Authorities are advising the public not to touch or feed wild birds as a precaution against avian flu, or H5N1. No cases have been reported so far but they say there is a need to stay vigilant. Also called bird flu, the virus has infected humans in Australia and the United States. CNA’s Sherlyn Seah checks out what steps are being taken to prevent the virus from affecting Singapore. Spanish flu came from pigs in Kansas during WW1 and American soldiers brought it to Europe. It was a combination of a swine flu and an avian flu, we now know.

Consider restoring government clinics for more affordable subsdised veterinarian fees please. In this age of pandemics from cross species transmission by animals, the health and well being of our wild animals and pets are very important because they could be potential carriers.

Now some people will be cruel to the birds. ! Maybe even poisoning them. Like during the SARS time our nurses and medical staff went through periods of shunning by members of the misinformed public. Even moving seat away from nurses in the trains😡if you cant be kind dont be cruel!

@deschan2246 similar cases with covid denying fools only to contract, pass it on, suffer, and potentially pass away. bird flu is still a real deal, and if you think we're overreacting for "nothing" then you probably never met a pigeon.

Don't always blamed viruses on innocent birds, human are hundred times more unhygienic than animals and birds,just looked at our local coffee shop toilets and food courts coffee shop staff are just as unhygienic as animals and birds , food vendors are most times gluing onto their phones when no customers but never wash hands when serving worst some food stall staff never dry their hands when serving food to customers. There are many dirty and unhygienic that we neve notice only.

I hv seen neighbours & even security guards feeding wild pigeons around my neighbourhood. I told them, feeding the birds will attract more of them to come and breed, birds poop a lot, their poop can cause terrible diseases. My neighbours have since stopped feeding the birds, gradually fewer birds come.

So, we dont cull pigeons, we welcome more and more invasive parrots which grow by the thousands, then blame singaporeans for getting closer and closer to birds... Really closing monitoring indeed. Must salute the chief monitor leezard.
