charming ?everyone said the opposite, rude, insolent , and spoke her mind, called Mauresmo a man before this , honest though, but not charming.

What a horrendous first set by Mauresmo. She played much better in the second, but even in the 2nd, so many unforced errors or easy volleys missed. You could see that if she was more confident, things might have been different in this match. It would take her a while, but once she finally became confident in these big matches in 2006, she became a great champion. She had the potential to win more than she did.

And concerning the gaff by Davenport who mentioned that Mauresmo had big strong shoulders and played like a man, yes how the media loves to make yellow journalism ! That Amelie didn't play a typical 'girly' style of tennis, and had based her game on top male tennis players is a tribute to her and why she had the career that she did. Her shoulders weren't that big. If you put Serena Williams next to her, you would see how muscular Serena is - she was built like a solid male football player and that is called genetics and it's why she was beating so many of the other female players - she was much, much stronger physically. And then Patrick M came around and taught her all the things her father wasn't able to teach her...

You had to drag Serena into this huh ?? Amelie can’t survive half of what Serena had to go through.
@terancetheindomitable97013 ай бұрын
First you said Davenport made a gaff for what she said, then you accuse the media of yellow journalism. So who's fault is it, Davenport or the media? Mauresmo's shoulders were absolutely bigger than Serena's were back in 1999. The players that had to face her know more than you do. If they said she hit like a man, she hit like a man! She also had a male-sounding voice. Nothing wrong with that. It is what it is

I could never stand that permanent smirk on Hingis' face. Like "i'm so much better than you." She got put in her place alot after that 1999 AO victory.

I just love Mauresmo. It is just a shame that homophobic slams existed. Davenport I think felt bad for what she said. And her words were poorly chosen but Davenport never meant to make fun of Amile back then. So glad Amile won the AO in 2006 against a bitter losing Henin but got revenge on her again at Wimbledon that year. Two great Hall of Famers. This was a great time for wonen’s tennis with the William sisters and Hingis arriving and seeing veterans like Novotna win Wimbledon with Seles and Graf and ASV still around. Plus we had a peak Pierce winning the French the following year as well
