How interesting that Queen Elizabeth was a smoker! How amazing is that that we have to learn about something like that through her sister's spirit. Must have been the best-kept royal secret because I never ever heard a whiff of it at any time in my 60 years. I wasn't much into Margaret but she comes off as a likeable personality here. @@annettechaw3203 How would you know?! Besides, you don't have to be a chain smoker in order to be a regular smoker. I used to be one myself and I was never a chain smoker. Yet, I smoked regularly for 40 years. You have no way of knowing what kind of smoker she was because it was never publicised in the media.

It was quite normal to smoke, only when socialising back in the day. I only smoked when out having a drink. Gave up completely 33 years ago.

True. Both Catherine and William have really taken the reins since Megxit. Just look at videos of them before that compared to now. Catherine is very competitive, so she probably stepped up her game.

Margaret could have and should have married Peter Townsend. Of course it would have meant giving up her very spoilt rather selfish life something she was not prepared to do for love. She lived a very hedonistic life. When Colin Tennant gave her land in Mustique, she asked him to pay for and have a villa built for her on the land. It is where she lived a debauched life. The British Gangster, John Binden, was one of her guests and claimed to have been one of Margaret's numerous lovers. As for Colin Tennant, a real nasty piece of work who beat his Wife, Anne so badly with the bone handle of his walking stick that he perforated her ear drum and she ended up deaf in one ear. Lady Anne wrote a book about her life with Tennant. The book is called "Lady in Waiting".

Princess came across, very much as a fun party girl. However reading between the lines, her comments on the spare was very interesting. I never knee Queen Elizabeth smoked. But that revelation was certainly correct for ladies of the age group. They all smoked. It was anti social not to smoke. But I imagine she gave it up in later life.

Regarding her pausing to check on things I totally believe that. My husband and I had a blissfully codependent relationship with complete honesty so when he passed away I had once a dream I was calling him on the phone and I could see his place where he was like his current home. I would ask questions and there would be static on the line as he nonchalantly answer them as he would answer anything I would ask in life. Once he was done then his voice would come back on the line like normal. I didn't push it further because I didn't want him to get in trouble or mess anything up.

That sounds so much like Princess Margaret. I didn’t know that the Queen smoked. However she was brought up in the generation where both parents smoked and Prince Phillip. I wonder if she quit later in life?

Ann had to drop back immediately Andrew was born, so was not a spare for long. That could have been the case with Charlotte except the Queen took the long view and issued Letters Patent to change the line of succession(male primogeniture). IMO she did this not knowing William would have another child, but as a precaution because she knew of H's character and he was too near to the throne should anything happen to Charles, William or George.

I can think of at least two spare’s which became monarchs and we thought thank god, Elizabeth I , George V and obviously George VI so Margaret’s own father. I think she was having fun with us😂

@@lalalalalalwlla but not it illustrates not all “ spares” role is to cause trouble. The spare is exactly that - a spare in case the heir dies. If you look back at history there are many spares who became the monarch and that was exactly the role of the spare to be there to step in - in case the heir died. As we have seen in the case if Henry Vlll, his children, even Queen Victoria wasn’t a natural heir to the throne. The line of succession has always been precarious and it’s only the last 100 years that the “spares” have been seen as troublesome due to having no role. Spares in the past were married into other royals families to ensure alliances and peace between nations.

I never knew what Margaret's speaking voice was like, so having watched the Crown, i kept hearing Helena Bonham Carter and Lesley Manville speaking while you were reading 😂. That's funny that she said the Queen also smoked, i can't picture it! She did have a reputation for being naughty and quite the party animal, and you can certainly sense that in the writing session. I hope that her and the Queen do come back as twins, that would be lovely. How do spirits communicate with each other? I'm guessing maybe by some sort of telepathy, since i remember you said that they don't speak as such.

One of my children, worked at a governor’s residence in Australia. I won’t say in what Australian State for obvious reasons. I will say this, my child told me, that Queen Elizabeth did smoke cigarettes. It was told to my child upon beginning employment at this Governor’s residence, that the Queen had to be moved from her Royal bedroom suite, into a suite with a balcony because she was a chain smoker. It is against the law, to smoke inside these buildings and even Queen Elizabeth was not above the law.

I would imagine the queen was a social smoker unlike Margaret, their father was a heavy smoker and died from lung cancer. As a child I thought Mags was beautiful especially when she married Tony ❤

That was lovely hearing Princess Margaret that sounds so typical of her! I kind of suspected that the Queen might have a fly cigarette as it was fashion everyone smoked back then. what a shame she couldn't have a G&T . i am glad the sisters are reunited it broke the Queen's heart when her sister died. my family met her once at Balmoral they were out walking the Queen mother, the Queen and Princess Margaret . Margaret is the one i remember most she was so lovely , i was about 6 at the time we saw her Balmoral, Bridge at Ballater, Aberdeenshire . She spoke to my parents a bit about the weather and then she turned back and gave us a beautiful smile and a wave. Hey M! 😘 The 'alright already' phrase sounds peculiar, as Brits don't typically use that, especially aristocrats. 'Sole' purpose not 'soul' lol. Note she said the spare's life is about making the heir look 'better', that's exactly what H said in his book, uh-huh! It was also reported in British papers when the brothers were younger, H had to take the blame for things they both did equally. Mags never loved anyone lmao, she's like Olive, maybe she came back as Olive!! 😆 The Townsend scam was Neil Seanesque romantic fiction. Interesting that she thinks heaven is dull because I thought it was like, however, you wanted it. Anyway, it sounds like the person she will be reincarnated as has a mother that still young so either one of the grandchildren of the queen that haven’t had children yet or one of those grandchildren has to grow up and have a child and that will be her. I immediately thought of Charlotte and I don’t know if that makes sense to anybody else or not.

I wasn’t a fan of Margaret. She was a troublemaker for QE2. I always felt bad for QE2 with Margaret, Andrew and Harry. She worked so hard for the British Monarchy and those above seemed to add to her burden. I believe that’s way I disliked Margaret. I would have thought the spares would have seen the burdens on the next in line and been supportive instead of detrimental! I agree she was not a guardian angel. I believe she loved QE2 but like the others, she seemed selfish and immature. However, so are both Andrew and Harry immature!

It's interesting that Margaret didn't consider her own father Bertie a spare who was needed!! He was after David (Edward VIII). Bertie was put down for shyness and stuttering by his father and brothers (not Henry).

Spares a/k/a younger children have a responsibility to 1. Be there in case of the worst 2. Observe and learn the basics of the job 3. Be always of good counsel and advice to the primary and his or her advisers 4. Take on duties cheerfully and with good humor 5. Be a source of comfort and connection to the next generation...support the family This operates in families everywhere.

She was a real character,must have given the Queen a few sleepless nights with her too lol!..But they were close.Would be funny if there was twins born though ha ha!, I probably won’t be here then .Funny how when you get older years get shorter,yet when we were younger time seemed so slow.
