Really appreciate this video, when I first started in the hobby, a lot of people on Facebook group told everything needs to be at 0!!!!! Worst advice ever 🤦🏾‍♂️

Almost a year now of dosing no3 and po4 and I can say it was absolutely the missing ingredient for my tank. Also I would not follow the advice of a lot of people saying to just feed more. I just got a new clam and more fish thinking I could just dump more food in the tank and slow down on the dosing. I checked parameters every other day and my no3 and po4 were stable throughout the feeding frenzy. After about 2 weeks I started getting cyano and hair algae and mind you I keep a close eye on my levels which were consistent. I can only attribute this to the food decay and possible spikes in ammonia and nitrite which triggered the hair algae and now that it has taken control of my filtration I have to dose reef flux. Just another lesson learned. By dosing no3 and po4 you are going straight to the source of your deficiency. Thanks for the great video Travis.

Man thank you so much for all the advice. Just stated dosing kh for about a couple months now, then I ran across this video. So I bought po4 and no3. 3 days so far everything is getting real close to Where it needs to be. Also realized I need to buy the gallons lol. Your channel by far has helped me out big time. I am going to be adding more fish real so I no to probably cut back on the dosing a bit. And my kh went a little low as you said it probably would. Really man thanks so much for the videos your helping a lot of people out there.

Been saying it for many years to my customers and they look at me like I'm from a different planet @.@" Bottom line is if algae struggle grow so will your corals. I use my ATO for dosing my nitrates. I was able to figure out how much nitrates my tank use and been doing it that way for a while and my tank stays at 4 ppm and phosphates I do manually once per week since it doesn’t need much but I just wanted to thank you so much Travis for the video you did a while back about dosing nitrates and phosphates my tank it’s doing great since 💯👍

Couple of them look a little sad right now hoping they cheer up with a little bit of time. question. I have 33g of water volume. Nitrates are around 5 and phosphates around 0. I continually dose 2ml of neophos twice a day, (I was doing once a day but it kept at 0) so now after testing, i am showing .006. I am currently using brightwell and will definitely be buying a gallon from you when I run out. What do you recommend I try to get my levels to and how much should I dose NeoPhos and NeoNitro? My glass constantly gets dirty quick and my hammer looks a bit upset as well as one of my zoas. Thanks again for the great content!

Thank you for the video. Both my nitrates and phosphates are zero. I dosed nitrates waited 24 hrs and tested. My nitrates still read zero. Should I continue to dose nitrates until it goes about zero or is there something else I should do? The bottle says I may be carbon limited.

I’ll be starting dosage of NO3 and PO4 today. Nutrients are both measuring at zero. Once I begin dosing should I stop anything else, ie skimmer or usage of chemipure blue or NOPOX? All things I’ve used in this tank for over a year now.

I was watching closely when you checked your nitrates wtih red sea, I also use Red Sea, how much water do you put in your test tube, it looked to me like 10mg... twice as much as I've been using. It was just an observation I noticed and could be seing things.......

my po4 is not detectable for several weeks ,i check using salifert po4, nitrate around 2-8 ppm .. this week i test my po4 using hanna phosphours ULR , and the reading is 0. i do target feeding my corals using ab+ and reef roids, is it the reason why my corals surive even with 0 reading for po4 ? the corals looking good and grow. should i start dosing po4 or just keep like now with regular feeding schedule ?

Hey man! How much phosphate would you dose for a 10 gallon (8gal water)? Fighting dinos and am using phosphate + dino x + bacteria to battle. Day 4 corals look amazing lol. I've done 3 doses of .5 ml, as I was a legit 0. First Ml was gone and used in two days, just did third dose of 0.5l today. (The firsf two doses of .5ml over 2 days brought Level to 0.04) I was thinking daily dose of 0.1 eventually but want your opinion to see if you think that is too much for such a small tank Awesome settup BTW!

Hi i am dosing NeoNitro today because my nitrates are zero, do i turn off my phosphate reactor till it comes up, N04 is at 0.04 and nitrates are 0.. cal 430.. only 5 small fish and 10 lps corals..the torch coral is receding bad .... 50 gallon tank.. skimmer been off 2 weeks no changes in nitrates doing that.. red sea nitrate kit.. hanna phosphate kit.. mag 1500..ph 8.2..not done a water change for 2 weeks

Hey man I know this is an old video but I know I'm going to get the right answer here. My tank has been set up for 9 months now and around the 4th month I hit a really ugly stage of GHA which lasted so long I almost closed it down. I eventually turned a corner with it around September and was looking good untl about a month ago when it seemed to take hold again. Strange thing is, there was no fish in the tank to be fed at this point as they were wiped out by velvet yet the algae still came back. Most videos I come across say lighting is to blame which I find strange as I can't exactly just keep my lights dim all the time or my corals will die. With that being said my single Radion XR15 has never went above 30% anyway. When I test my parameters even at the start of a bloom, nitrate has been higher than 15 and phosphate no higher than 0.05 so the nutrients aren't bound up in the algae and giving me false readings. I have dialled back my lighting to 20% which is absolute minimum I can go or my LPS corals will die like they did the first time round. I just don't get it, I'm doing weekly water changes of 10%, running a DIY algae scrubber which grows really well and change filter sock every week with the water change. Surely the biological filtration should be established enough to start outcompeting this algae. I've reached the limit of my skill to fight this outbreak but it seems to be beating me this time.

Interesting video for sure, I’ve definitely struggled with ULN and Dino’s. Wondering why you chose to still run a fuge if you’re struggling with low end nutrients? Seems counter intuitive?

I was dosing, removed my sandbed in my sump and found the balance, I was forced dosing more and more, the sandbed just kept it down, I was hammering through my nitrates. So after removing it and not dosing, it sits at 3ppm.

How come your nitrates and phos got so low that you need to dose to begin with? I know feeding corals can make nutrients ride. What happened to me is when I added my first corals frags to my 5 omth old tank I added way to many and when I started feedoing my nitrates shot up to 80 so I stared dosing nopox. Then nitrates went down to 2 and phos to zero so after a water chage my sand and glass and wavemakers appeared to have diatoms all over the place so I read that low nutrients are perfect breeding ground for dinos! I stated feeding corals nightly and cant get them to rise. Last night I dosed the neophos for the first time and it did nothing. I had dosed MB7 a few time and yesterday switched to vibrant . I also have a little GHA! I believe my nutrients wont rise because these bacteria are supposed to lower them as well! So what the heck does a person do to get rid of diatoms or dinos or whatever it is when the bacteria you are supposed to use lowers them as well? Crazy thing is feeding 2 x's a week shot up to 80 and now nightly feedings wont make them go up! The stuff I have looks like diatoms because it isnt stringy or snotty! Please give me some suggestions. I know I am not alone in this yet all my research i cant find anyone suggesting what to do in this situation!

Good grief.....My macro algae, skimmer, gfo/carbon took NO3 and PO4 to ZERO! So I shut off my skimmer, turned gfo/carbon off and cut back fuge light to 4 hours. I also ordered yout products to get back on track. Amazing how everything went to zero so frikken fast. Corals arent all pissed off....yet! Luckily I caught it. I used my Hanna NO3 checker and ran two tests, both with zero, and also used my Red Sea kit and it too read zero!!!

So I should stop using GFO? My NO3/PO4 read 0 always. No algae, but thick brown stuff grows - easy to siphon out but always comes back (not stringy/bubbly like Dyno) with patches of Cyano. I do Triton method, big skimmer, chaeto.

Good tip, but I prefer natural sources of no3 and po4, instead of adding synthetic stuff. I have a 150 gallon mixed reef, acropora dominated. It is a 3 year old system, and I usually maintain a low nutrient environment with heavy import and heavy export methods. But in the last months I saw my acros a bit pale and with growth a bit slower too. My N03 is usually between 1-2 ppm and phosphates between undetectable and 0.03 ppm ( i use GFO reactor, which I’m doubling the time I change the media, from every 3 weeks to every 6-8 weeks). I’ve decided to increase feedings to my fish from 3 times a day to 6 times a day since a month ago and color and growth has definitely increased. I’ve dialed up my calcium reactor output and my No3 and po4 are the same as before, but I guess the corals are using it, and that’s why the increase is not showing on the test kits (I use salifert and Hanna).

This is a bare bottom tank, so pretty much all detritus goes to the overflow and get skimmed, and naturally, nitrate and phospate will be low so dosing phosphate and nitrate is reasonable.

Why are nutrients hard to get down but once you do you cant get them back up? My nitrates were 80 now after dosing nopox wont rise above 2 no matter how much I feed. I notice alot of people dosing this suff and my thinking used to be just feed more! i am also dosing Vibrant once a week but need to because I am afraid I might have dinos either that or diatoms and GHA. I have had pretty low phosphates for awhile from using chemipure elite but removed that awhile ago and now they are zero. I would love to buy your product but with shipping charges its actually more expensive then Brightwell, maybe if I can find some coral to go with it, would bring the price down.

Just because you're composed of 75% water it does not mean you 3/4 of you daily intake is water. "Redfield ratio or Redfield stoichiometry is the consistent atomic ratio of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus found in marine phytoplankton and throughout the deep oceans." (wiki) It is what it says. Its the proportion of the elements in final biomass product - it says nothing on how one arrives at that ratio. it would be relevant if you dosed marine phytoplankton - ie you would know relative proportions of what you dosed (you could measure PO and know hom much C and N you dosed) It says NOTHING about the rate marine phytoplankton is consuming said resources never mind fish and corals.
