In the latest development of a case that has grabbed headlines around the world, the woman at the centre of it all, Erin Patterson, has sought to clear her name, after a family lunch turned deadly in a sleepy Aussie town last month. Within hours of the meal four guests had fallen ill, with three of them now dead, and one fighting for their life. It turns out the dish cooked up contained a highly toxic mushroom, and with Erin living to tell the tale, police officially named her as a suspect last week. David Wilson is here to tell us what we know and what we could expect next from this ongoing story.

Quick question. Why would you dehydrate the dry mushrooms. Isnt that dehydrator is to suck out all water from fresh fruits or vegetables? And the kids ate the same left over meals without the mushrooms. Wouldn’t that meal still have mushrooms spores or sauce mixed with the meal?

My own opinion, there are too many loopholes in her statement: 1) she could identify where she got the button mushroom but she can't identify which asian grocer she bought the deadcap mushroom..lol. 2) she's an expert mushroom forager, but cannot identify dead-cap mushroom. 3) she admitted to police she lied that she threw the dehydrator long time ago AFTER police had found the dehydrator. 4) she said she panicked after her husband said 'you killed my parents with the dehydrator' and then she discarded the dehydrator. if someone alleged you of doing something and you panicked, most likely that statement is true, else you will be laughing your ars-off. 5) she was admitted to hospital 2 days after the lunch. deadcap mushroom react within 6 to 12 hours. obviously she was trying to get public pity by eating some of the mushroom to feign sick. 6) she said she scrapped off the mushroom before serving it to her children. but traces of the deadly mushroom is enough to kill any kids.

She has changed her story many times. She also said she did not eat the meal and said her kids and her ate a different meal for lunch, then she said the kids were at the pictures and not at the lunch. These mushrooms are so toxic that scraping them off a Beef Wellington wouldn't be enough to stop a child from being poisoned in my humble opinion. She is also, according to the locals, a skilled mushroom forager. She lied about where she got the mushrooms; first they were from a local supermarket then from an Asian shop in Melbourne though she couldn't remember the name of the shop. Needless to say, death cap mushrooms are not for sale anywhere in Australia. Also, had she got them from either of these places why didn't other people get sick and die? All this has come from the police and not just armchair sleuths. BTW, her estranged husband was invited to lunch, but he pulled out at the last minute. The year prior, he had been put in an induced coma because he became ill from a mysterious illness after visiting his ex. Of course, they weren't looking for death cap toxicity at the time, so the pathologist didn't find it in his blood. The estranged husband has also claimed that he would always feel unwell after visiting Erin. I think the eminent professor isn't abreast of the situation as much as he likes to think, unlike people living in Australia. The dehydrator was the clincher.

Typical so called 'expert' missing out the most crucial part of the case. The ex husband is still recovering from a mystery stomach illness, which put him in intensive care last year, when he waa still living with her. He believes she poisoned him. Also, the 'expert' is wrong about her knowing he wouldn't be at the meal. He cancelled last minute, so she didn't know he would not be there in advance of her cooking the meal. Finally, he was wrong again about the food dehydrator. The police DO have it and confronted he after they found it. They were tipped off about it.

This woman is an expert at foraging for mushrooms, she knows what the death cap looks like. If she dehydrated those mushrooms, she wouldn’t need to buy dried mushrooms from an Asian store 2hrs drive away! And 3 months ago! And now she conveniently can’t remember where the Asian store is that she purchased the dried mushrooms. Also Beef Wellington doesn’t even have exotic dried mushrooms in any recipe Ive ever seen. You only need button mushrooms to make that dish. Also I come from a farm in Australia and EVERYONE who grows up in Australia is taught not to EVER touch wild grown mushrooms because we know how dangerous they can be, so feeding them to other people for lunch is taking a massive unacceptable risk. These poisonings were deliberate, and I would say the husband is meant to be dead too, and her kids inherit all the husbands family money. My guess on motive. Also I think she cooked a poisonous beef Wellington and a good one for her and her kids.

A much better alibi would have been to state that she foraged the mushrooms thinking they were edible and it was a terrible accident. Then the courts would have to prove that she tried to murder them which I imagine would be quite hard unless there was a very clear motive. She could have just moved away and in the fullness of time , they would just die naturally and everyone wins , Some people do mad things when they get divorced, My ex mother in law sat scowling in her wheel chair for years until the hearse came , her now 97 year old husband is still shouting blue murder from his bed with nobody listening. No Mushrooms were involved.

It's common practice to dehydrate mushrooms. Most foragers will have one. You dehydrate the mushrooms store them an airproof container and use them over the course of a year. Why she would hid the fact she had one is a mystery to me. As always with mushrooms if you think you know what it is don't eat it. You have to be certain.

Make ye wonder if it's all been a plot of some kind to get rid of his parents and his aunty and her husband wonder if it's for insurance claims .🤔 I wonder whether her ex- husband might of known about it all ...thats why she's saying her ex-husband pulled out of the meal at the last minute or the day before so why did she carry on with the meal knowing her ex husband wasn't going to be there she could of canceled it ...makes one wonder if it was planned🤔 ..bet her ex husband is involved in it too ..something dodgy and more to this mushroom poisoning incident than meets the eye .....maybe im overthinking .. but I'm only speculating tho and this is just my opinion only .

I was wondering if anyone else thought she may have been set up by her ex husband, he certainly had the opportunity, he was at her house regularly, did she tell him what she intended cooking, and he was supposed to be there but canceled at the last minute, I just don’t understand her motive, she’s well off and she wanted her husband back, he did not want her and what is his financial status, I’m guessing he would inherit from his parents and if this woman gets put away for murder he gets the kids, he also told the police he got sick after having a meal with her about a year ago but it is my understanding there was no definite cause of his illness, and this type of murder usually involves a motive,I just don’t see one for her, she wanted them to like her and possibly help her get back with her husband. I’d love to know if the police are looking at other possibilities.

If I were to poison in this way, I would make a Beef Wellington, cut in half. One half with edible mushrooms and the other half poisonous. I would cover each open end with tin foil and bake on separate trays. I would serve the toxic slices to my target guests and get rid of the rest. I would serve myself the joining end slice of the non-toxic half and give my children slices from the same, but with mushrooms removed (as they dislike them). When providing a sample for the Police, it would clearly come from this half of the Beef Wellington also. Very simple!

All the good murder mystery books, dramas, plays invariably when it's poisoning it's a woman's choice of weapon. Interestingly she's saying sshe spent a night in hospital because of eating the mushrooms so chances are she gave herself just enough to make her ill. Does seem to be all fingers pointing her direction

She wasnt admitted in to hospital, which is telling. She went to hopsital with diarraoeh that she could have given herself with magnesium or laxatives. I think she is a psychopath. She says she cannot recall which shop she bought them at. Wouldnt a normal person try hard to tam3 police to the righr place to try to save other people? Or at least clear herself? She is clearly a murderous nut.

If she's an experienced forager, she'd know that there's no part of death cap that's safe to eat, even in tiny quantities. Far too risky. Apparently as a family they often forage. What if the kids either deliberately or inadvertently contaminated the food?

What is her motive? Anyone with half a brain would think they would be under investigation after people dying after she served a meal. Do people really think they will get away with crimes? The dump where she threw the dehydrator had cameras and so do most stores, markets, etc. I believe it’s difficult to get away with it for her. BUT if it was an accident the cops will have to try to find out.

She is separated from her husband Simon and they are working out the custody details of their children. But now that Simon's parents are dead, Simon will receive an inheritance and if he and Erin divorce, she might make a claim on what he inherited from his parents............
