SYMPTOMS OF BAD PURGE VALVE. HOW TO KNOW PURGE VALVE IS BAD
In this video we are going to explain the symptoms of a bad purge valve. Purge valve can fail in a few ways. The purge valve can be stuck open, stuck close, and not working correctly ( opening as it should). The purge valve could be easy to diagnose if you have engine code such as P0443 or code P0444 but sometimes the purge valve can send a signal to the engine computer that it is working but actually it is not working correctly. Also, you can develop purge valve leak / vacuum leak that is extremely hard to diagnose because the engine may throw codes for engine misfires and rough idles when actually all you have is a vacuum leak. Bad purge valve can lead to hard engine starts as well.

Hello my friend, can this valve make the car open ABS? I was drivine played with bjg lights and suddenly abs popped, car reduced speed and engine light opened. I did a diagnostic and the problem is this valve. I played again with big lights and again the same thing, Abs poped and car slowed speed. What do you think? Can this valve affect abs?

I don’t have any lights indicating that there is any problem but do you think that changing the purge valve could potentially help with the rotten egg smell I’m getting when I rip it also do you think it’s something I should change based on mileage I’m also getting poor gas mileage

He described EXACTLY what is wrong with my vehicle and I've also confirmed this with my best friend who is also a mechanic. At first I thought it was bad gas, my coil pack going out, and my O2 sensors going out. I just changed the valve and cleared the code with my friends code reader and it instantly started running better and idling better. And the light hasn't come back on so I can get it inspected now! Thank you!!

Awesome. I have a 2010 hyundai elantra and it’s doing the same thing, rough idling, and hesitant take off but once I get going it’s not so bad. Throwing the same codes too. I’m gonna go change it today and see if that’s the issue.

Hi guys, thanks for the useful video! Studied what "purge valve" really is. In older cars it was the same system)) - fuel tank ventilation. Just hose on a tank with non return valve on the end of it. Thanks for the new word combinations I studied in English 👍: -Purge valve - клапан продувки (бака); -Engine misfire - пропуски зажигания двигателя ("двигатель троИт"); -Stuck close (open) - заклинил в закрытом (открытом) положении. My 2001 Jeep TJ throws a P0455. I was proud of myself when I fixed a loose vent hose at the filler neck. The code returned. I replaced the gas cap. The code returned. I found a section of the vent pipe that was rusted through above and behind the driver's side rear shock and repaired that. The code returned. Thanks to your explanation that a purge valve stuck open imitates a vacuum leak that causes hard starting (and mine cranks longer than it should especially in the morning), I now know to check my purge valve. Thanks for the help, brother - you definitely earned my subscription.

I like to thank you so much for your video. I own a Toyota corolla 2005 with 267k. I have been having all the problems that you had mention on this video. I had spend hundreds of dollars trying to diagnostic the problem for the past four years. I also had gone to four different mechanics and they could never figure out what seemed to be the problem. I even bought a new computer for the car, thinking it was it. I was to the point of getting ride off and pass to someone else not to deal with. I also been trying to do my homework on watching videos like yours to see if I could find the solution. Until one day I came across your video, I decided to give my last shot. You were right on. I as getting P0170, 0038, 00136 and was about to replace the MAF and Downstream O2 sensor and all it was was a pin sized hole in the 6 inch vacuum hose from the Purge Valve to the intake manifold. You saved me hundreds of dollars and hours of time. Fixed it for under $5 and in under an hour of time. BRILLIANT VIDEO.

Thank you very much, it solved my rough idle issue on my Mazda B3000. I've already spent $440 trying to fix this rough idle. I've been told i needed a new fuel pump, fuel injector cleaning and using expensive premium fuel.

Hey guys thank you for all the videos of repairs on the 2004 330ci. I have one also I have replaced a lot of parts on this car within the past year. I've replaced the idle control valve and it still has a rough idle and bogs when I press the accelerator, and still throwing the codes P1504 and P1508 what am I doing wrong. I've taken everything back off. When I put everything back on tomorrow I'll take a video of it running so you can hear it.

If you can get an owner/car yard with the manufacturers OBD2 scanner they can usually test, by actuating, the operation of the EVAP canister purge and vent solenoids. My car also with a normal OBD2 scanner can tell the result of the cars own EVAP testing which it does on its own when the car is turned off. I'm not sure how it tests, but I guess it tests if the EVAP canister holds pressure when valve shut etc... ALSO I gather if the EVAP canister is old/faulty and doesn't hold the level of fuel vapors the ECM expects that too will give a Lean?

Please talk about the PO425 code. I am currently replacing the purge valve canister; but, would like to hear your reasoning and logic for the PO425 problem tracing. When you talked about the codes for the canister you did not mention the PO425. I am wondering if I am on the wrong track.

What is the relay to the purge valve is not working? Will that be the same as the scenario you described when the purge valve is continuously open? Have a car with a missing fuse to the purge and it has problems starting, sometimes it just cranks and does not start, other times it start but cannot speed up to 130km/hr. Any thoughts on the issues is much appreciated.

Do you think it could throw a camshaft or crank shaft position sensor as well? Mine has thrown multiple codes. Ive changed the spark plugs. And crankshaft and camshaft position sensors. Still rough idle amd weird acceleration. Im hearing a vacuum leak sound around the purge solenoid your talking about amd felt it. I can feel it ticking but lots pf noise from back there. The line maybe leaking like you say

I have a 2016 Ford F-150 with an intermittent rough idle and stalling issue. What do you believe could be the cause. There are no codes and it could happen everyday for weeks or happen 1-2 times a month
