Thank you for a very clear and detailed instructional video! I was able to follow your steps on my own 2010 Forester with confidence and did a good (if far messier than you managed!) job of changing the oil and filter. Thanks for taking the time to film & edit this video to share your knowledge with the rest of us!

Thanks. Used this to do the maintenance on my car, however the previous mechanic used the power of god to tighten the oil filter so I had to get a tool to loosen it. Other than that, easy sailing.

Is it alright to use 15w-40 if I live in a hot climate and do alot of highway driving?

What is the number on the filter cause i need to buy one so i can change the oil

Is 5w40 better than 0w20 (recommended on manual) for Subaru Forester 2010-2011?
@crocodile200611 ай бұрын
Depends on where you live... hot climates always go for thicker oil. Having said that these engines tend to throw bearings so thicker the better.

Do you have to or should you always change the drain plug washer when you change your oil?
@TinaMarieWilliams3 жыл бұрын
No
@michaelbrennan71483 жыл бұрын
I've heard you should change at every oil change. Its a crush washer for 1x use You can buy a pack of 10 on line

At 108k miles that engine is due for a timing belt replacement. Factory recommends it at 105k.
@michaelbrennan71483 жыл бұрын
I have an 09 Forester. I had timing belt done at 140k. I try to not drive Forester hard. I stay up to date on oil changes . I now have 190k miles. I had not done head gasket. I also needed some front end suspension work and cv joint work. I cannot do this work. I took it to dealership. They charge a lot but the work is garunteed for 1 year. Goes down the road much quieter now. Take care.
@yamati1503 жыл бұрын
@@ryanbowden9904 I think the Forester is a great vehicle, except for the timing belt issues and I'd own one except that of the 5 I test drove, 4 had blown head gaskets. I so wanted one, but instead bought a gen 1 RAV4.

How many miles before you change the oil for your car? And what about the difference between winter and summer?
@@douglassong1732 I don't get butthurt when someone tells me to read the manual.

For anyone who is tempted like me to always over tighten, the torque I found is 31 lbs-ft for the 2010 Subaru Forester. pdf4pro.com/cdn/engine-oil-drain-plug-torque-chart-1997-2016-71da5.pdf Also, using a ziplock bag while removing oil filter was another useful tip I found :-)
