The aircraft is equipped with a helicopter-style collective pitch control to allow "jump" takeoffs. Take-offs are accomplished by powering the rotor system to 150% cruise rpm and then increasing collective rapidly to jump the aircraft into the air where it can then fly away.

This still needs a physical runway length but I live on a mountain top and the surrounding valleys will support all the horizontal airspace needed to acquire airspeed to obtain vertical lift. This works for me.

My first Air craft that I never got to fly was a Gyro copter. I guess I should just give up the flying dream and settle with an Air line ticket.

I'm nothing more than an airplane buff...but would it be safe to say that the idea is to get the rotor blades going without having to do the take off roll as with a typical gyroplane? Basically to harness the motor to the rotor also to provide higher lift at lower forward speeds? I love the design and the testing...very cool!

I wonder what the density altitude was on that day? It looks like it is struggling once the jump is made to accelerate to best climb speed. Never the less exciting to see.

Do you release the prerotator just as you are leaving the ground? I see you hit the throttle at the moment of lift off. Is the prop providing enough air over the vertical stab to counter torque? I notice on some of your launches that you have quite q bit of right rudder in it.

Does it use rotor speed, collective rotor pitch, or both to pop off the ground like that?
