The whole "Aang's Armor" is actually a prank from one of the writers of the show. Because when Nickelodeon wanted to make Merchandise for ATLA, they were like "and we could make an armor for Aang!!" and the creators were like "ehmmm no". So I think it's Michael who created this part about Aang's armor on the episode to make this idea look utterly ridiculous

Sokka had always been the worst, combat-wise. However, that is compared to three benders, which masked the actual progress he made. What has in fact been happening, is that all this time Sokka had kept being a valuable member, which meant he was getting better to keep up with the others. As a result, Sokka has become one of the better non-bender fighters without anyone actually noticing. The training in this episode was actually honing all the experience he gained throughout the journey.

Yeah, you can definitely see that the White Lotus Society (or at least, it's members) transcends the division of nations. I know it wasn't in the cut, but I love what Piandao said about knowledge of the art not belonging to any one nation. It's just very open-minded and non-prejudice and you could say that this perfectly describes what the society is all about, despite the continued mystery surrounding it. I think Sokka was always intelligent and creative and he just needed someone like Piandao to show him that. BUFF IROH IS LOVE

I love how Sokka's training is less about making him a skillful master and more about getting him to think creatively on the battlefield. Ultimately it makes a swordsman that is more Link than Jedi and it makes sense why he could become a master of this style in a few days as opposed to years of rigorous training.

So, two things. 1. Man at arms made a legit Sokka Sword, complete with meteorite. Check it out. 2. (Slight SPOILERS) Sokka sword fights Zuko in the comics, which was hilarious because he kept yelling "Sword bending!" the entire time.

This episode was so good! I loved it how they gave Sokka his own episode kind of and just showed how valuable he is to the Gaang even though he has no bending abilities he keeps everyone together with his "Sokkasm" and his jokes and everything and you can see that Aang Katara and Toph don't really know what to do without him, shows how Sokka is still important even though he can't bend, and now he's a badass swordsman, I can't wait for the next episodes though The Beach, The Avatar and Fire Lord and on it just gets so good!

Master Piandao was inspired by the show's martial arts instructor (Sifu Kisu)

Two fun facts about this episode Blind Wave: -that armor Aang was in while they were shopping has a backstory. Before this episode was made, Nickelodeon executives went to the shows creators and asked them if they could draw Aang in some armor so they could make a toy out of it. That crazy armor was the response they gave to them 😂 -sokka's masters character design was based off of the martial arts consultant for the show

The Iroh scenes in this episodes are so badass, I always get chills when watching them.

They aren't "doing" anything right now, mainly making their way to the invasion site little by little waiting for it to occur. He doesn't need a firebending teacher because the eclipse when they invade will make his fire useless anyway. It's another reason why a lot of people don't really care for the painted lady (last episode), cause that "schedule" is just one of many things thrown in that episode that didn't make sense.

I really love this episode. It really shows Sokka growing and finally having someone to teach him

this is my personal favorite episode as i see myself in Sokka, at least in the beginning. i keep thinking that i'm worthless and useless in a group of already amazing people. yet i can't see what makes me so great. though, if i think about it, there are stuff that makes me unique and good. :)

I think Sokka was able to train with Master Pian Dow cause he became humbled with encounters he's had like with the Kyoshi warriors. Think about the sokka all the way back in episode 4 being in this episode. He would probably get thrown right out.

This is by far one of my favourite episodes in Book 3. It was a great opportunity to give Sokka some much needed development. Not only that but Piandao is probably my favourite out of the masters the gang encountered throughout their adventures too.

Best episode in the series, in my opinion at least. So much going on with Iroh’s transition, Piandao and The White Lotus connection, Sokka’s fruition into a true warrior. Also Piandao is just an amazing character on his own. Imagine how strong of a sword fighter you would need to be to be recognized as not just a member, but a MASTER of The White Lotus. That and his entire character, teaching style and his true appreciation for Sokka’s effort, one of if not the best character in my opinion, up there with Iroh, Zuko and Jeong Jeong.

As someone who has watched AtLA before and they mentioned members of the White Lotus they've seen, I actually snicker quietly knowing who some other members are

Man at Arms: Reforged, Actually did make Sokka's sword and the blade was made out of meteorite just like it was in the show.

This episodes highlights how much of a genius Sokka is he learnt the basics in 2 days he also was able to decipher the plans for the drill and learnt and improved the inventor at the northern air temple inventions oh and he was able to understand the basic principles of sukis fighting style in a matter of hours

Fun fact, when Toph is bending the space earth (as Sokka calls it), one of the designs she makes is the splat Nickelodeon logo. Another fun fact, Aang's armor from earlier in the episode was an early toy design that Nickelodeon wanted to make.

Finally, I was waiting for this episode for the longest time. @ 9:04 is the reaction i was waiting from Eric, Iroh training to be a BEAST!

I like to think more about the Pai Sho tile as an invitation to join the order of the white lotus, which speaks about how much potential he saw in Sokka.

If you look closely, toph bends the space earth into the nickelodeon logo :D Also the area where sokka was training had the white lotus symbol on it too on the ground.

Kinda disappointed you guys didn't talk too much about Sokka at the end but talked about all the other stuff way more when this episode was supposed to be a focus on him, he is the plan guy, the great comedy relief, the relatable one, and the heart of the team

the way I see it, he never mastered what he was taught, he was taught the principles of the style and he used his reflexes/knowledge he gained over his journey and learned enough so that he can then develop as he goes so over this season he should get better and better because he now knows the basics of it and can develop it his own way

I love this episode so much

I'm surprised no one noticed all the White Lotus imagery all of the Sword Master's palace thing, such as the courtyard where Sokka practiced with the wooden sword, you can see the White Lotus symbol on the floor. The White Lotus symbol can be seen practically everywhere if you look close enough.

When Toph was bending the meteorite, one of the shapes she made was the Nickelodeon logo.

There is a greater loyalty than loyalty to any particular nation. The White Lotus organization are more about balance and respect for the spirits of the world. Their loyalty is to everyone and everything. As you see more of Iroh, especially in the second and third seasons, you appreciate more that his actions are always in loyalty to these higher principles. He would have been a great Fire Lord.

I'm satisfied. We finally got to Iroh's workout video and space sword was awesome.

I wish they could have heard the commentary for this episode. I have the whole series on DVD and this episode has some of the coolest commentary. It goes into how Piandao was based on Sifu Kisu, the martial arts director for the show.

fun fact. zuko also trained under piandao which is why he's so good with swords

After many re-watches. The fight scenes with Sokka. When Sokka goes against Fat (the butler) In the first two fights Sokka strikes the first strikes and loses. Then the third fight with Fat he waits till the butler strikes first. Then during that last fight, Fat uses two hands to hold his swords and the moment Fat changes from using two hands to using one hand Sokka disarms him. The same with master Piandao, Sokka waits for the master to attack first. Love Avatar the last airbender - so much attention to detail.

(A comment 3 years later) A sword can be done in 2 days (maybe even 1), as seen by Forged in Fire, where they only get 5 days of work time. I think the quickest forged sword was a day because the contestants sword broke at day 4.

This is the only thing why I like mondays. Or hate them less.

To correct katara, Earth just means dirt. Amd dirt is just made up of organic magerical, minerals, and small rock. She's able to bend all those things, she's now just bending space rock

Next episode is definitely one of my favorites out of the entire series. We really get to delve deep into the emotions of some of our character in that one. Plus it reeks hormonal teenagers XD
