I love this time of the Autumn Equinox, coming in to balance. It is a great time to make Fire Cider Vinegar in preparation for the coming winter. The recipe is below.

FIRE CIDER RECIPE
You will need a large jar, Kilner jar or Mason jar. Size dependant on how much you want to make. Chop up onions and garlic, chilli peppers and grate horse radish and ginger and place all in jar. As I did not have chilli peppers I added ground chilli pepper. I also added some Cayenne pepper and some fresh Thyme because I like to add those herbs and spices for extra immune boosting. Once everything is chopped and grated and in the jar, cover with organic Apple Cider Vinegar and leave for one month.
After the month, strain and take a tablespoon of vinegar off the spoon, or add to a cup of warm water each morning as a preventative. You can also pour a little over vegetables, add to salad dressings, add to soups and stews and casseroles. It is very tasty, spicy and is a great winter tonic. Enjoy!

Thank you Terri and Lol and happy dogs! I’m going to make this! And thanks to Rosemary Gladstar for defending folk medicines. Years ago, in Canada, the federal government attempted to prohibit growing and propagation of herbs. Obviously some corporate entity lobbied (funded) to control and own herb rights. Petitions were started and signed and sent to government. All this happened from small independent health food shops and a small segment of population who were considered “alternative.” The whole idea was quashed, the right to grow herbs and make natural remedies was preserved. It’s not just in Canada that natural remedies are being discouraged , it is everywhere. I am glad I live up North (Yukon) where I can pick plenty of clean flowers, plants etc to make my own natural remedies. The pharmaceutical industry continues to have way too much power, it is very sad and scary.

Happy Birthday to you Terri. I made Rosemary Gladstar's Fire Cider recipe last year, and NEVER AGAIN will I shred horseradish without wearing swim goggles! I still have a bottle in my fridge. It is a great thing to have and to use. I will add thyme to my next Fire Cider. I also made a sage oxymel (this year). Your new flooring is beautiful. Happy Equinox to you and Lol. I work in education and all the students and staff get sick this time of year. I’ve been making Fire Cider Vinegar and taking it over the autumn/winter season for three years now and for the exact same amount of time I haven’t caught the freshers flu (as they call it) No coincidence hey? I would never be without it. Just wish I could persuade my colleagues to take it so I don’t have to be the one at work doing everyone’s job while they recover. Haha! I just LOVE the taste and take it by the spoon but also have it on salads and in soups at the end of cooking.

Ooh yes! I got Rosemary Gladstar's fire cider book for Christmas last year, which I really loved (apart from the whole saga with the court case). Happy Birthday! I was a teacher too and my birthday is end of August and during week before start of school! I've been making Firecider for years - got recipe from Rosemary. My grandmother made a similar concoction she called "The Remedy" an old New England tradition. She grew up on a farm and they made their own "medicine" back then. Hi Danu! Happy Birthday (a bit belated) and Happy Autumnal Equinox, my favorite time of year also. If you burn a nice wide candle while you chop/peel any of the Alliums and Horse Radish, it will vaporize the volatile compounds and it helps with the tears! Have a beautiful day!

OH my Happy Birthday to you and many more!!! My birthday misses Yule by 3 days as I am a 12/25/1955 --on xmas is funny for this witch. The seasons always have been central to me as well. This season starts the spiral within and then Yule starts the light coming back to us all. I love both this and Spring, but Living in Florida I get such a short spring and fall season so they are kind of special. Gardener, Blacksmith, and Mother here.

Happy Belated Birthday! Fall has always been my favorite time of year. The leaves on my trees in my yard have already started changing into their lovely red and gold colors. Ginger is the herb I decided to learn more about this year so planted some this past spring. I'll have a nice harvest of it in a few weeks. Looks like the Fire Cider Vinegar is excellent and replaces all of the over the counter cold/flu meds that have way too many side effects. Thanks for sharing that with us.

👍I remember 4 yrs ago you had part 2 fire cider vinegar. I’ve been making it ever since. Thyme is used as thymol Iisterine which is thyme for those who don’t know for antibacterial properties. It is my fav as well. Love your oxymel recipe for winter is great. Old fashioned remedies are best I believe more than chemical syrups and pills made today thanks for sharing

Not sure if you're aware, after Rosemary Gladstar won the lawsuit she published a book, "Fire Cider! 101 Zesty Recipes for Health-Boosting Remedies Made with Apple Cider Vinegar" including fire cider recipes from many herbalists and enthusiasts. It's a wonderful reference. I found a copy on Amazon US. Next year I'm adding thyme to my fire cider! Have a lovely week!

I understand the feeling bc my birthday is always in the first week of Advent, sometimes (like this year) it was on the first Sunday of Advent. It’s basically like the Catholic New Year as they reset the liturgical calendar, and the religious beginning of the Christmas season.
