Ex Micro Center employee here: when an open box item says "Incomplete: Open Box" thats the default option that we were supposed to put on everything that's open box. They are 95% of the time complete, but the cashiers don't have the time to look through and make sure every single manual, sticker, screw, pcie cover, etc, is in there. Thats why it's "incomplete"

Yeah we would rather not get sued or anger a customer calling it complete unless the cashier yellow tagging actually knows it’s complete. Either way it’s such a small percentage of items it’s always been easier for cashiers to just “ISAI” items. As a sales associate it was easy enough to explain too.😊

If I were to do this I'd go for a $40 tower cooler and run the 7700X in "eco mode", reviews have shown that it doesn't lose you any performance in gaming, and even in a torture multicore test barely loses you more than a couple percent. Also I'd have gone for a cheaper X670 motherboard. And then used that saved money for a 1TB SSD.
@Chaotic_H3LL
@Chaotic_H3LL Жыл бұрын
I mean yeah but you'd also actually use the system after its been built. For KZfaqrs, Austin in this case, he could just use a 120gb SSD for every build. It doesn't actively affect performance and is the cheapest way to go. For any builds that aren't being given away, the rigs will end up taken apart, put back in boxes and end up in storage until they need the parts again. So going for a cheaper cooler and motherboard and then maxmising storage, makes sense for you or me, it doesn't for Austin.
@sic22l
@sic22l Жыл бұрын
I'd just go for the 12600K with $140 B660M-A Pro DDR4 motherboard and get a better GPU. That would give themost performance especially at higher resolutions.

Great job Austin! As someone who has overspent on builds, i appreciate these videos as it shows that you dont need the biggest best version of everything to get an initial PC. My only tip is that i would have picked the ryzen 5, and used the extra money on a slightly better case. But its good, my brother on hia first PC, may not have had the bwst airflow, so to cool it he would take the glass panel off. In his words! "No case, no heating!" 🤣

Prices on 3000 series are so low that I was able to pick up a 3070 from the used market for $230. Well it was originally $330 but I sold my 1070 for $100 bucks so that brung the cost down to $230, then I put that money towards a 5600x PLUS I had a first time customer coupon for micro center so I went there and got $25 off the CPU so in total I paid around $380 for both an RTX 3070 and a 5600x …

A B660 is an intel, the B650 boards aren't even out yet. The R5 7600X is $100 less than the R7 7700X, which doesn't give that much more budget for anything really, maybe the SSD and case upgrade. Also 3080s are going for $700+, so idk where you're gonna get that extra $200+ from.

Question: Why did you go straight for an Nvidia GPU instead of trying to find an AMD equivalent? I would have thought you'd be able to find something even better than the 3070 at perhaps even a lower price?
@hardy3786
@hardy3786 Жыл бұрын
I'm not Austin lol, but my answer is the mindshare. Nvidia's mindshare is so strong it can gives you egregious pricing just because they can, even though AMD's cards are clearly cheaper and competitive. No one ever thought AMD is actually a viable option, just look at steam hardware survey. Unless AMD makes another miracle like they did with Ryzen, the mindshare will remain strong. What makes worse is these tech youtubers (especially the mid one, like Austin) will most likely pick Nvidia even though it's clearly expensive instead of "educate" their audience that there's also different option. Hence keeps perpetuate the mindshare.

@@extremelypuppy undervolting would be perfect then, for these new CPUs. 5% loss I’d rather have than 90-100 degree CPU, but that’s the norm now for 7000 series so I don’t know

@@sgt.greenbean4155 actually the reason it's operating at 95 Celsius is the IHS(Interal Heat Spreader) the IHS is significantly thicker on 7000 series, they did this to make older AM4 coolers compatible. The problem with that is that it traps way more heat inside the die, rather than be expelled into the cooler.

@@extremelypuppy I was going to mention that the ihs was thicker cause I heard that on Jay’s two cents channel, but I did not know that it was also for compatibility as well, that’s cool and not cool at the same time lol

I haven’t been in the Microcenter in STL since summer 2015 when the associate pretty much refused to sell me a laptop sized HDD for my PS4 & told me just to buy an external USB HDD, 18 months before Sony enabled that option in firmware 4.5 in Feb. 2017.

I miss our Microcenter. It closed in 2020 and the closest one to us is now 137 miles away.

Doesn’t look like they had a huge amount of CPUs. They didn’t grab your one from the 4 that were in the cabinet. So they must have had more somewhere in the storage area. And only AM4 coolers WITHOUT a backplate are compatible, because you can’t remove the standard AM5 backplate! Coolers have to use the standard backplate. This wasn’t a first POST you showed on camera, the first POST with DDR5 can take minutes.

Yeah, most of the time the processors are on the shelf to be seen that we have them and then stock is pulled from the back when people order them. It makes it easier to not have to restock the front area as much. They do the same thing with GPU'S

My first ever PC build was in that Montech case 🤣 $36 on Amazon. Fake RGB fans. But it was white and had a power supply basement, that’s all I cared about
