I love the altimeter speedometer too. That's my favorite feature of the 9-5. I'm glad to know I'm not crazy.

For anyone thinking of trying this, the monochrome cluster has pretty much all the same features, including the altimeter display. It's also the bright green that is everywhere in Saabs, so IMO it matches better with the ICM and SID displays. They're also much cheaper and easier to find. I couldn't for the life of me find a multicolor cluster so if you can't find one either, you won't miss out on much if you do the monochrome.

Hi! I am a long time watcher of your channel and i absolutely love the content. There really aren't many good saab related videos out there. As far as the bulb is concerned, SMD stands for surface mount device. It is essentially a normal led bulb designed to take up less space when soldered to a circuit board. The replacement would cost a couple cents, but figuring out exactly what type you need (voltage and current rating) is a bit tricky. The soldering is also a bit tedious, but doable. If you want, we can hop on a call and i can guide you through the process, or you could even send the cluster to me and i can replace it (for free of course, it would be an honor to contribute to the channel). You would just have to pay for the shipping.

That is awesome! Now your gauge cluster looks more like a 9-4x too! I also didn’t realize that you could get the multi-color for a 9-5. I’ve only ever seen the monochrome color for the 9-5s.

You should try to retrofit the heads up display from the NG 9-5 as well, I'd love to do that too mine I just dont have the knowledge to do so lol

Hi Jacob, You're in luck as Electronics is my day job LED's are LEDs they all work basically the same the colour and the packaging is what makes them different. LED stands for, light emitting diode. They are a diode that conducts when forward biased and produce light. The don't work if you connect them back to front. The Volts drop across it varies with Colour which is only really a concern if you are calculating current limit resistor values. which if you are replacing like for like will already have been done. So don't know the 95 dash specifically but, as you flashed up on the screen SMD (Surface Mount Device) LED. Basically you can buy those for pennies on auction sites but you will need either a really good soldering station and exceptional soldering skill or, if not a pair of SMT heated tweezers, some rework flux and big cojones. As they are more than likely soldered directly to the PCB in the gauge cluster. Sorry but you're basically going to had to take the cluster out to take it apart to see what leds you have. Take so pictures note the physical size and google for a match then go buy some

Does that fit my Volvo? Just kidding, I seriously doubt that it would be “that easy” and that you could that thing to where it would mimic a DIM (Drivers Information Module) and then translate that info to signals for that Saab cluster. Furthermore the R cluster would suit my car better and is already a gorgeous piece.

Smd led mean you're need soldering yourself to install maybe you can just measure the led size and found in internet

What I read you'll lose some of the warnings such as "low coolant" warning when installing that one. Also eSid won't work. Will keep my NG9-5 MY2011 and NG9-3CV MY2007 as they are. But yeah, they both have Android audio units 😁
