La Nina
La Nina is a climate phenomenon, the sister of El Nino. Where El Nino left drought, La Nina causes floods, massive cyclones and endless rain. This is the story of Australia's unique creatures and how they cope with this catastrophe.
Australia has the most extreme climate variations of any continent on earth.
Storms from Antarctica and the Southern Ocean batter the southern shorelines; monsoons from Asia roll in across the north west, and from the Pacific come both the tropical cyclones of La Niña and the severe El Niños which bring extreme drought and fire to otherwise temperate zones.
This four-part series shows that, for all its famed isolation, Australia is in fact intimately connected with the continents around it by the climate phenomena they share.
Using powerful never-before-seen cinematography, satellite images and state-of-the-art computer graphics, each programme traces the development of one extreme climatic force and explains how Australia's extraordinary animals and plants have adapted to survive the eye of the storm.

Here in the Southwest of America, La Nina [cooler water temperatures in the Pacific] corresponds to cooler years with less precipitation. El Nino [Warmer water temperatures in the Pacific] corresponds to warmer years with more precipitation.

wow, amazing how mother nature works. but its so sad to see how we as a society by changing the climate in what is supposed to be 300,000 years, we are changing it in only 100 years.

Nature changes on it's own. Trying to keep the Earth static in a climate from one point in time is antithetical to the history of the planet. Climate change is natural.

How do these filmmakers live with themselves when they leave animals trapped and dying like the green turtles they could have flipped over and saved? And goats stuck in the mud in the "El Nino" episode? :(

@@mollymuch2808 overdramatised. Even the east coast of Australia where it’s all green is bigger than most European countries, Tasmania is super green and lush and almost as big as the UK. The green fertile east coast would still stretch from Mexico to Canada if placed vertically over the USA. My point is, there’s plenty of farmland in Australia, farming is one of our biggest exports.

Seriously? I know the camera people aren't allowed to mess w nature, but these are unusual circumstances, no reason not to help them turtles off their backs instead of watching them die, just for a good dramatic shot. You must really really really hate your job and nature
