Probably not a big deal for some but I've noticed the soundtrack to be inconsistent in its music choice. There are many times in Definitive Edition where the arrangement of a song will play, even if the soundtrack is set to the original and vice versa. SPOILERS AHEAD Examples include: no music when Xord kidnaps Juju, the arrangement of Engage the Enemy will always play when contronting Xord at the Ether Mines and the original An Obstacle in Our Path will always play when Egil pulls the sword out of the Bionis. I'd chalk this up to a bug, but it could be deliberate too. Kinda bugs me a bit, since I'm not the biggest fan of some arrangements. Probably not a dealbreaker for most, I just wish the soundtrack played as intended.

I learnt this from the XC2 artbook, and so I have to wonder what went wrong with the DE. Shulk, Reyn and Sharla look great but everyone else in the playable cast has pretty generic or downright silly looking faces. Dickson in particular doesn't even look higher quality, as he already looked pretty good; the only difference is that the colours and jawline look way off. Dunban's new look doesn't suit him at all. The smug grin and intense eyes from the prologue are gone. Everyone just looks less expressive and believable, and has the bloody same nose. The original models were of poor quality but they looked like people with stand-out and convincing features. On the subject of the soundtrack, what were they thinking? If you're gonna make the sound quality better, at least go as far as to make it good. All the tracks still sound very compressed and this doesn't suit the big arranged sound at all. You Will Know our Names has been robbed of its intensity, but oh look! More instruments! And those ear-piercing new vocals on Engage the Enemy are painful. (To top it all off, An Obstacle in Our Path is in the wrong key altogether and it's very offputting.) This might sound like a silly complaint because you can just set it to the original, but I just worry new players aren't getting the full experience. I love the Definitive Edition overall for other reasons, and I'm not here to say "YOUR XENOBLADE IS SHIT, FAKE FAN"; I just want everyone else to fall in love with this game the way I did, and I worry the DE robs it of some amount of charm for the sake of the illusion of polish.

@@ChrisStoneinator I played the original on the Wii all the way through, and I will say that I disagree with you on pretty much every point on the character designs and new soundtrack of DE.

He looks great, he still has the smug grin and intense eyes and everyone else is either really expressive or just as expressive as the original (more leaning towards the former), i dont undrstand your points at all The old look being more expressive doesnt really hold much weight the models were, as you said, poor quality, so they werent that great at expressive, im guessing you are just looking back through rose tinted glasses

Agreed, hell just the fact that I don't have that large Wii U screen in my hands (I didn't play it on the Wii) is a huge QOL improvement. Hope they port over The Last Story at some point too.

@@Coolio_Ash New 3DS was the only version with the Model Viewer and Jukebox.

You have a model viewers just for the main party but I feel like DE did include something like that in one of the menu sections for other characters.

Hopefully they'll update the game to where they include those features! Then it would be the perfect version!!

Much like the 3DS port of MGS3 lol, especially since that one can somehow run on Old3DS models too. These games were never intended to run on hardware like that but somehow the programmers made it work.

Does the 3ds Version Loads as fast as the switch? Because fast travel is literally a blink of an eye.

Yeah, but it spoils the first big twist considering one character only has like 5 outfits unlike everyone else. They should've just shown available fashion armor as it was unlocked, otherwise you know from the second you check out those screens that one of those characters will not be sticking it out for the majority of the game

I am sooooo glad they added that, I remember actually going for somewhat worse armor at times on the 3ds version simply because it looked better.

@@MK-bi1hj Maybe, the menus do kinda draw attention to the fashion screen even early on with notifications when you get new stuff, so, at the very least, it might hint to people that the member is only gonna be temporary, considering how many open slots the other characters have. Idk, just stood out to me

It's not super effective on the XL, but, if you play on the smaller version of the New 3DS, the effect is far more prominent. The smaller 3DSes all have a much stronger sense of depth compared to the XLs for some reason. If you're a big 3DS fan, like me, then I highly recommend saving up for one of those New 3DS versions. The improved sharpness provided by the smaller screen can also be really nice and pairs well with the 3D effect (it's like going from standard definition 3D to HD3D, even though it's technically an SD resolution)

That was actually how I first experienced the game after watching Chuggaaconroy let's play the game. It has since become one of my favorite games of all time

One thing I noticed is that the story navigation is helpful because one thing it also does is that it displays the exclamation marks on the maps for monsters that drop side quest materials

I’m super glad they have separate toggles for music on fields and in battles. The field music tracks were pretty much all improved upon, but the new battle tracks, especially Mechanical Rhythm and You Will Know Our Names, just weren’t nearly as impactful as the originals to me.

@@loveshiningstar Actually, I kinda like them both about the same. The DE version has a lot of small improvements over the original in the background of the track, but the original’s guitar solo is just wayyyyy better. So idk. I think I’d give a slight edge to the original, personally.

I think it's pretty sad that people are so rose tinted and afraid of being called weebs that they think the original looks better than DE. It's undeniable the areas look way better and the menus do too. While I personally do understand the dislike of anime style, as I thought 2 sucked in terms of art, I think de looks a bit more cool than 2 and a bit less tropey. Also the designs are less blatantly horny and annoying

Do people really still shame people who like things from Japan as "weebs"? I thought we'd long ago moved past that kind of bullying since nerdom has kind of taken over most facets of pop culture. XC1 definitely had an anime-esque art style. If I were to compare X1 and X2, it'd be the difference in quality between "Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood" and "One-Piece". Of course, quality is subjective, as OP is extremely popular. It's just not an art style I care for. Still haven't played 2 because of its asthetic and the tacky sexualized character designs. "Xeno", as a series, is strong enough to stand on its own two legs without resorting to cheap fan service and generic art work.

@@fluffy9071 it's not that we dislike the anime artstyle. it's that Xenoblade Chronicles artstyle in the wii and 3ds version is actually really nice, and we didn't like that they changed it. that's my reasoning for not liking what definitive edition did, they altered the artstyle of the game when it wasn't needed, and while the game GRAPHICALLY looks nicer on Switch, I don't like that it required sacrificing a part of the game that many were accustomed to and wished had gotten the HD console treatment. and I do prefer the artstyle present in Xenoblade chronicles 1 on the wii and 3ds I honestly don't know why they didn't return to it in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

@@WednesdayMan characters models in the original looked fugley, aesticly speaking the new artstyle is better to look at, do i think the old is bad no, but the upgrade to me is like looking at low poly ff7 to remake or better example dmc3 to 4 and 5, 3s designs are not bad but clearly a graphical problem that they had to make due with but when the new consoles came out they had the power to make it look better, art style is different the character design as xenoblade chronicles and and xenoblade chronices 2 have the same artstyle but not the same character design philosophy kinda like dragon quest and dragon ball, same art style not character direction is very different Id say 3d models should lool better as graphics get better but if something is sprite animation then there isnt actually anything wrong as its part of the style like the pokemon series

My opinion is probably irrelevant but the graphics didn’t stop me from enjoying the game. I played the game on the 3ds and the graphics looked amazing to me yea I know they are not great now a days but back then I didn’t own much consoles or handhelds so seeing this game made me realize the beauty of gaming and has introduced me to gaming.(this is probably funny to some of you since the 3ds version looked great to me)

I feel this. Wish I had changed the soundtrack back to the original early on. I liked a few of the remade tracks, but some of the cutscene tracks just have not left the same impact as the originals did for me. I wanted to give the new soundtrack a fair shake, but I honestly lost motivation to continue just because it didn't connect with me the way the original did. Which sounds weird, but it's like that uncanny valley of similarity where it just feels off enough to totally take me out of it. Also, I hate the changes they made to the gem menu system, so that made me pick back up my Wii U, lol

Unfortunately for me I think I paid $60 for it on my Wii U on the eShop when I got it a couple years ago.

Do to QoL, Sidequest clearing is a hell of alot faster than ever. I compared my 3ds playtime to my Switch playtime (2 more hours on Switch) and I hav cleared over twice as much sides on Switch. Fuckin hell lol

This is correct and an error on my part. What I should've purely mentioned was FPS and not resolution. The game is 25 fps on PAL and that's the only important difference

half of Monolith's XC2 team were Thanos snapped for BoTW, yet they were also told to still release the game within 2017. Hence why so many updates for the game came post-release, since Nintendo sorta fucked them over.

I'm curious, what part of it is helping you out? Is it the duration bars on the break/topple/daze or the chance arts thing, or do you just find the menus easier to understand?

Chris Stone It’s the exclamation that shows on top of which art to use to topple the enemies. If I just tapped any art, I won’t be able to take them down properly and the battle will be longer. I had trouble fighting the face enemy that killed the girl and the battle never ended.

@@Litlrox I can definitely see the combat being easier to get into now. I just wondered because of the phrasing; battles against "stronger enemies" are mostly won in the setup screens which didn't really improve. Glad you enjoyed the game dude! Make sure to seek out the Quiet Moments in Future Connected, they're well worth your time

Agree the "new" art style from this definiteve edition looks too childish and generic, is obvious that nintendo just copy paste the style from XC2, it's ok on that game but with the first one.... I keep playing the emualtor with the texture pack.
