We found a loose bearing on our Austin 7 Ruby crankshaft so we believe that this is what caused our engine knocking noise in the last video. If you have done it before changing the rear main crankshaft bearing on an Austin Seven Ruby is not too difficult but as this is our first attempt it has taken a while. We now need to reassemble the engine and hopefully get it started and driving again.
This Austin 7 has a 2 bearing crankshaft and crankcase so we only have the front and rear bearings to worry about. The rear main bearing is the one that is always rumbling away in the background in most Austin Sevens. Ours went to a very load rumble in a short space of time so that prompted this unexpected engine rebuild.
