The TH 400 doesn’t have a cable, it’s vacuum modulated with electric kick-down

Hey Jake, thanks for posting this. I’ve got a question for you. I have a 1988 C1500 with a 5.7L 700R4. I’ve adjusted the TV cable per the factory recommended way like what you described. I found that it shifted early and early shifting is one of the main reasons for burning these transmissions up. That and towing in overdrive. I’ve slowly tightened the cable to where it shifts just right imo. Is there a way to know just exactly how this thing should be set? Todd

The way you just described is the way to do it. If it's shifting good for you and not short shifting or downshifting into 3rd with out a reasonable amount of throttle, you're good.

Upgrades? Use Sonnax parts, every one that's available for your unit, depending on what you use it for...

Hi. I need a little help…. I have a 700R4….. and I have to manually shift my over-drive and down shift to drive 3rd to 4th or from 4th to 3rd …. How can I make it automatically from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 3rd without manually shifting

That's a strange issue. First thing I'd check assuming fluid is full and all other shift points are "normal" would be throttle valve cable. Make sure it's adjusted correctly.
