Kevin, thanks for the comments and questions. Most of my videos are aimed at users who are using certain functions for the first time and so the content is introductory and the videos relatively short. Most of my clients fall into this category of user and that's the type of user I aim the videos at. Having said that, VISRETAIN and also issues relating to paper space layer states would be good topics for an additional video. Regarding layers, the ones in this example (not my own) are alphabetical, my own preference is for incorporating naming protocols outlined by British Standards incorporating CISFB classification rather than Uniclass. I'm assuming that you already know how to use VISRETAIN and edit states, why not make a video on these topics yourself?

Thank you for replying. I certainly appreciate that you are taking your audience into account. I must be an intermediate user, I have been trying to learn to use Layer States in paper space viewports to get a handle on loosing my layer states and viewport layer information when I switch VISRETAIN from 1 to 0 to 1, trying to include new layer information from the base model files. Thus the search on KZfaq. Maybe once I think I have it figured out, I will consider attempting my first ever video. Best Wishes

I am surprised that you did not address how to edit existing layer states and what happens when to the existing defined layer states if a layer is added or purged out? What about xrefs? You don't mention layer states in Paper Space? You don't discuss how layer states compares with visretain? Also, may I ask what layer naming convention you are using? Is it random?
