@@jackbollingmoore7554 For Test, ODI and T20 matches (includes the BBL & WBBL) held in Australia, CA (Cricket Australia) issues the rights to the broadcaster/s as they so choose. The right to broadcast overseas series is handled by the host country or countries, most of it goes to FOX Sports but The Ashes has to be on FTA (Free To Air) because of the ACMA major event laws. At the moment, CH 9 holds the right, The World Cups (ODI and T20) are handled by the ICC and comes under the same major events law as The Ashes. The ICC handled the rights. BTW, The feed is provided by the host broadcaster i.e. Sky Sports for England, Star Sports for ICC and more.

End of an era. April 2018 marks the end of channel 9's association with cricket broadcasting in Australia. Thanks for 40 years of memories and amazing moments. We'll never forget all the innovations channel nine have given us including weatherwall, stumpcam and classic catches.

Same. Nine did a fantastic job with covering the summer of cricket for more than 4 decades and many Australians were able to watch every ball of every match live and free.

That one piece of bill lawry gold from the 1993 ashes stood the test of time and features in the intros from 1996. Spine tingling piece of commentary. (Hughes bowled gatting on the last ball of the day during one of the tests)

That 1989 version is just awesome. As a kid of the 80s I didn't find cricket that fun to watch, but man that intro was fantastic. Even seeing it today (in 2022) it's great.

Same. When Nine lost the Cricket, cricket went downhill in Australia. After years of watching cricket, it just not the same. Nine did a great job and they showed every ball live.

Love it! Brings back memories of watching cricket in childhood and during teens! :) Those late 90s and early 2000s starting themes really psyched me up for the game.

Copeland's 'FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN' (1942) will be forever loved by Australians, as they remember it as being the "Theme' of many Summers of Cricket. It was a stroke of genius for Channel 9 to use this piece of music to 'herald' the Days' play. Before 10.00a.m. of a morning we needed to have all chores done, the kettle would be on for Mum, a cold drink would be in the refridge for dad, and everyone would be settled in the living room, ready for a day spent watching Australian greats excel.

It was Channel 7 that used the ELP version of Fanfare for the Common Man on its sports broadcats, not 9. The 9 theme is known as New Horizons, written in 1974 by Brian Bennett who was the drummer for the Shadows. Originally, it was the theme for a short--lived cop show called Bluey, and Packer liked it so much he had them use it for WSC telecasts. After WSC, 9 used it on their coverage of official cricket.

That was the first picture of cricket in my life, before that I didn't know what cricket was. The music was the unofficial anthem of the game.

They occasionally showed Channel 9 stuff in England - usually if a match was held up by rain. I remember those first opening titles and the theme tune from BBC coverage in the early 80s

97 was when i really started to get into cricket and the intro from that time brings back memories and gives me goosebumps every time. I was always soo excited to get up early in the morning to watch the Ashes or just any test cricket that Australia was playing.

1982/83 is the best for me. It plays twice. Along with 1986/87 and 2010/11 because they’re the only times we’ve won in Australia in my lifetime.

2003 version is nice from a design aesthetic POV. Won a few awards if I remember. The 82 was is cheesy but good with what technology was available. Chappells shit eating grin made my arteries clog up lol.

Great the brought back the 06/07 opener this summer. Always been the best one by a long way. Like the 82/83 one too. It's a bit shit but in a cool, retro way. The 13/14 was good but it omitted bowled him, the last ball can you believe that. Unforgivable.

I appreciate the Aussies must be attached to the ‘murder mystery’ sounding theme tune as much as us poms are to soul limbo. Interesting that in the 90s the Union Jack was used for England rather than St George flag. Still, it must be difficult living upside down and having a heatwave when it should be snowing.

What is Channel 7 coverage like? I left Australia years ago haven't seen the cricket since about 2009 it must seem strange now long summers but no cricket on 9. This video brings back memories of watching Lillee steam in with the yobs in the outer singing his name great days long ago...

Not as good as Channel 9's. The HD coverage of the Cricket itself is good, but it doesn't have the same feel. On 9, Ian Healy was filmed doing a skit with The Richies at the SCG, there's none of that anymore.

Looks like the end of an era for Channel 9. Wont be hearing this theme anymore as it looks like Foxtel have the got the rights for next 6 years. Although they will have to broadcast with FTA with either 7 or 10.

Its stupid that Channel 9 decided (for whatever reason) not to continue to acquire the cricket rights going forward (or not to pay whatever money the rights holders actually wanted) and went for the (far crappier) tennis instead giving 7 the cricket.

not sure I think Kerry would probably be saying well played to News Corp and Kerry Stokes. remember it was Kerry Packer that with Rupert and News Corp took the Aussie rules footy away from Kerry Stokes and Seven after 45 years. its all fair in business. remember when then ACB wouldn't sell the rights to Kerry Packer and Nine and they stuck with ABC. besides Nine Network didn't want it anymore. their financiers told them to get more without extra cost or dump it and dump it they did. they have the Tennis now anyway breaking Seven's 40 plus stranglehold they barely held on last time when Network Ten put in a 500 million dollar bid.

I never watched the fox cricket. Men’s Odis and t20s were exclusive to pay tv and I was bitterly disappointed. I haven’t got access to watching the cricket on Pay tv. Instead I watched the tests on 7.

The current one is fantastic IMO and you're probably the first person I've seen to dislike it. But I do think they should bring back the 1996-2005 theme for ODI's or T20I's.

Dont think i'm the first person to dislike it. Many out there that dont like that. The 96-2005 theme had Bill Lawry's voice of got him which was so unique of 9's coverage. If they are to get the rights from next year, I think their opening titles need a makeover.
