Thank you so much for this, Ive been beating my head against my keyboard for hours. I had used mirage to automatically open an fullscreen image on boot for video menuboards at a client's restaurant 3 years ago. One of the RPis sd card became corrupted and I had to reflash it. I had forgotten that I modified the auto-run file and that was bypassing the boot config.txt file.

Thanks for the video! I am also working for similar task. The raspberry pi 4 is connecting 2 monitor, I need to auot run 2 pdf files full screen, let say a.pdf on 1st monitor and b.pdf on 2nd monitor, when the pi turned on. (It's for instruction purpose in a produciton line, the pdf show the production process). I have tried the similar way like your video, but I only can open 1 pdf file in one monitor. How can it auto run 2 pdf file on both monitors wth full screen for every startup? (I am using qpdfviewer)

I'm saved!!! simple in 2 mins!!!! I used it to autorun Supercollider not to run a specific file. Then I used the startup file within SC to run my file.

I wanted this to work so bad. I cannot for the life of me get anytbing to happen no matter if i yse the global autostart file or the one in the usr folder. Copied your method which is similar to many others and nothing happens on start up at all. Do you know of anything that would be stopping the autostart commands from running? Its like the file isnt even being looked at 😭

I know one way would be to pass an argument to the software. For instance, with chromium, you can run "chromium-browser --start-fullscreen" to run it full screen. Other software might have similar arguments.

@@blue_water3888 Go to the chromium app properties and add " Full screen " at the end of the path. Chromium will automatically open but you have to add some additional command to exit from the app

This does a similar thing for an IP camera: www.rickmakes.com/monitoring-an-ip-camera-using-a-raspberry-pi-no-internet/ It opens the camera full screen. The part that might be of assistance is the "Create Camera Service". You would need to change the "ExecStart" to open the web cam as opposed to the IP camera. This runs as a service and tried to restart the service if it fails.

After you type "chr", you want to press tab. If you have "chromium-browser" installed, it will auto complete the line. If you want to learn more about it, google something like "what is command line completion" and you should find some deeper explanations. It can make it a lot easier to enter commands on the command line.

Fantastik video....exactly what i was looking for. I wanted to use the pi as a controll panel showing a machine webpage right at the start. By the way....how can i go back to desktop if i need to change something? The browser comes up in full screen and i cant press F11 for the window mode ;) I think i used the kiosk mode :/ @chromium-browser --kiosk URL

If you have ssh set up, you can log in remotely from another computer and run something like "killall chromium-browser". I think you might be able to type something like Control-Alt-F2 to get to a console. I did a video almost two months ago on setting up a locked down kiosk: www.rickmakes.com/locked-down-offline-wikipedia-kiosk-on-raspberry-pi-4/ You might be able to glean information from those instructions for your project.

I think you can do something like: "chromium-browser --start-fullscreen". If you are making any sort of kiosk, I have a Wikipedia kiosk build here: www.rickmakes.com/locked-down-offline-wikipedia-kiosk-on-raspberry-pi-4/ You might be able to glean information from that build. I used the Surf browser full screen on it. It is lightweight but may not work with all web sites.
