home depot sells 2 in x 8 in by 12 feet and will cut 12, 12" shims for you. FYI for anyone out there that does not have shims available. Cost is less than $20.

Great video. I want to track my SS 1le but i didnt want to buy a car hauler trailer that will sit around most of the time. This uhaul transport will do the job fine. And i was looking on ways to load the car and you nailed it. This takes a big load off me man...

Highly recommend putting the wood blocks under the front wheels even if you have enough clearance at the front bumper because my car was too low to clear the fender support (even with the top of fender lowered down there is still a vertical shield/support in the way) and I think the blocks would have lifted it above the fender support.

This video is wrong in so many levels. The trap is not securing the tire in the proper manner. It should be over the top covering the tire 50% , not behind on the back side of the tire

@@NKaumans Not true, the reason is because the trailer metal in front of the wheels is already holding the front part. Having the strap on the rear of the tire ensures it stays against securely the metal.

@@Rannd regardless of the front tire stop the straps should be over the entire top half of the tire. The ensures the tires are being secured to the trailer in a uniform force. Furthermore, trucks and SUVs will have no problem riding up over the tire stop with their larger diameter wheels

@@Rannd sounds good chief. You and u-haul know best. Considering u-haul doesn't even make this car carrier, I'm sure they know what best. You're right, a truck that has twice as large of tire should be fine using a undersized strap, makes sense .

If you rent a Uhaul trailer from the hood. Check the lights yourself because the salesman will lie and say they work.

I still need to make a new reservation for a truck & auto transport for June which hope this time I'll be able to move. Last time for me was May 2001 from Iowa to Texas. I've never used blocks of wood in past.

i have a run of the mill STOCK honda civic. only 4.75" of clearance! definitely need this. U haul should have a purpose built kit for such situations!

Hi: that Scat Pack weight is 4,082 lbs. the car transporter carrying capacity is 4,055 lbs. that would make it over weight by 27 lbs. not including fuel in the gas tank, may want to tow on E.

Front engine must be loaded with engine to front. Engine at the rear of trailer will sway. Badly.

Tried renting when moving to Colorado was moving my Lowered EVO X. The the trailer didnt have the movable fender so couldn't get out of the car..

Same lol except even with the removable fender I was still stuck since there is a portion that stays in place and it was still in the way. I trailered my Evo X yesterday and had to jump out the window and flick the window switch to shut the window. Getting the door open again required completely unbolting the vertical fender shield that sits in the way of the car door.

On a uhaul you don't have to secure 4 corners?

lacking some info here. some would call it common sense but there is no such thing. The ratchet straps need to be LOCKED. the chains should be slightly tighter. can be achieved by twisting. Also dont want those chains to damage brake lines or electrical. And dont wrap the chains over any axles. Frame/crossmembers only. Just a few things that should have been addressed. It also helps to have a slight bit of extra strap so it bites on itself. But i cant explain in text how to do that. If you pull it tight then ratchet it tight there could be no strapping on the cylinder of the ratchet it could slip. Ive seen it happen. again this part is hard to explain. Has tor be shown.

Not sure if you figured this out yet but you can add boards or shims on the trailer so that the front tires are higher in the air at the point that your exhaust would be crossing over the arch.

If you are loading a car with manual transmission, do you leave it in a gear or neutral? With parking brake on?

First tighten all straps. Then put in gear and set parking brake.

@@johnjames5020 $10 says most people will forget they didn't put in gear....it's almost bad advice....but I'll definitely do it....while the car is being loaded it might save your transmission if someone applies the brakes in the tow vehicle.

I drive a car hauler, we always put it in gear and set the brake before strapping. If you put the straps in the right place it won’t pull against the car when you tighten them down.

I got mine from Home Depot. They even cut the lumber free of charge. Loading my 6th gen Camaro on one of these U-Haul transports in a week or so... Moving to GA

When I try to reserve this to tow my dodge challenger U-Haul says it's "not recommended" and does not allow me to select. Is there a way around this or other available options? I have a new job and need help fast.

Bad idea unless the engine is removed. Ideally, you want the heavy side of the load on the front of the trailer so enough weight is on the trailer tongue. If you don't have enough tongue weight, the tow vehicle will be more likely to sway.

Per U-Haul yes it’s capable-Be sure to talk to the U-Haul dealer about the type of vehicle and weight of the vehicle that’s being trailered

Another way to load a lowered vehicle is to jack up the front of the trailer (the jack that is bolted on the trailer). This gives the trailer an incline so your vehicle front bumper doesn't scrap. I have done this before.

@@garrettallen675 You would have to unhook from the hitch to jack it up. Once the car is on the trailer you can jack it back down onto the hitch.

Yes and no. Yes you can jack up the hitch if it is a pickup, I have done it several times. this would cause the rear end of the truck to move up. The higher the truck, the more incline you get. And probably a no if it was a uhaul truck, I don’t know how heavy those things are.

Load the truck first, the trailers are pretty easy to take off and put back on

Do not knot the safety chains , wrap it around the anchor point again to take up slack . Do not place boards in the trunk , the shoring will dent the quarter panels .

..... Those straps are not secured. The wrap should be covering almost 50% of the tire on it, and should be on top of the tire, not behind it as shown in the video....

When you begin to ratchet the strap, you need to start with a semi loose strap so that it overlaps itself inside the ratchet....if not there won't be enough pressure to keep it from sliding back out......not one single video shows this....

The straps are primarily to prevent the car from moving backwards. The metal tire stop at the front of the trailer is what prevents the car from moving forward.
