"Auto-lite" always reminds me of Harlow Wilcox's ads on the old Suspense radio programs....."And remember - You're always right, with AUTO-LITE".

The voice of the operator, would say “You’re always right with Autolite Goodnight” at the end of the show.

My Dad worked at the La Crosse WI plant after he got out of high school in the late '30. After serving in the Army in WW2 he came back and worked until 1959 when the plant closed.

The theme music in the closing "parade" sequence is from the Marches Militaires, March No. 1 in D major by Franz Schubert, which can be found elsewhere on KZfaq.

I wish manufacturing would come back to the USA period. All Americans benefited from it. But our "make them pay their share" friends in Washington are the ones responsible for most of it now happening elsewhere. 👎 It's difficult for someone to support a family working at a fast food joint or at Walmart. Anyways... Yes I bet that was a fine job to have back then.

Ah - but most of us are _dumber._ One was required to actually use one's brain on a daily basis...often just to avoid death or injury...designers really had to _invent and innovate_ - today, we simply refer to data we access on our phones.

Sweet memory of a time when you could work on your own car and not have to pay a guy $100 to tell you what is wrong but yet he can't fix it till he tries three or four different parts @ $200 apiece? Wow, we have come a long way. Was that song Boy Scouts on Parade?

Always enjoyed these commercials back then. Didn't know then that some years later I would be one of the guys who was installing those parts. Reminds me of marching to and from class at St Rose of Lima Catholic School to John Phillip Suza music. Can imagine everyone being a spark plug or whatever. NOTE: There was also a tobacco company that used a similar type of advertisement with cigarette packs and I'm not sure if I remember match books in the "parade" also.

Indeed. It was Henry Ford who imagined the assembly line when thinking of a way to be able to manufacture his cars so that everyone could afford one across all socioeconomic classes. His idea revolutionized all types of industry. 👍

From films I've seen, The electrical industry employed many women in manufacturing. (Auto-Lite, Western Electric, Westinghouse...) To hear it today, except for war time, women didn't do any "real" work untill the '70s. But then people thing "Leave it to Beaver" represents the '50s, As accurate as thinking "Friends" represents the '90s.

Exactly, the girls never got the recognition they so well deserved back then.

21:24 for the 16 valve distributor(s)
@sonicstep7 жыл бұрын
Assuming the engine has one plug/cylinder, it is 16 plugs less the centre high tension connector/s in the middle (not sure what the adjacent connector is to the typical central one. Perhaps supplementary high tension). Valves most likely 32 (multi valve engines were in existence prior to then. For example Peugeot L76).
