I own a 2000 CRV 5spd AWD with 331k miles. bought it for a grand a year and a half ago. most reliable vehicle ive owned

I was a die-hard American car fan, but I got tired of sitting on the side of the rode in my brand new Ford/Mercury/Chrysler, etc. And I also got tired of being treated miserably and ripped off by every single car dealership mechanic. 7 years ago, I paid $5k for a 2000 CRV with 98k miles. Now, at 167k miles, she chugs along as cheerfully as ever. Hands down, the absolute most unbelievably reliable freaking car ever, and the least expensive to fix/maintain. I’ve been terrible at keeping up with maintenance, but I love my lil ‘Anna Honda’, and from now on will ‘do her right’.

I've owned my '98 CRV for 24 years (and 296K miles) and although I've also owned other Hondas the V has proven to be the most reliable of the bunch. Not that any of my other Hondas weren't reliable but the first gen V's are just crazy reliable if maintained properly with rule #1 being to check/adjust the valves every 40K miles or so. I've found checking them at 30K to be overkill so I eventually stretched the interval to 40K...and then I stretched it to 50K with zero issues. I finally had to replace the factory original starter around six months ago with a rebuilt Denso unit. I still have the original alternator but I DID replace the brushes around five years ago. I also still have the original fuel pump. All of my power window motors still work great except for the driver's door which is sluggish but I just pull on it as I'm pushing the button which isn't a big deal to me since I'm the only one who drives it these days. I also love it's functionality with the rear cargo door having the window and door working independently from each other which is HUGE when I've had to bring home long boards from Home Depot and Lowes. I can't do that in my '05 Pilot. Your vid is spot-on but I would like to add two more trouble spots...1) the rear fenders start to rust around the 15 year mark if you live in an area which uses road salt. 2) the wiring entering the front door starts to short-out after awhile...around the 15 year mark in my case.

98 5-speed AWD with 142k miles. bought it 2 years ago, replaced the timing belt, water pump, and motor mounts. No issues since, love the car.

I bought a 2000 CRV 10 years ago with 119K miles on it. It now has 230K. Other than routine maintenance, I haven't had anything done to it. It isn't the fastest, flashiest, or most luxurious vehicle that I've ever had, but I never doubt when I get in and turn the key, that it will take me as far as I'm going and bring me back.

I got my 99 from my neighbor, who drove it for several years with the CEL on and a burnt valve. I got it for 200$, did a complete head job, and a full tune up and fluid change, and she runs like brand new again. Now 2 years later he wants to buy it back cause his Subaru just crapped out...

I bought my first car which is a 2001 CRV with only 104k miles! Only had valve adjustments and oil change but other than that I absolutely love my car. I appreciate the video, I will definitely check my car here and there.

I bought my 2000 CRV back in 2003, it had almost 50,000 miles on it at that time. It has 193,000 miles now. It is such a great car, still very reliable.

I bought one years ago for $3k and it had 70k miles on it. The AWD system was amazing the storage was great it came with factory jungle lights surf racks and it got great gas mileage. I truly miss this car and it was so fun to drive and looked damn cool. I’ve seen some of these with extreme modifications and they are awesome. I had some issues with it but it never left me stranded

In July 2023 I bought a 1999 Automatic CRV one owner in AZ , with a like new interior and exterior that is nearly flawless. It was garage kept with 118K original miles and the maintenance records were included. The only thing that does not work is the clock. I also owned the AWD 1999 CRV that I purchased new in 2000 and drove it 8 years then gave it to my son and he drove it 16 and a half years. (I moved overseas and missed that vehicle) It lasted so long and was so reliable that I purchased the other one last year when I found it online at a Major Dealer in Phoenix.

My 1997 CR-V is the best car I've ever owned. My father bought it used in 2005 then gave it to me around 2014. I think it had 185k. It now has 225k and it drives like a new car. I expect to get another 100k at least.

I own a 2001 CR-V SE with 195k miles and it runs amazing. I do have issues with the front shocks and tie rods, but I will replace those next weekend. I change the motor oil every 3k miles and transmission as well as the rear differential oils every 50k miles. The valves have been adjusted twice and will be adjusted here in the next few months. I love my CR-V, it still looks really nice with exception of the driver seat torn. Made just a few upgrades as in the radio in Bluetooth and some nice Alpine speakers, tinted the rear window, and the shocks and tie rods will be our next upgrades.

I have a 2000 honda crv 5spd awd with 566,000kms. Love it. Was my first car. About to retire it after this winter but was definitely the best 1400$ ive ever spent.

Still have our ‘98. Only 145,000 miles. Was my wife’s daily for 20+ years then our youngest son’s daily when in college. Now it’s my daily. Other than regular maintenance only a couple of what I would call major work. Getting it repainted soon!

I have 99 CRV with 225k miles and climbing. Its been really reliable for the past 3yrs. I usually check valve clearance every other oil change. Rear trailing arm bushing and Rear wheel bearings are going out so thats my project for this summer.

Its definitely more like a suv to me than a car...high enough off the ground, more space and opening back door. The power lacks a bit in the engine but I'll take that lack of power for the great gas mileage I get with it. It's a good small gas suv. It's for some but not all. It's fine enough to pull my boat and ride in snow and carry tools

I got a 2000 CR-V, 4WD... I recently replaced the engine (the engine came with too many issues that a new engine was way more cost effective than fixing it all), I had a B20Z, now I got a B20B Japanese high compression engine. It has served very well so far. I need to replace the rear trail arm bushings. I also have to work on the transimission, but it is still running fine... Just a leak on the power sterring pump that I havent take care of yet, but I know Hondas suffer from power steering pump leaks.

My 2001 had a burnt valve so I got a killer deal. I pulled the Head and had a machine shop Rebuild the head. Now I am having oil leaks so I will be doing the oil pan soon. Great video ☺️

All black 99 Cr-v here, mainly stock running smooth as ever with 360k miles 🍻! Replaced the crankshaft sensor, distributor, belt, 2 upper control arms and 2 new tires. Aside from that, everything has been SOLID. Bought it Super cheap, and spent about $900 total, 3+ years ago!

I’ve had a lot of cars thru out my yrs brand new to used and I now have a Honda crv 01 and I can say it’s by far my favorite vehicle ever!!! Sooooo reliable and very spacious the kids absolutely love it when I’ve done road trips it’s perfect with the seats able to recline all the way down into a bed and that’s what me and my wife usually do when road tripping is sleep in the car bc it’s that comfortable I suggest to all that if you need a vehicle fast and low in price get a used crv it’s soooo worth it I paid $1700 for mine and has taken me from IL to border of PA/NJ and back plenty of times with no problems

I'm interested in buying a 1st gen crv or a rav4 for my first car. I've adored the 1st gens since a child. Plus Crvs and Rav4 2010 and above are crazy expensive.

The first production batch of CR-V is very durable. You have to note the damage and fix it very practically. Like & sub to you.

CR-V may not be fun to drive, but it's easy to fix and is reliable.

00:18, The engine in the pic is a B20Z which had 147hp. The low compression engine didn't have that style manifold.

Between my brother and I, we've had 5 of them. My '99 has 303k (bought it in 2005), my '01 has 242k, and his '98 has 265k. My '97 had 220k and the '98 I had was at 355k last time I saw it. The OE alternator on the '99 lasted 296k miles. A/C compressor made it to 298k. Adjust the valves. Keep an eye on the front upper control arms and rear trailing arm bushings. Water can creep onto the passenger floor thru the blower fan intake if the inner fender drains get plugged with debris. Definitely keep up on the diffetlrential fluid. I've hard-wired both the front doors on my '99 due to the wires pulling out of the pass-through connector. That and the motor mounts tend to wear out pretty frequently, ESPECIALLY the front lower mounts. Lastly, yeah the dash-mounted clock has been dead on all but my '97, which is probably because my '97 didn't even come with one. Your aftermarket stereo should have a clock on it anyways so shouldn't even matter. It's all small stuff. Some of it just annoyances. I've had a few of these for a reason.

I have a 2001 AWD. It is definitely having a lot of these issues now. I'm thinking of getting rid of it specifically because the AC is out and I've heard of black death. From the sounds of what you're saying this is more towards the 2nd gen? Car has 198K and it has been a great car but not sure if it is worth putting the money into anymore.

i got 1996 crv awd with over 260k on it i got it for 1200$ few years back only had to do oil changes for trans/engine also i did spark plugs, not for any reason other then they had never been changed.

I own two of them I have a 98 auto with 250k miles runs great owned it for 6 years and a 2000 manual with 180k miles I’ve owned for 2 years and feels like a new car… also note you do not have to drop the crank to fix a rear main seal but you do have to remove the transmission

Reliable vehicle for all types of terrain. Remember to service periodically and remembering the valves need adjustment every 30000 km. I am enjoying the ride every day.

These are great cars. One thing not noted in this video is the Idle Air Control Valve. It can fail and cause the car to idle low or high. Sometimes it is not broken but just needs the air purged out of the coolant lines to function. I also has a tiny screen that can get clogged up with soot and will just need a cleaning. If you do need to replace it, good luck! Honda doesnt make them anymore and I've personally (and heard on the internet) had terrible experiences with the common auto parts store brands. One straight up didnt work at all and made the problem worse. I managed to get the original working properly for now. Try to get honda genuine parts if you can and ALWAYS use honda genuine fluids in the transmissions and differential.

Had an 04 Civic blow a timing belt on me. Talk about an expensive fix :')

It's about as solid as it gets. The motor and transmission are good. Just make sure you do valve adjustments so you font burn a valve and you're good.

I got my 2001 Honda CR-V with 133,000 miles I replaced belts, engine mounts, and cat...also had the valve adjustment and the engine is so quiet now

These cars are fairly easy to maintain and drives forever. If you are planning to service the engine with all it's internal seals and gaskets, water pump, timing belt overhaul. Buy a separate long block and overhaul service it while it's out of the car to a machine shop. It's fairly easy to swap in the long block in and out. especially when the long block itself is pretty cheap. then it'll drive for thousands of miles even more. It's more convenient imo that way. Since you're already tearing the whole engine inside apart.

I have an 02 mk2 crv. It has 185k miles on the clock. I have absolutely battered it, ramped it, crashed it into things for fun, skidded it round most corners, done money shots, pulled 18 tonnes and have it in the redline all the time. I honestly don't know how it still lives.

Great video question when I looked it up, we used that one years ago, but thinking about buying another. One said it had a timing chain that does that should last the length of the motor I guess unless the timing chain gets expanded or something saying it’s got a belt wheremodels when I’m looking at it is a 2001 so I’ll have to look it up on good old Google again thank you

You’re mistaken in thinking the transmission routine you describe cleans the filter. When you drain transmission, the oil in torque converter does not drain. This is the thinking of doing the three changes with minimal driving in between. After the third the oil is ( almost) all fresh…. This will not clean the inline filter. Honda say it’s not a service item, but some people replace them every 100 thousand miles ish.

1st Gen Honda CR-V's also has a spark plug problem to which requires replacing them every 50,000 miles to prevent head damage to the spark plug hole threads.

I have a 2001 Crv. Went to an alpine lake last weekend. Access was off a paved road but the drive up was very steep. Steering wheel started to shake when driving off the mountain while breaking, any help with this issue would be great

Ive got a 2000 crv and the only main problems are that (somehow) it jumped a tooth on both cam gears, the transmission line is pinched, and the steering rack is a bit uh....broken. otherwise there hasnt been any other problems

Wipes and paint dont last for trim either. You have to remove all moisture with a heat gun before putting a coating over it to prevent more moisture from getting in
