopped or could not bowl, but Stokes kept bowling from one end. His face was red from the sunburn, and he had cramps a few times, but he kept bowling so that other bowlers could rest. That day he got my respect. His tenacity is out of this world.

The Bairstow dismissal really set off Ben Stokes. He understood that there would be only bodyline bowling, so each delivery he cleared his front leg, making room, and with the power under his belt, no boundary is long enough. Yes he lived by the sword, 3 dropped chances, and he died by the sword. But excellent counter-attacking 155 from him. And also Ben Duckett slowly making his presence felt against the best sides in the world. But excellent, competitive cricket from both teams and a fascinating end to a test match at Lord's on the 5th day.❤ Long Live Test Cricket!!

Yeah Duckett was excellent when playing the short ball. I watched the match live and saw his whole innings and he seemed to have no discomfort whatsoever in playing short balls. He scored so many runs in the fine leg region by just tapping the short ball and keeping it grounded. Unfortunately he got out on the same ball he scored so many runs against.

Liked what Nasser Hussain said in the post match session that Team England can still win it 3-2 but they will HAVE to be Ruthless and Street Smart moving on. And the example of Alex Carey he highlighted was spot on. Carey noticed Bairstow leaving his crease for 3 consecutive deliveries... took his chance, fired the ball at the stumps on the last ball of the over and got him run out. That's ruthlessness... that's being street smart and that's what wins you matches.

Magnificent performance by Australia. Smith, Khawaja, Head & Warner all contributed significantly with the bat. Cummins and Starc impressed most with the ball. Alex Carey had a brilliant game with the gloves. He was the difference maker in the second innings running out his opposite number, taking a top catch to remove Duckett, involved in the Stokes dismissal and allowing 0 byes.

I think there's quite a bit of improvement to be made in the way Australia played this game. Their lack of ability to handle the short ball was highlighted in the Second Innings. It remains to be seen how much the English attack wants to use this approach for the remaining matches. But it wouldn't surprise me to see quite a bit of short-pitched stuff heading the way of the Aussies beginning later this week.
