The key to understanding AMS2's handling characteristics are rooted in the tires and how the ffb interprets self-aligning torque and slip angles. Naturally, self-aligning torque from the tires falls off prior to peak grip due to changes in the pneumatic trail, believe it or not. In AMS2 and in real life when this happens steering forces start to go light and a sensation of sliding occurs as the tires reach peak slip angle and grip. Although it may seem to feel this way, the tires in AMS2 are not actually sliding more than what one would expect at the point of peak grip. Typically 5-8% tire slip is the peak grip comfort zone. Anyone can confirm this with telemetry. Its the sensation vis-a-vis the ffb's interpretation of forces that is the most perceptible change for the player and may create an illusion of sliding, more than the slide itself. At the point of peak slip/grip, when the steering is light, the goal for the driver is to maintain neutral steer, and there are dynamic factors involved with that, including to a large degree, the cars natural balance, setup balance, state of the tires, state of the track surface (bumps, rubbering, wetness, debris) and in no small part, driver inputs themselves. In other words "driving on the edge" stands out. Its a sensation that a growing number of sim racers are beginning to enjoy, but are afraid to admit it because the overall reception of these dynamics are deemed to be less than realistic. The truth is they are wholly rooted in real life vehicle and tire dynamics, which is one of the advantages of a physical tire model. It can't be faked. Its just the sensation that is different. (Another area of note is the fact that historically, AMS2 has tended to be more driver friendly when going past peak slip/grip compared to other sims. This is true. This can be off-putting to sim racers used to a less forgiving model, but this is a matter of degree, current design and the staged development with the tire model. It has been correctly observed universally by the community as having been dialed in somewhat. What the future holds in this area remains to be seen, but its certainly close as is, but arguably be closer.) Ultimately, the above isn't meant to admonish anyone's preferences in the way they like their sim to express these types of things. Instead, simply to highlight that many of the behaviors of the cars and tire model that may seem unique to AMS2 are indeed based on real life vehicle dynamics. From the tire, to the springs, through the steering rack and finally through the FFB. Its simply AMS2s interpretation. Nevertheless, the conviction to improve all areas of physics remains a hallmark at Reiza, which I believe most of the community appreciates. Thanks for the video RCS, good faith criticism serves the community well, and can indeed be motivation for changes. Best of luck to you and thanks for your time.

@Steelcast27

@@randomcallsign they do. peak grip occurs with about 5-8% tire slip. You can probably push the rears past that though, depending on how aggressive you yaw the car on entry, but the point is, that its all past the SAT point so the feeling in the wheel is light while the tires are slipping. On high speed corners you can get the hybrids neutral steering for sure. Not as much as a skippy, but enough to feel it and feel good about it when getting it right.

The huge amount of tracks and especially the variable weather put it way above anything at the time. It looks a bit ropey these days though. On console we only have ACC which is great at what it does. Unfortunately it doesn't do much.

@@BongoBaggins Yup, plus Project Cars is playable on both a wheel and controller, whereas you pretty much need a wheel if you wanna play AC. Graphics are a bit dated these days, but the detail and accuracy in the car and track models is still pretty good, I think it's mainly the lighting and texture quality which look a little dated now. Definitely some headlight bugs at night and the draw distance on other vehicles is pretty bad imo, but still plays really well

The lateral movement in the turns arrived after the update that introduced tyre flex. I noticed it being more obvious in the faster cars like group c at Spa Historic, before that update you could yeet the car through T16 flat out but afterwards the tyre flex could cause the car to wobble side to side and could fling you off track.

The LMDH cars feel solid, not super dissimilar to how they feel on iRacing, or with the RSS on AC, in my opinion. The sounds are a little underwhelming, and the physics still throw me off sometimes. But if Reiza get some Hypercars as well, then LMU is practically obsolete to me. But to have up to date prototypes in the game is fantastic, they look amazing.

I agree on the GT3's needing a little love in AMS2 but giving Iracing the praise is kinda wild I won't lie. The GT3's in Iracing fall flat in comparison to ACC in regards to their sound, feeling and models. Only thing I dislike is the curbs in ACC however Iracing has it's own woes.

It's too bad the Old Mulsanne track wasn't included. My favorite challenge is running the Sauber C9 vs LMP1 in Project Cars 2, with the AI turned all the way up, but the physics are better and there's no stuttering in AMS 2. Buenos Aires #12 or Bathurst 1983 in a C9 against anyone, anytime.

I'm not a fan of the GT3-cars in AMS2, but I don't like GT3-cars in ACC, iRacing and rF2 as well because they all do some BS I don't see in onboards. Actually the Audi GT3 in Forza feels the best and it's a beast😀What I prefer about AMS2 is, that ridiculous oversteer-setups won't work in terms of laptimes like they do in ACC and iRacing. And there are also more ways than one to be fast, but to be fair: GT3-cars seems also odd IRL and I would probably suck.

I believe historic versions will follow, I'm sure I saw that suggested when Le Mans was first announced. I suspect they wanted to get this track in game before LMU was released. I've not followed much about that game, I'd certainly be interested in it but given recent history I'd be slightly worried that the company will go tits up and you end up with a game needing patches but no longer getting any support.

Personally I would pay to have all GT3 cars removed from AMS2 and for that matter every other driving game/sim and give them all to ACC. They are the most boring pointless cars to race ever. However, many like them, so each to their own. I think the two Le mans tracks are excellent and I cannot wait for the historical versions to join historical Monza 10k and Spa in AMS2 as the best tracks so far to drive and race.
