I haven't read ALL of the comments but I can see that there's renewed interest in these lovely cars. From memory I BELIEVE the property housing these cars is in Bathurst somewhere, I remember visiting this property on a car club run back in (I THINK) 1984 sometime, I also LOVE to see them restored, however I don't believe it'll happen, sadly. Uncle bought the limo model in sydney in 80s. Had been in yard 20years under a tarp. Some fuel and a few jumper starts and 10 mins later was driving. Huge machines. Jacks in floor built in. Poor mans Roller. The ambulance body was massive. He had a matching pair of regoed Morris Oxford utes as well. Were Brambles truck red/ orange with black mudguards. Many a trip in those picking up parts and junk around Sydney.

I used to drive Austin Shearline Princess Hearse and Limousines back in the 1980s, big heavy and solid.

The story behind the 'Flying A' was from Leonard Lord the BMC Chairman who said if Bentley can have a 'B' on their bonnets 'we' will have an 'A' so all the Austin's of that era all had 'flying A's', he also told of one of the designers who changed the headlights to fit into the front mudguards, Leonard Lord looked at it & looked sturnly at the designer & said 'put those ****** headlight back to how they was, his competitors used to laugh at it saying it's got a lorry engine in it!

There's not much written about these and the Princesses, it's almost like they are overlooked and forgotten and not included much in Austin/BMC/BL books, there needs to be a dedicated book about them, I want the ambulance....somebody save and restore all of them quick!

Ricardo 'Dick' Burzi designed the Austin Sheerline, he was born in Argentina to an Italian father and Argentinian mother. He fled Italy to the UK because of drawing caricature's of Mussolini. During WW2 he was interned in a POW camp in the UK due to his Italian ties, Leonard Lord of Austin Motors managed to get him out to work designing for the war effort. ( He secretly designed the Sheerline in 1942) in a room isolated from anyone, as per agreement to his release . There isn't much online about the car. That's true ! About 1 in 100 Sheerline's built were long wheelbase models. Prince Phillip owned a Sheerline Saloon. There are interesting facts out there !
