Today's vlog is hefty. There was so much I wanted to share since I missed uploading on the first of this month. In summary, we tried a new occupational therapy product, started a new night time routine, learned how to functionally use a fork and momma got freaked-out to about a level 9 over some scratches. This life is not easy but each day I'm a better mom than yesterday, and I like to think I'm building myself up to be thee best woman for the job of being Anne's mommy!

Autism life is not easy, I am an autism mom, my son is now 16yrs, it had been a battle since his diagnosis at 2 but it is worth the fight, he went from non-verbal, low functioning to mid-level and a honor roll 10th grader... blessing sis

Mom you have every right to raise hell!! We are our babies biggest and sometimes only voices. I’m learning to respect and honor my boundaries and feelings as a mom and a woman. Too many times we let people convince us that we are being emotional or overreacting when we should trust our gut. Small scratches or not

Vaughn, your a great mom. Don't go second guessing yourself. I'm glad you followed your first mind and went to the school. I don't think you overreacted at all. Vaughn, I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner with a couple of tips for you and anyone suffering from anxiety from time to time. 1) Take about 5-10 deep breaths and say a prayer to calm down. 2) Take a walk if you can. Exercise really helps anxiety and I know you do that all the time. 3) Practice mindfulness daily. Mindfulness is focusing on positive things or positive thoughts ie; I have a wonderful family and my dtr is fine. Anne is not in the hospital or in any danger at the current time. Mindfulness really helps to keep you present, put things into prospective, stop the racing thoughts, in turn decreasing anxiety. Works like a charm. 4) Pay close attention to your sleep hygiene. When sleep is bad, anxiety is high. One thing I suggest for many of my patients is liquid melatonin. Liquid works better than the pill version. Good sleep hygiene really helps to prevent anxiety from going so high. 5) Know that every thought is not a valid thought. Just cause you think it, doesn't make it true! 6) Your automatic thoughts will contribute to the anxiety ie; did someone do something to Anne? That's why mindfulness works well because it changes your thoughts. Just want to help. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Thanks for sharing your life with us. Happy Holidays! Love, love, love your channel.

Sis, as a person with no children, I want you to know that you are not extra when you are concerned about your child. It is your job to protect her and be vigilant about her care. That's your job!!! Don't ever feel bad or apologize for being an "extra" Mom. I salute you and Anthony.

I was so waiting for this. I just love seeing Miss Anne. I’m sitting at the therapy center right now with one of the two Autism babies. I will be here until 6pm when the second one is done. But I feel you about things happening and you wanna know what’s up. Little Mama came home with scissor cuts throughout her hair! Of course nobody took responsibility for it. They just kept saying it didn’t happen here. But they had done SEVERAL projects using kids scissors. Even if she had done it herself, which she probably did, I still wanna know that she was supervised properly because scissors should NEVER make it to her head. Period! So I typically sit in the parking lot until both kids are done. Am I overprotective much? 🤔🤷🏾‍♀️❤️ Edit: OMG I need that sock!!! It’s perfect!! I have one that falls on purpose all the time. Nobody ever told me why! 🤯😮

As a school nurse to the special needs population, I’ve seen/witnessed children biting and scratching other children. Some kids also cause self inflicted scratches to themselves. So I wouldn’t be quick to blame the adults. But I definitely can understand your frustration.

I’m so happy that you made the decision to go and observe Ann in the classroom setting. My daughter is developing at a slower level than her peers (she 11y/o) and I still go to her school and observe. My daughter is testing on a 3rd grade level when she is supposed to be in 5th grade. As a mother/parent we try not to be that overly protective person but you want the best for your child.....(peace of mind). It’s hard but you are doing a great job.

Hi Ms. Vaughn, You are not a freak out Mom, you are a very loving , caring and attentive Mom. Anne is your child and you are very concerned about everything that goes on with her. I would be concerned if my child had scratches. You are correct, it’s not a child’s fault, it’s the adults who supervises them. I love the social stories and visual aids that are recommended for Anne. Anne was so adorable singing the “Bingo song”. I’m glad you talked to Anne’s therapy supervisor. I’m also glad that you got reassured that the environment she was in was a good one . I’m also glad that you found out where the marks came from. You are so correct, everyone will process things individually. You are doing a great job making sure your daughter is well taken care of and getting all the help she needs. Thank you for sharing. Anne is progressing along well. Shout out to #Harkla Body sock for reaching out to you with their product.

You are your child’s advocate. As an educator, I always encourage parents to advocate for their child. You were NOT overreacting at all. As you mentioned, the therapist is responsible for her and her alone. They have to be more observant and document any issues that occur. They have to be your eyes when you aren’t there. I enjoy watching these vlogs because I teach 6th graders and have a few students with autism in my class each year. Continue doing an amazing job as a mom! ❤️

Anne may be expressing her "But I don't want to go to bed" self, like me, LOL. I loved when she tried to guide you out of the bedroom. Smart baby! Have you tried using weighted blankets? I've read where they can be very helpful because they give sensory feedback to the body and reduce anxiety. Anne's joy with her body sock is written all over her face, she really loves the feeling it gives her. I loved using "Social Stories" with my students (I was an SLP for over 30 years). Anne did quite well for a first time attempt at bedtime. You know I cracked up to see how she was practicing it the next day. Share that with her therapists, we love that kind of thing. I'm happy to see that the staff of the program Anne attends are so open to working with you to relieve your anxiety (which is understandable) and increase your understanding of how the program works for Anne. Working with parents is just as important as working with the students.

I am a single mom with a 7 years old who is also on the spectrum.... I can't tell you how many times that I got no explanation as to how my son gets various injuries from his ABA day program. Absolutely! You should not let this slide. Austism or not! When my son came home with scratches on his face I asked the teacher what happened and why wasn’t I notified. They should contact you when incidents happen. You have to keep them on their p’s and q’s when he comes to your child. Also, consider moving the lamp away from her bed. That may help.

You are Awesome!! I’m so proud of how you handled your concern for Ann. That is your right and responsibility as a parent to know what’s going on with your child. Ann is a blessed little girl to have parents like you and Your husband. She is thriving beautifully from the love and nurturing she receives. God bless you. Continue the great work you all are doing with your precious baby girl. She’s adorable and smart. Also , I love that she was getting a head start on her night routine😀🙏🏽❤️

I love this series on your channel. I have a almost 3yr old and I’m definitely a little on the helicopter mom side. He is my first and only. So I don’t think you should ever feel bad about having questions. My friend taught me that because his child is on the spectrum and he said you have to be your child’s voice ! Thank you for sharing !

My child isn’t special Needs but his first few days of going on the van to daycare, one of the kids scratched his face. I freaked out!!!!!!! It had me on edge. So girl. I get it. I had to realize that sometimes things happen and the adults don’t see it. And kids touch each other too. It’s a lot of growing pains.
