I wish all technicians were as detailed as you. I know most don't care about the car they are working on as it's just a work order for them. I like how methodical you are

I'm going to try this soon as I don't want to pay $1300 to fix leak on my $5000 car. Thank you so much for the detailed video!

Excellent video. Mechanics rip off people who don't have a clue. One guy quoted me $1800.00 to fix this with a new vacuum pump. I bought the gasket from RKX for $30 and didn't let the mechanic rip me off. Unsuspecting people get ripped off every day. Be wise not otherwise!

How has that gasket held up since you installed it? I have to replace mine and was questioning if I should get the kit or just replace the whole thing since I have to take everything apart anyway.

Thank you! I think I could accomplish this for my 2011 Jetta. I’ve just been living with the issue for years because it’s way too costly. Update: Success! Your video was indispensable. I did have to check out your video on engine cover removal as mine was pretty hard to get off. Thanks again.

The four Torx 20 bolts that fasten the front cover pump do have a torque spec. It is 10 nm (7 ft lb). The torque spec for the bolts that fasten the vacuum pump to the cylinder head is also 10 nm (7 ft lb). These specs are per RKX Tech- the gasket kit manufacturer. Most of the VW 2.5 engines that have leaking vacuum pumps are from the orange gasket shown above in the video. When people replace the gasket and shortly after discover that the vacuum pump leaks again is because the inside part of the cover wasn't thoroughly cleaned of the old gasket residue and oil and/or the bolts weren't torqued to spec and/or the channel where the orange gasket seats into wasn't cleaned thoroughly of the leaking oil. I find it disgusting that a VW dealership will charge you up to $2500 when they perform the fix that was shown above in the video!! 🤨🤨 The dealership does NOT remove the transmission like they like to say to justify the $2500.

I had this replaced two years ago and it is leaking again. It is what it is, sometimes they last, sometimes they don’t. Anyway, a simple 20 min job for a $15 gasket every two years really isn’t much to complain about when the job to replace the booster pump is easily $1500. These cars are getting old, it’s not worth putting so much money into them. Great video friend!

Thanks for your video. You can see there are three gaskets in your repair kit. After repair, make sure all the three places on the pump are not leaking. And most IMPORTANT, you can still see oil dripping under your car for three weeks. I even doubted that my rear main seal was broken. Actually it's the oil outside of the engine. You just need to wait.

I have a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta with 240,000 km on it. I also have a leak from the vacuum pump. I ordered the new gasket kit, and I will try and change the seal on it this weekend. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!

If you remove the battery and tray it's easier to get to the 4 bolts and you'll have a much better chance to get the new gasket to seat properly.

Nice video. I purchased a '06 Jetta 2.5 with 134,000 km in Oct 2024. I've watched three other videos on KZfaq (two replacing the vacuum pump and one like yours but replaced both gaskets) . The manual transmission is easier to deal with as there is no shifter in the way. Although my car is 19 years old, I don't have an oil leak and the car is in great shape but I'll buy the gasket kit to keep in reserve just in case!

Another common problem is the PCV diaphragm kit which is easy to put on but hard to install correctly without air leak and test it before it create bigger engine problem!!!

If you replaced the gasket in the front but you are still leaking a lot under the pump, could it be the metal gasket between the pump and where it attaches? Seems unlikely that a metal gasket would fail but I’m also not sure.

My friend Petr, I hope you do not believe I was the one to say you did it the wrong way. I would never say that to you. Last time I said something similar I meant I wished to see your way because it might be better than my way and I can learn from it. But I never want you to believe I am calling your way wrong. I like your videos and company. If anything I mean it so we have more time with you.

Perfect presentation of your work and very informative, The engine also have common oil leak problem around the oil filter housing. Is possible that the same oil traveled around the oil filer housing and blame the the housing seal too? . Please continue more.

Good day Sir. So how much did you torque the bolts down? "Good n tight"? Or is there a torque value? Did this fix the problem permanently or did the leak come back? Thanks

If the new gasket doesn't work and the pump is still leaking, next step should be to replace the whole pump no?

Great video! I had done a repair in the past where I just used some RTV over the original gasket. It worked, but didn't last, the leak came back. I purchased the gasket set and did the replacement of just the cover gasket. Now, the power brakes are not working at all. Not at all. Everything was fine before with the brakes. I pulled the cover again. The new gasket looked fine. I put some high temp grease on the cover and bolted it back up. Still no power brakes. The only other thing I did was remove the brake reservoir cap and look inside. Any thoughts as to what happened would be greatly appreciated.
