The Austrian Feldchuh Leicht, Feild Shoe Light, Austrian Combat boot, Austrian Paratrooper Boot, The meme Boot.
What ever you call the Austrian military combat boot doesn’t matter.
One thing for certain is, this boot is probably the greatest all around, versatile, durable , fashionable and affordable boots ever made.
It is also one of the most elusive, unknown and underrated boots out there.
After months of searching and research I finally found my ultimate boot.
I created this vlog as sort of a guide to the Austrian Field Shoe Light.
How to find it, where to find it, design, aesthetics, fit , function etc.
These are the Greatest Military Boot Ever!
I spent six months looking for this exact boot and finally found it hopefully this guide helps anyone else going down this rabbit hole.

What do you mean “hard to find”? I can find them everywhere - here in Austria 😉 On a more serious note, you are right, they are indeed great equipment! You can walk with them long long distances (which, of course, in the Austrian military, they do…), you can run in them for a few kilometers/miles, you can use them for work as you mentioned (mind that they have no safety features like a steel toe and metal mesh in the sole, they are _no_ safety boots!), and if you shine them properly, well, no too big a problem wearing them to a suit. 7:45 - this mark “Heereseigentum” is important, it means “property of the [Austrian] army”, and you will find this on boots actually issued by/intended for this organisation or the respective surplus. You might not find these on resoled boots, of course. 8:01 - “theoretically, you could have these resoled many many times”? What do you mean “theoretically”??? _This is done,_ and you might even find pieces in some army shops that are decades old. And still do what they are supposed to do. Btw, Steinkogler is (as far as I know) the company that actually supplies the Austrian military. 16:22 - super heavy??? I can only laugh at this. Ever worn a “schweren Feldschuh” (“heavy field shoe”)? 😉 But yeah, even the “Feldschuh leicht” is absolutely not flimsy, mind these are made for war, they _have to be_ heavy duty. Also, the socks typically worn with these are called “Bundesheersocken”, wear these in combination with those boots (as it is done in the Austrian military), and you will not have problems with sweaty feet or something if you change socks once every 24 hours. I do not think “original Bundesheersocken” are shipped abroad. The lacing can be something you have to figure out, but once you do and you have the perfect way to lace your boots, they quickly become like a second skin. On a side note: 11:46 - aaaw!, how cute 😃

Thank you for your detailed response, I am guessing you spent a lot of time marching and training in these boots. I actually wore mine with a suite and really liked the way it looked! These are still the best and most versatile pair of boots I’ve ever owned! Would love to get my hands on the socks to match!

@@KRTLyfe - I'll put this on my reminder-list and might contact you in a few weeks. Because those socks are in a league of their own, a perfect combination of wool (from sheep) with synthetic fibers, machine-washable, and the toe-parts are sown by hand to make them basically seamless there. I'll contact you in a few weeks.

@@KRTLyfeI opened the box and noticed I actually ordered the COMBAT boots in lieu of the lightweight boots. After breaking em in over the last few weeks though, they're by far the sturdiest and most comfortable boots I've ever owned. I was initially worried they'd be too hot (been a pretty brutal summer here in Chicago) but my feet sweat less in these than they did in my Docs, even when blousing them/tucking my pants into them. I'm keeping an eye out for the lightweight ones to polish and wear as dress boots, though.

Great video, man! I've had a pair of the surplus boots going on 5 years now, and yeas they definitely can be resoled. Had a vibram sole put on for about 60 bucks, and they're still a perfectly functional, comfy, and sturdy piece of footwear. And I jumped on the Kommandostore preorder the moment I saw that they were going to get new production boots. Sucks a bit to have to wait to later in the year, but it will be worth it to have a brand new pair without the hassle of going through European markets. Glad you're loving them!

@KRTLyfe right on man! I will say if you do end up getting jungle boots, keep two things in mind. First avoid the super cheap 30-50 dollar repro boots (Rothco, Fox Outdoors, etc.) They are pretty notorious for low quality and falling apart. Altama and McRae, make good repros for under 200 that are US made. Original surplus boots are great too if they're in good shape. The next big thing is they run kinda big, at least in length. You may have to go down a half size or a full size compared to the Austrian boots for a similar fit.

bro i went throught the exact same journey and ended with the austrian feldschuh. I also bought desinger boots for 1k+ from Ann Demeulmeester and bought leathershoes and brought them to a shoemaker to let them modify them with a thicker sole and such.... it was exhausting and i did spent/waisted so much money. also i have very wide feed and dr martens for example are way too narrow (besides that its a shitty shoe and everyone wears them in europe) - and then after years i randomly was passing a guy and he was rocking them and I bought them from an austrian military shop and did let them widen a little bit and they are the best shoes ever now! - its so funny that you just cannot find anything in the internet about similar shoes like that. it felt i was the only one who wanted shoes with this look, also most of the similar looking shoes have this "duck like" toes where the toe area goes up and the sole is not flat... really happy for you, all the best!

I have the heavyweight version of this boot made by Steinkogler. It's probably the toughest, heaviest boot I'll ever own at 1.2kg per boot. It's not as sleek and fashionable as the lightweight version, and it's slower to move around in it, but they are my favorite pair of boots

@@KRTLyfe - Don't do it! If you buy them new, you will have to basically soak the leather in special fat for a few days to make them not feel like a concrete pipe on your feet, the soles bend so little that walking in them on hard surfaces is uncomfortable (which is no surprise, since they are designed to traverse most difficult natural terrain and _not_ for walking on paved streets), those things are also heavy, _well_ over a kilo of weight each (1.2, to be exact, 2 pounds 10 ounces) - without fat in the leather and dirt stuck to the soles, that is, _with_ all of this those can get quite a bit worse in that regard,… Don't do it. Just don't do it. Heavy Austrian field boots are very specific tools for a very specific job, and in fact, I have to wear orthopedic inlays for the rest of my life because wearing them for too many years when I was younger ruined my feet. The “Feldschuh schwer” is not intended for a daily walker, and should not be used as such. If you do not need boots for the very specific purpose they were made for, then just stay clear of them. Or would you use a 50 ton excavator for your daily commute?

@mediocreman6323 they're not THAT bad......I have the "clod hoppers" made by Innsbruck and as long as you know your size (width is just as important as length) these are incredibly comfortable and definitely more comfortable than most PNW work boots😂

@highfructosedreams 4 ай бұрын
@@richardcostello360 Agreed, all of the negatives he listed can be applied to Nicks boots and other pnw boots. I never owned one of those, but it's probably comparable to this from the looks of them. The only downside of wearing these boots is the weight, so it's more tiring to walk longer distances and climb stairs. And jumping and running are out of the question with these

Every boot has to be walked in, and after a while, the leather will adapt to your foot. And although this has limits, a leather boot will change to fit your foot to an extent. I have friends with … let's say, leg-ends that would make every duck envious, and they could wear those. To be fair, you just might have to try a few pairs, but outside Austria or its military this might not be possible for you.
