Filipino food is the shit! Savoury and flavourful, just plain delicious!
My friend John takes us back to his childhood as we try out a Filipino Restaurant called Jovy's Grill in Seoul to see if it's LEGIT and it does not disappoint!
If you're in the Seoul area and you have a hankering for some Island food, definitely try this place out!

The reason why you won't find that distinct inihaw na liempo taste elsewhere is bec of the smoke flavor of the charcoal we use in the Philippines.

When visiting Philippines. You could try rarest and tasty cuisines 1) Relyenong Bangus/ Stuffed milkfish - in Philippines its common but in other asian countries its difficult to find because it difficult to prepare deboning of fish is the most challenging part but its really tasty. Raisins and green peas and shredded carrots compliments its ground fish meat. Could be eaten with ketchup also as dip 2) Putobumbong - its a purple rice cake usually being eaten at night after church masses. Usually common when Christmas is near. Around November to January its being sold. Best experience if you have hot beverage like cacao, chocolate, tea or coffee. 3) Lechon - can be pork or chicken. Both are good 4) Bagnet - crispier version of liempo, Ilocos province is best at it. You could try longganisang vigan also if so happen visited Ilocos. 5) Pancit Chami - A noodle made of miki noodles. It has veggies, pork/beef meat and broth. Its gives a savory sweet and spicy taste. One of the most delicious pancit kind in Philippines. Commonly seen in the province like Batangas or Quezon province 6) Cassava cake 7) Buko pie

The best inihaw (grilled) liempo is actually the simplest one: salt and pepper only. No marinade. Then dipped in a soy sauce-vinegar-garlic-onion-chili- salt-sugar mixture. Another but different good dip option mainly used up north is the fish anchovy sauce-tomatoes-shallots. Heaven! And you haven't tried the green mango juice or the lechon sisig yet!

Hmm I'd say cooking grilled liempo could be different depending which region of the country you're from. I grew up having grilled liempo marinated in either fish sauce and black pepper or in dark soy sauce, calamansi juice, seven-up, brown sugar then dip in soy sauce, calamansi with red chillies.
@JanuWaray
@JanuWaray Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's how my father ( + ) used to grill pork liempo, and he only cooks it this way when the meat is fresh - i.e., from freshly-slaughtered pig. The flavor is simply intense, and the combination of simple ingredients (pork, salt, dipping vinegar with some garlic and onion) makes me feel I am eating unadulterated dish handed down by my Filipino ancestors.😂😁❤️

Filipino food is like a fusion of Spanish cuisine and Asian Cuisines. We love putting spices to our dish. To make a liempo tender, we let it boil with onion, garlic, pepper, laurel leaves and salt.

Its not authentic filipino dish if theres Spanish cuisine, chinese cuisine. Leche flan, lechon did not originate from Philippines, lumpia, pancit, soy sauce, fish sauce are not from Philippines. True authentic filipino food are “Tribal Food” Adobong puti, sisig, dinakdakan, Bagnet, Kilawin, tinolang papaya, sinigang, adobong pusit, pakbet, inihaw, ube halaya, suman, bibingka, puto. Stop gratifying the fusion cuisine cuz its not authentic Filipino food.

13:38 We don't hold our spoon and fork like that when eating. Maybe some Pinoys do. But in school they taught us the proper way of holding our spoon and fork, no pinky finger at the end of the handle, and your elbows are always near your side, not all over the place. The way you hold your spoon and fork is the normal proper way.

I think they have a more authentic one somewhere at the famous big catholic church (can’t remember the place, but Sandara ate there). Apparently that long stretch of tents with food stalls (like karinderya style) is really for Filipinos (and so the taste is not localized) who live or/and works there and go to that nearby church and it took awhile for the Korean government to allow them to do that.
