In this video I explain how annotative dimensions works.
They are great when we print a drawing with viewports in different scales.
Basically, the sizes that we edit in the dimmension style manager, are exactly what will be in the paper when we print.
Contents:
-Edit annotative dimensions
-Create a special layer for dimension lines (command DIMLAYER)
-Draw annotative dimension lines
-scale 1:100
-scale 1:30
-Show and hide annotation objects
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post :).
Alternatively, you can send me an e-mail to: cadinblack@gmail.com

The video shows the version 2013 of AutoCAD® and it is used exclusively for educational purposes.

But what to do if I dont want to bother about printing scale at the start of drawing or during drawing. Many time I print in A4 size paper using print-> window. It doesnt need layout option. Is there any option to set annotation object to be printed in 3mm actual size in any scale which I dont want to predefine ?

dimstyle>modify>primary unit>measurement scale>Scale factor> put 1000. It will display your meter measurements multiplying with 1000. But actual size of drawing will not change. Be carefull while writing scale at the time of printing.

@@CADinblack I was just not using annotative objects at all. I'm self taught and I never realized the importance of them. When I made viewports, I even zoomed in them using a scale parameter, I feel so silly now. Really, thanks a lot. By the way, I do have a question. I usually work with meters, and I discovered my AutoCAD has a small library with these annotative blocks where you can put the title of the sheet, section and so on, but they are in milimeters and do not scale accordingly when I put them into a drawing in meter units. Do you know how to fix this?

@CADinblack
@CADinblack 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Waseem. Thanks for your question. In several countries (mainly English spoken countries) the most common units used are Imperial units (inches and feet). In the rest of the wolrd it's most common the metrical system (meters, milimeters).

Annotation and Scaling give me headaches.
@JohnFekoloid
@JohnFekoloid 4 жыл бұрын
I started off with AutoCAD 14 in 1998. But this damn annotation scaling gave me so much headache. I quit AutoCAD all together and moved on to other 3D packages, Revit and Inventor. They're more difficult to learn tough, BUT they don't mess about with annotation scaling. You just select dimensions and place and it remains same size on the print view.
