I'm so so happy you reacted to this one omg! This song is so underrated! I think it's one of their most important songs ever. Thank you for joining the Clique, it's fun to see new people introduced to my favorite band! I love that you also immediately picked up on the Moonlight Sonata vibes. It's not moonlight sonata, BUT Moonlight Sonata is in C# minor and Neon Gravestones is in B minor. The notes follow the same exact pattern just barely higher, and the triplet rhythm is the same. So you're right, and I have to believe this was the intention. it's also intentional that this song about glorifying suicide never says the word "suicide." If you ever get the chance to see them live absolutely jump on that opportunity if you can, I've never been to a more incredible or intimate show.

I always felt he had Chester Bennington in mind when he wrote it. Tyler was told don’t put this song on his album because it would ruin his career..I’m glad he didn’t listen because obviously it didn’t ❤

Using suicide as a threat isn’t new, but social media lets us all have access to other people’s personal dramas in a way that didn’t happen for previous generations. And I do think it’s had a contagion effect. Seeing that someone else has committed the deed can embolden a person with thoughts of self harm to follow through with action. I think Tyler would like his community to recommit to the battle of staying alive. That battle isn’t new, either. But it’s fought better when the culture believes it’s not only possible, but the best possible choice!
