I know that it is a easy answer, but think about it. first it was management so they change it, then it was coaching so they changed it, than its no key players, so they changed it. and so on and so on. First of all, we can not overstate how much the shift from Samsonov to Woll changed the complexion of the series. Samsonov was simply not stopping enough pucks late in the season and into the first games of the series. There may be a small element of truth to your argument somewhere, you just haven't quite got it right. Matthews does not play 'for himself'. He's a strong player that uses his talent to drive strong 2-way play and he is for sure missed. However, there's an element of passenger syndrome with the Leafs where much of the rest of the team plays with a slightly entitled attitude that they get away with during the regular season that doesn't cut it in the playoffs. Every player has to give 100% of what they've got on practically every shift to win series in the playoffs.
