A really easy want to track trains in layout editors as they pass through the blocks when being controlled through the JMRI dispatcher tool. The train name will automatically appear next to the block that it's in and move from block to block as it's detected. This is really useful if you've got multiple trains moving on the layout.
This follows on from the previous video on automation using JMRI's dispatcher tool and layout editor. It's not essential that you've viewed this, but it might help. (Link here: • Model Railway Automati... )

Excellent! I have been searching all over to see how that is done! I found nothing in the documentation connected with Dispatcher that explained how to put that little block on the panel! This made my day!

I don't know. I spent weeks programming arduinos with IR sensors to do automated colours aspects and spent maybe £500 on digital solenoid controllers and servo systems only to find out I could have done it all for 99p. Hats off to you fella, thanks for demistifying JMRI and automation, your stream will now be a reference point. Once again a big thank you.

I feel your pain 😂 I've got a whole layout of expensive solenoids that I wish were servos. You live and learn though.

Very smart - looks good to have the train name appear at its current block location.

Hello This helped me out with my Dispatcher thanks for the information. On my Panel I see the Engine number plus more info example PRR 6101 (DCC 6101) that is what is showing that makes for a long name Question is how to remove (DCC XXXX) from the train name Another thing is my panel has track that's is vertical can I orientate the text to go that way? Thanks

Good morning, I found your various videos about using JMRI very interesting. You explain very well. Thanks to you, I now have great interest with the JMRI software. I used JMRI and Layout editor to draw my network and control my various switches and occupied blocks. Now it’s time to use the Warrants to control my trains. But, I have trouble running my warrants it is probably because I have warning when I try to create Oblocks in the Occupancy Blocks table, I think. I'm probably missing a step and I can't find it. I would like to know if you can help me. I would like to know the required step before the creation of the Oblocks. I have already completed these tables: Turnout, sensors, signal head, blocks and sections. On my computer layout, I can control the turnouts and sensor are working as expected, my heads signals works well. In the Occupancy Blocks window, when I import blocks as Occupancy blocks, In JMRI, I have warnings messages like this for every block. Portal “ IP0008-0010 “ has no path into block “B-801”. The path in these blocks exist. And, in the logs, they look like this: 11:02:17.831 (136740) WARN [AWT-EventQueue-0] TableFrames.java:321 - an OBlock with this user name already exists, replacing B-801 I do not know how to fix this problem, do you have an idea what I did wrong or what I didn’t do. thanks

Hi Jean, sorry for the delay getting back to you, I haven't had much luck with using warrants and Oblocks whicih is why I used transits and despatcher, so I'm probably not the best person to help here. However, there is a really active forum for JMRI (groups.io/g/jmriusers) so it's worth searching there for info or you can post your problem to see if anyone can help.

Thank you very much for your response, I will follow your advice and address my question to the JMRI forum. By the way, your table is very nice. Have a nice day Jean
