My first working attempt at automatic half-nut disengagement. First tests give .005" repeatability or better.

Winky gave me this link. It's clever and useful. It's also something that's going on my very long "To Do" list. I'm a retired EE/ET, so my old brain is leaning toward a 2 Solenoid design. One for the Compound and one for the Half Nut. My lathe is a 1965 Heavy 10. She was manufactured when I was 18 and knee deep in rice paddies. Compared to me,... the old girl is in great shape!😕 Wakodahatchee Chris

So cool! If I did enough single-point threading on the lathe I'd add it. 9" SBL-A

I recently did a little testing of repeatability. Out of ten runs, one was off .003, one .0025 and the rest were under .001. Armed with this info I was brave enough to test threading to a shoulder.

Very simple but effective design! Its so obvious when you see it. Probably very easy to fit on any kind of lathe.

Yea, most of my ideas are obvious once you see them. I keep expecting to be told it appeared in Popular Mechanics in 1947.

Nicely done! Smart thinking on the forced disconnect with the spring. I didn't even think of doing it that way.
