I miss the old x division championship

Around this time, TNA was on fire! 2012 was an amazing year for this company! The storylines, the matches just felt different. Then after it just slowly went down

I think in this particular time-- limited rosters due to the pandemic of 2020-- the "Option C" idea would be a great idea for WWE to use and it could be used for the midcard titles (IC and US). Doing this, I think, would better move up great midcarders into the main event scene and give some proper notoriety to the midcard titles and its select group of wrestlers. Even better, at least in my thinking, is having them being "cashed in" the month before the Night of Champions PPV. It would really be a nice play on it's name and theme, kind of like how TNA has the cash-in set up strictly for Destination X.

The birth of option C

...so, what happens to the whole "Option C" deal now that Destination X isn't on the PPV calendar?

HH: "This isn't like the past where one man is going to hold two belts and be at whole bunch of places at the same time." *Fast forward to today and Austin Aries is the Impact Champ, Global Champ, X Division Champ, and champion at multiple indie feds since being released from WWE.*

i love that they found a way for him to drop the title while actually putting over the x division in the process. this makes the x division title even more important than before. great stuff.

This promo might just be the greatest promo that ever lived, it was simply GLORIOUS!...

So here's how I see it. The 4 pioneers. First came AJ Styles. He started the whole thing. He set the standard, and led by example. Then came Daniels. AJ Needed a rival, and he provided that rival, elevating the status of the belt, and for a long time having the honour of being longest reigning X Division Champion. Then came Joe, rewriting the book on what an X Division wrestler is, and taking the competition to further new heights...

This was and still a brilliant idea. WWE should come up with something similar with the cruiserweights.

I like the concept of option C I wish they would do something like that in wwe if you're the Intercontinental or United States champion have the option to surrender the belts to challenge for the wwe or Universal championship

3 months later, in my opinion Jeff Hardy is the best thing going on in TNA right now.

One of the best ideas in TNA and even recent wrestling, which could become an annual tradition, like Money in the Bank in WWE, is treated like garbage by the company... sad 😢

Austin Aries vs. Bobby Roode at Destination X should have been at a real venue, not the Impact Zone. Aries vs. Roode is something that can really sell and deserves to be witnessed by a lot more people than the Impact Zone can hold.

...And now comes Aries, first bringing respect back to the belt, and now taking the importance and prestige of the belt to a whole new level, not just as a belt for exciting young wrestlers to fight over, but now as a legitamate means of elevating young stars to main event status, and not by winning a one off multi-man match and winning a completely worthless match against a beaten down Champion to steal their belt, but by cutting their teeth with a title, then stepping up to the main event.

So they basically just made the X Division belt = the WWE's version of having the Money In The Bank briefcase...

What I don't like about the aftermath of Option C is the fact that it made it feel as if people only wanted the X Division title, to get to the World Title. It was like they didn't really CARE about the X Division. And sometimes, it would be like that, where you had an X Division champ who barely wrestled X Division style, but wanted to stay champ at least till Destination X to use Option C!

the X-Division championship has just become equivalent to the WCW's United States title. Back in the day, the US title was the #1 contender's belt. It was the title that meant that you were on the grasp of becoming "the man".

Agreed. For a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time ive been quite happy that Roode has held the belt long and is elevating it and treating it like its the most important thing there is. However, now I am torn, I REALLY think AA NEEDS to win for this to mean anything, but, I having Roode hold it longer IMO elevates it even more. So I hope they have some kinda insane 45 minute 5 star match and Aries gets screwed somehow, so we get more AA and Roode.

Exactly, and in my opinion this elevates the X-Division to a greater level.

WWE should do something like this. Trade in the Intercontinental/United States Championship for a shot at the WWE/Universal Championship.

This is one of the best things for TNA to do and Austin Aries is in my eyes the new face of TNA, like TNA was the face of wwe back in the day!

Kind of sad WWE has underutilized both Roode and Aries. They got Roode of to a good start wining the IC title and making us think he could be a main eventer, then did nothing with him. Aries had a good little feud with Nevel, then zero story-lines for him then fired him. Always thought they should have had Aries feud with and/or partner with Daniel Bryant over the World's Toughest Vegan title.

If I was ever going to buy a TNA PPV... It would be the upcoming Destination X PPV because this main event is going to be good... maybe the most truly legit main event in TNA history... and I never say anything good about TNA so good on them for booking this match!

i agree man. tna is putting out a really entertaining product and in my opinion has been the best wrestling show on tv for at least a year. what its going to take for them to grow their rating is for them to consistantly put on great shows and great ppvs and they've been doing just that. they have built some real momentum this year and built some stars and im really excited to see where they go in the future.

Aries' moves will be watered down if he joined WWE, but his charisma could be fully utilized. He could be used as the new Ric Flair imagine that.

Amazing how we get this awesome wrestling based story, and the last part of Impact was a crappy Cassie Lynch soap opera mic show. I will buy destination X to watch Austin vs Roode. Keep this legit title run going, and then fix the rest. We will have a GREAT show if this keeps getting better.

Your slightly right. ECW did start to make themself a bigger traveling schedule but Eric Bischoff admited that he would take ECW spots and put dark matches there because he had more money so thats when ECW would lose a major ratings becuase they would have to find another spot and spend more money. WCW aka Eric Bischoff underhanded ECW most of the time.

interesting idea but I hope it doesn't mean we're going to see non-x style guys like Sting going for the X division title before Destination X just for the world title shot. if its used to give a young up and coming wrestler a shot at that main event status like winning the Royal Rumble and MITB used to be then I'm all for it.

With this, if they feel someone is ready to hold the belt, they can, but if not, they have 2 options. If they feel no one is ready, they can have the X champ keep his belt. If the belt is presigious enough, this will be a respectable decision. If they are not sure if the X champ is ready, they can book them to lose the World Title match, but see how they handle main eventing a PPV, then go from there.

Popularity and talent are not the same thing, nor do they go hand in hand.

Also, if the plan is maintained, then the X-Division stars can start being the main event again.

I really do think that TNA is getting way better lately. I also think that Styles,mcmg,Samoa Joe and other of Jeff's friends were coddled and were never challenged. It's a good thing that they now are pushing people based on TALENT instead of potential. The next big superstar could be Robbie E, he just needs another year to work on his mic skills. Also i don't think that Hogan should really be in the ring and the Steiner rant may have affected the ratings. TNA originals step up or shut up.

It's a disgrace to job him out of the biggest stage of all in 18 sec. TNA will never do that 4 sure!
