So in that first step where you scaled it down, should I just draw my block smaller than it really is or what? What is the rule of thumb for the initial size of drawing the symbol? I know there is some leeway here.

This tutorial is about annotation but for blocks. Basically, what you set is the size that you want to show on your paper when you print. Then you have to select the scale of your viewport. You can watch also this tutorial about annotation, maybe it helps

Hi. Thx for the video. But what if i draw in metric units?

I tried this, but when inserting the block a second time, it does not automatically come with the scale list attached to it. So each time I insert the block, I have to go into the properties of EACH of them to add the different scales. How do you make it so that this scale list (1:1, 1:50, 1:100, 1:200) is already attached to the block upon insertion?

@Richard Melchor Yes! In the taskbar along the bottom, there are three icons related to annotation scale. (They kind of look like radioactive symbols). Make sure they're all "on" or blue. This will automatically add a scale to your blocks whenever you change the scale. If your blocks are showing a "preview" of all the possible scales, you can turn this off by setting the system variable SELECTIONANNODISPLAY to zero. That way you will only see the blocks at the current scale. Another thing I just figured out is that when you reposition your blocks in a different scale, be SURE to move them using the grips, not the move command. That way you will only move the block in that particular scale. One last thing... if you find that your block's base point is wonky from moving it mulitple times in multiple scales, you can reset the block's base point. Just get the block into the position (and angle) you want, then run the command ANNORESET. That should fix any issues with blocks in other scales getting moved off into space.

FYI, it is VERY important that you create your block while the drawing scale is set to 1:1. If you have it set to any other scale, then the size will be off when you go to set the drawing scale to something other than 1:1.

Thanks, but... when I change the scale of my drawing to 1: 50, my block turns into a giant... I followed your steps one by one

Hello Jesus! In each step did it happen? On the layour or when you created a block using the annotative option?

This happened to me a couple of times, and it was because I accidentally created the block while the drawing was set to 1:50. You HAVE to set your drawing to 1:1 while creating the block or the scale won't be right. (There were a few times where I had to draw my shapes in 1:50, then I switched the scale to 1:1 and rescaled the objects I drew X 0.02 before turning it into a block.

Hello, I’m having the same issue. I created it in 1:1 but the moment I go to my viewport and change the scale to all of the assigned scales I have on the block, it comes out extremely big. What am I missing?

How to stop Annotative preview Scaling? The AutoCAD variable SELECTIONANNODISPLAY controls this behavior. To turn the preview off follow the steps below: On the AutoCAD command line, enter selectionannodisplay When prompted to enter a new value, enter 0
