www.autobytel.com/nissan/altim... The Altima’s fifth generation design is officially 3 years old and this car competes in one of the largest segments in the industry: the mid-size sedan segment. Nissan holds its own by providing everything that a buyer is looking for at this level: spacious interior, large trunk, fuel economy, and lots of modern technology. Basically it’s everything you need in a modern passenger car. The 2015 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV has a base price of $24,720.
Overall the Altima is a sleek car with some interesting style points but at the end of the day it still looks similar to other cars in this category. The engine is a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder that makes 182 horsepower and the CVT combines to get 27 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway. On the inside the Altima may be at the top of the list when it comes to comfort.
If you are the type of person who just wants something cheap, roomy, and reliable to go back-and-forth to work then the Altima is the perfect car. As a bonus the Altima has excellent crash scores. Video by Christian Wardlaw

After renting a 2013 Altima 2.5 for a vacation trip, my wife and I fell in love. Mileage was better than advertised and comfort was amazing. We again rented another 13 model for another shorter trip just to see if the first time was a fluke. Happily it was just the same as before. We hit a dealership after we got back and purchased a new 13 Altima SV April of 2013. We had no problems from the car after putting 24,000 miles exactly on it. On Dec 12th 2014 we traded that car and became the proud owners of a 2015 Nissan Altima SV. We got a better deal and lower interest rate and lower payment. Was not expecting to trade. The Altima is a great car period.

Steering was very responsive, didn't like the braking, too sensitive for my tastes. Love the backup camera and usb charging. Cruse control is great. Also liked the tilt/telescopic steering wheel. Great highway fuel economy. Why go with the V6 when the 2.5 gives you awesome acceleration from standstill. Very good visibility all round. There's my two cents.

Good review but I have to correct the guy; 2015 Altima has electric hybrid steering. This system uses an electric hydraulic steering pump. So all his comments about steering feedback and feel based on steer by wire conceptions are wrong. This car has steering feel that is appropriate for its class. One other point- there are 3 ways to open the trunk; button in the cabin, key fob and push the button on the trunk lid which works if you have the smart key fob in your pocket. Thanks for the review; it appears to be pretty accurate based on my 18 months in a '15 2.5 SV Altima.

Obrigado

We bought a used (formerly leased) gold 2015 Altima S with a beige interior. We got the beige interior because we felt the black interior would just be too hot during the Summer months. We get about 31.5 mpg city at the moment. Which is way better than my 2007 Buick LaCrosse CXL used to get. Since my son is a hockey player and we have to go out of town for at least one tournament during the season I'm curious to see if the mpg will hit 40 as they estimate. The steering wheel is slightly smaller than previous cars we've had, so that took a little getting used to. But it's nice and loose and steers really well. It took a little getting used to as it tended to make me overcompensate turning corners. And I love the telescoping steering column because it gives me more freedom to position the steering where I feel most comfortable. My only complaints about this vehicle is the headrests and having to get used to a 4 cylinder engine in place of a 6. The car has good pickup when I need it on the freeway or need to get into traffic quickly. But because it has a 4 cylinder 2.5 liter engine instead of a 6 cylinder 3.5 liter engine, once I let up on the gas it does tend to slow down quicker than what I'm used to. When I have the seat back where I like it the headrest still comes forward due to it's design. Which prevents me from putting my head back where I would feel more comfortable. As it is I feel like I have to hunch forward a little which makes my neck muscles feel a little cramped at times.

Interesting comments. I just bought a 2015 Altima 2.5L SV a couple weeks ago, and am still learning the beast (there's a lot of things to learn). Coming from a 1999 Ford Mustang, I had/have some very different opinions about the "sportiness" and handling. First, the really good thing I noticed quickly... lateral stabilizers going around a turn at moderate speed are really nice. I got the feeling of "stickiness" to the road, not even a hint of understeer or oversteer, good tracking. Despite the nice corner handling, I was really surprised at how badly the suspension went over some speed bumps. The shocks were poor and I could feel the suspension bottom out at a fairly low speed when I hadn't experienced this same feel in my Mustang or a 2007 Lexus 350. After going over those speed bumps so badly a few times, I now go over the bumps gingerly. I had a completely opposite opinion as expressed in this video about the power steering. Coming from a muscle car, I enjoy a feel of the road and road vibrations communicated all the way through the steering wheel. I got none of that in this Altima, the feel is more like a luxury car's floating through the road with the tiniest touch to steer like a Cadillac or other large luxury car instead of a sporty, road feel. Heck, the Lexus 350 SUV has more "road feel" than this Altima. Other than these items, I more or less agree with most of what was described in this video. If there was time, I'd probably list a bunch of other things I find attractive in this car. Of course, no review would be complete without at least mentioning the Nissan CVT reputation. I admit that it's a worry that the CVT has such a bad reputation but I hope I won't have to deal with those problems. When you buy used, there's no way to know for sure if any car maintenance was done properly, and now the CVT is probably the biggest worry with the greatest sensitivity to poor maintenance.

Chris, you seem to really like the Altima but your turned off by the steering. I own a fully loaded 2015 Altima with all the options including the rear deck lid spoiler in the optional White Pearl. This color just makes the car pop. I also find the 4CYL engine just fine and I average about 32 miles per gallon in local and highway driving. I drove the Mazda 6 and it rides very hard & is noisy also. The Honda Accord just does nothing to me with it's plain looks and it's drab interior. I am very glad I purchased this car over the Competition and the steering is just fine for me.

At about 8:20 into the video review, Chris says "It's (the 2015 Altima) actually pretty close to the top of my list". Then at the very end when he does his wrap up, he really just calls the vehicle boring, uninspired, no fun to drive with crappy electronic steering. I think he's being a tad too hard on the Altima. Look at what you get for the money. The gas mileage, seat comfort, exterior design improvements and the nice Cayenne red color offering make this a great choice. In fact, I'm getting one myself.

+Douglas Hartt He drives so many vehicles and he explains that. He is constantly experiencing other vehicles that probably outclass the altima in many ways. Like when he drove the ford fusion he was blown away by the electric steering. And he now has a baseline to compare it to. So what he says is pretty accurate compared to what an average guy would rate the car as.

I have a 2012 Altima, looking to upgrade to the 2015 but im shopping similar cars. I'm finding it hard to depart from my Altima or even Nissan because I get excellent treatment at the dealership (my usual, not all) and the car drives great, never had a problem with it mechanically. When I first bought it at 24K miles in 2013, I would call the dealer and complain of a noise but I was told its normal and after a while I adjusted to it, doesn't bother me too much. Can you imagine running and being asked to not breath hard because it sounds abnormal? lol ok! and its nothing compared to that noise the 2015 Sonata produce. Now this guy is right about the look, its not much to look at compared to other Makes in this class but it is a nice car and again drives nice, I almost feel like im driving a sports car, ALMOST. My only gripe with the Altima is the fabric seats. I don't have the option of leather unless I get the SL which is a bummer. The fabric seats suck after a while, the mats quickly form fuzz balls, the seat looks washed and worn, they need to choose better cloths. I got a tough decision to make

+Starfish you can still want to be inspired despite having to buy a midsize sedan. Just because you can't buy a super sports doesn't mean you cant find a car that excites you when you drive. There are family guys and people with lower income that need to drive. If you are going to drive anyways might as well get one that excites you. There are many such cars like the WRX. He is not saying its a bad car. But hes saying there are better options for those looking for more fun and not so conservative and that is true.
@mikeserenar
@mikeserenar 8 жыл бұрын
+Starfish As someone who purchased a Altima new in 2012, I promise you never be inspired driving one, due primarily to the CVT that sounds like you have a 4 propeller drone under the hood hunting high and low for the correct ratio to satisfy the current conditions. If it weren't for the CVT, I'd highly recommend a Altima, but I can't because of it.
@bradtrent4839
@bradtrent4839 7 жыл бұрын
FYI- the CVT has been vastly improved since 2012, no more searching for the appropriate ratio. The Sport mode does a good job of 'learning' your driving style too, it downshifts well when braking and gets to high rpm as quick or quicker than an automatic transmission. CVTs have come a long way from their beginings.

That thing with the steering is a bummer. So can you tell me if there is an affordable mid-sized sedan that doesn't have anything about it that makes you want to pull your hair out? Or is there a fairly roomy compact that would make more sense?

I have a 2015 Nissan Altima Sedan SL 2.5 LITRE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AND THEY HAVE RE-CALLS ON THAT YEAR FOR PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AIR BAG GIVES A FALSE READING, THE BACK PASSENGER RIGHT DOOR HAS A TENDECY TO OPEN WHEN YOU PUT DOWN THE WINDOW, AND THE HOOD LATCH ALSO HAS A TENDECY OF UNLOCKING WHERE THE HOOD CAN COME UP, NOT TO MENTION ABOUT EVERY 80 TO 100 THOUSAND MILES YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE PULLIES AND BELTS ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND ALSO THE TIMING BELT, BUT THE DEALERS WONT TELL YOU THAT PART . MANY PROBLEMS.

I have driven Nissan Altima for almost 3 years now. Only in Thailand we have 2.0 and 2.5 cc. Mine is 2.0 cc coz I am an easy going sorta driver. I bought it at the price of abt USD 42,810. The Nissan Altima's price range in Thailand is around US$ 37,500 - 50,000, and they r CKD. I guess u guys don't have the 2.0 cc in America. Also in Thailand, we call it Nissan Teana, not Nissan Altima. The TWO MISTAKES I made were choosing the beige seats, and getting a black car. Now I see marks, some black or brown spots that are literally, inside the little holes on the cushion. The beige seats come with beige carpet and ceiling. Oh, it is a tragedy. The black car is always with scraches, marks, I drive so carefully, but dont know where those r from. hahahah I am sure to my bone that my next car, I WILL go for black interior, and some other white or bronze or dark silver exterior. Other than that I am super satisfied. The cushion at the back seems to be much more comfy. I love it everytime I get to sit at the back, though only 2 minutes each time....., I feel wow, then I have to forget it, and move back on to my driver's seat....sigh..... All in all, Teana or Altima s a great choice. Oh by the way, when I first got it, it felt kinda sleepy driving it, but the frequent warning system is alarming all the time, so that wakes u up.

+JayePapers My mother has a 2005 Nissan Murano with the CVT. It's 10 years old, has roughly 100,000 miles on it and has no issues at all. Remember in most cases, you'll only get the customers with problems online complaining not the tens of thousands of happy customers. I just ordered one and have full confidence that if you drive it light and as nothing more than your daily commuter, you should be fine.

+JayePapers I purchased a new Altima in 2012, and it the last one too, due primarily to the unsettling sound the trans has been making lately, with ONLY 45K miles on it, theres going to be a few that will last over 100K miles and brag about it, but modern cars should get you 200K from the engine and trans, but the CVT in the Altima will prevent that.

don't listen to ppl about cvt failures. they're just as reliable these days as regular auto. I saw a camry tranny go out at 40k miles and I've heard of nissan cvts go well over 100k with no issues. just depends on who you talk to and their experience.

Naveenshanv Good question, Raymond. Naveen- My question is this: Would I need to buy new rims for 18, 19 inch tires? What price tag are we talking about for new wheels? Do I need to do it though my dealer or to a tire place? Thanks.
@NS416
@NS416 9 жыл бұрын
Douglas Hartt Douglas I think the question would be if you need new Tires for your new Rims? If so, yes. When you increase the size of your rims, you will need new tires. If you live in a snowy place, you can use the tires and rims that came with your Altima for the winter. Rims and Tires prices vary, I highly recommend getting them from a good rim store, not Nissan themselves. They don't have much choices. You can get them installed by your dealer I believe.

I get over 38 M.P.G. so he needs to learn how to drive. Many push the accelerator then the brake and wonder why they only get 22 MPG. The one complaint I have is the drivers seat belt is a pain to connect.

I really like the Altima. I would take it over the Chrysler 200, Chevy Malibu, Mazda6, Subaru Legacy and Toyota Camry. The 2015s are also much more reliable then the 13s and 14s.
