Andy has never done this before! We were out at Ferry Meadows in Peterborough for our charity walk (details below) when we bumped in to one of Andy's friends from school. They proceeded to spend an hour together enjoying the miniature railway, and we got to see Andy properly interacting with someone his own age over a shared interest for the first time in his life. This is a massive leap forward in his development - and a massive thanks to Finley and his dad for letting Andy be a part of their day!

ABOUT THE CHAPMAN FAMILY
Hello folks and welcome to The Chapman Family! We are Kevin (dad), Anna (mum), Lucy (age 17), Andy (age 15), Amy (age 13) and Dave (around 35 in dog years).

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHAPMAN FAMILY
When Kevin left his full-time job as a Computer Science teacher in July 2017, Anna was trapped in our house by our son Andy, who is autistic and had refused to go to school for 18 months. Our daughters Lucy and Amy and our dog Dave hardly saw him because he was always working to try and solve all our problems! Today we're full-time content creators and Kevin is always at home when the kids get home from school (all our kids!) and Anna has been able to return to university. This channel is the story of my family's ongoing journey as family vloggers! Previously known as lollujo Vlogs and Kevin Chapman.

I know Andy isn't my child but it brings happy tears to my eyes to see him progress, developmentally at such a rapid rate. Andy is an AMAZING kiddo😊 Anna must be so proud of her son. For a moment I thought you, Kevin, were going to shed a tear or two. You were so excited for him. I absolutely loved this vlog👍🏽

This was such a lovely vlog!! What beautiful weather for a nice walk out, and it loved seeing you and Andy getting to ride the train. His friend is so kind and very enthusiastic! I loved watching him and Andy talk about preparing for the whistle when the train showed up!

Wow! Finnley is awesome! I like his whistle too. Excellent close out to the vlog. Andy’s attitude is more teenager than ASD. Sour and grumpy even when they get what they want. Lovely park. I wish I had something that nice to go to. I’d happily spend time there.

It's it's definitely ASD routine and having all deatils known and explained thoroughly is crucial to make public outings go smoothly he was getting anxious because as he undestood it he did his end of the bargain and his parents weren't keeping their promise promises are also important and breaking them never goes over well he was starting to think he wasn't going to get a train ride and even when he got it he was upset over everything that went down beforehand hence the grumpiness thankfully Finnley was there to perk him up

Imaginary Enemy I don’t understand why you feel you need to school me on something I’m very familiar with. I’m saying I viewed it as typical teenager behavior to be grumpy. Wasn’t discounting ASD. I see both behaviors in Andy.

@@jennifermurdock945 because you said it's more typical teen than ASD when it's clearly ASD a typical teen wouldn't care too much about the wording of the agreement they'd try to hurry things along to get to what they want to do I'm just clarifying because if you can't tell by the comments many take Andy's behvior as disobedience comments like yours can be misunderstood

I did see Andy filming Finlay watching the train in the background. Wonder if Finlay also enjoys trams, just an awesome idea to see if Finlay and his Dad would be interested in a trip on the trams with Andy, see the junction and the level crossing etc. Finlay might also have his own train trips, level crossings etc that Andy would enjoy.

What a sweet video! Remember the videos you didn’t like Andy watching a while back because the teenagers were using🤬 language? Teens love eating and hanging out with friends. I’m wondering if the videos he’s been watching are encouraging him to model normal teenage boy behavior.

They don’t like him watching videos with swearing because they don’t want him using that language as he’s not able to understand when it’s not appropriate to use swear words etc. It’s really nice to see him interacting with a friend outside of school though :)

Olivia Elliott I totally understand that, but I think his new found love of outdoor activities and willingness to eat something else besides pop and potato chips has something to do with him watching and modeling the behavior of “neuro typical” of other teenagers in the youtube videos. Most of the videos have more than one teenager in them. I’ve never heard Andy talk about friends and seeing a school buddy certainly isn’t “hanging “ out with friends. However, I’ve never seen him talk to any kids while out, I think the fact he was appropriately interacting with someone his own age is a step in the right direction. Interestingly enough, the two times Andy has used swear words were appropriate. I’m not saying I would let or want him watching videos with a lot of swearing, I think his initial interest in those videos has sparked a desire for him to “fit” in.

I'm sorry I don't have any money to donate at the moment, but what you guys are doing is so important, and I'm so grateful there are people like you doing this hard advocacy work, educating the masses, and normalizing autism! People are so quick to dismiss the struggle of autism, and the ways in which it impacts the whole family, but you do such a good job of showing Andy as the curious, intelligent, and interesting boy he is! Sometimes plans change, sometimes they go wrong, and that's okay! We are all just doing our best in this world.

Do you think its worth getting the canon G7X Mark II instead of the Mark III?

It depends what you want it to do. The Mark II is more reliable, cheaper and has a better autofocus, but the Mark III can shoot in 4K, stream directly from the camera and has a mic input.

He’s 15 or 16 , and most people learn what the bell sound is on the bike by the time your 5 or 6 , I understand he has leading difficulties

Izzie Bikes Andy would not understand that a bell on a bike means move over or out of the way. When I was andys age I did not understand that a bell means move out of the way or move over. Andys mental age is not like mine or yours (kev and Anna sorry if that upsets you guys I did not mean it like it might come across). So please think before you type next time
