"The 340 more than lives up to Volvo's reputation for high specification and luxury" *camera tilts up to cliff-face of blank panels where radio should be* I bloody love this video :D

It's a DAF designed in Holland, not Sweden as stated. Volvo bought DAF cars.

Love the actors and presenters trying to sound as if they know what they're talking about. The intro titles are hilarious - "we've just bought a Quantel graphics machine so make sure you use it in the programme..."

Best bit for me - 6-foot 'Colin' getting into the back of the Rover demonstrating the leg-space with the front seat pushed so fully forward that even Yoda in the front complain would...

This is before my time but I served 20 years as a sales person in the motor trade, these training aids are bollocks! Imagine trying to memorise every specification of ten different ranges and then another infinite different specifications within these ranges, Einstein wouldn't manage it!

Luxury in an Orion? I remember it as being extremely basic unless you got the Ghia version. As for the Volvo it is more Dutch engineering than Swedish.

We also had the Orion 1600E for a very short time in the late '80s. I can't remember if it had power steering or not, but it had leather and trip computer and everything else. It still had manual rear windows though.

Those Volvos were great cars- not the most exciting or dynamic but they were solidly built. Still see a 1988 one happily pottering locally in the south east of Ireland. Can’t rent when I last saw a rover 200 or Ford Orion

Everyone except the interviewers are actors; Peter Egan was a very well known actor on TV in the 80s/90s (playing the River representative).

The overall pomposity and fake posh accents make this whole thing laughable to modern eyes. It was probably laughable to salesmen then.

This is a very amusing over selling of the product to the sales staff ..The rather artificial enthusiasm doesnt help either . The Rover didnt save the devaluing of the brand ..it was supposed to mean fine driver experience or upmartket in rovers glory days ...Adding the name to perfectly decent but small family cars was a blunder amongst all the other mess ups
