Austin Butler Reveals He Almost QUIT ACTING After Mom Died (EXCLUSIVE)

Austin Butler may now be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, but a few years ago he thought about retiring. The 31-year-old actor exclusively told Access Hollywood special correspondent Jason Kennedy why he almost left the industry years ago after his mother passed away at the 2023 Oscars Nominees Luncheon on Feb. 13. The “Elvis” star also recalled his sweet encounter with Tom Cruise at the event and revealed who he may bring to the Academy Awards. The 2023 Oscars air March 12 on ABC.

@@crazy4corbinbleux what is your problem, do you think the release date has anything to do with MJ ? I think Austin did an amazing job, he did not disappoint and I have been part of the Elvis fan club since 1955 I have been to Graceland. My expectations were very high. Elvis popularity will never take away from MJ popularity, Both were amazing in their own way. Why does one have anything to do with the other? Seriously? .

@@crazy4corbinbleux first of all I don’t think the release date was intentional with the way you’re thinking. And secondly Austin was hospitalized for a week after getting done with filming Elvis, so he literally put blood sweat and tears into this film that does not take away how fantastic it is it actually adds to it. Also I’ve been a fan of both Michael, Jackson and Elvis since I was three. I am now 24. I had very high expectations. Going to this movie and it was phenomenal. I have seen it 10 times. That’s awesome that Michael‘s nephew is going to be playing him. Why do we have to compare that to honestly they were both great artists in their own right? And actually Elvis is still the number one solo recording artist in history.

I love Austin so much, but I didn't know him until I saw the movie Elvis. Now I feel like I knew him all my life and I love him like his mother or his sister. He has many good friends who are dear life time supporters. He became a major Hollywood contender, I can't thank him enough for making me and everybody very happy. I want to thank Tom Cruise too.

I’m so nervous that Brendan Fraser will win the Oscar over Austin 😭😭 Don’t get me wrong, I adore Brendan and am super happy for his comeback but Austin dedicated over 2 years of his life for this role and put his blood, sweat, and tears into such a sensational performance. Seems like a shy and humble guy with real emotional intelligence. I lost a parent at a young age and it's one of the hardest things a person can endure. I feel protective of people who have gone thorough similar tragic events and I wish this guy every success and a beautiful and fulfillling life. His mother would definitely be proud of him.

Watching this interview almost a year later, I still find it unfathomable that neither Austin or the movie Elvis earned any Oscars. It's a horrible, misguided shame and The Oscars just didn't get what everyone else did. It was magical and for a brief time, we had Elvis back on a stage. Remarkable.

Ik his mom wouldn't want him to stop acting she would want him to keep doing what he loves doing n makes him happy n achieve his goals. Listen to me very carefully don't ever stop acting or modeling just because u lost ur mom she didn't want u to be all sad for nothing she wanted u to live your dreams n achieve your goals n see wat your future goals are. You are meant to be in this world because u r the most extraordinary man people has ever seen n met n that will never change.
