As an Indian, I can say that most of the spirutal entities have Indian names. Bumi(we literally say earth as bumi), avatar(a form of god who descends the earth, to maintain balance) agni(the word for fire). The concept of raava and vaatu is similar to the gods RAAHU AND KETU (two snake like entities often referred together. They are known as shadows which causes eclipse and intersect at the poles(shown in Korra). And they have a period of some years where they meet. Just look about it in the Internet

Renée Peters True but let’s be realistic they lived in a modernised world what would you expect people will lose their beliefs etc. I feel like the only spiritual people were Tenzin and his oldest daughter and Korra at the last season.. One thing that struck me was the episode The Serpent's Pass. The episode was influenced by the book Exodus where Katara (Moses) splits the sea (Red sea) to guide the refugees (the Israelian people) to the other side to be saved from the fire nation (the Egyptians). This definitely isn't a coincidence.

I’ve watched Avatar about 5 times now, and it will never cease to amuse me. Since Avatar is my favorite show ever, I decided to immerse myself more in the story, not by looking at the beautiful and wonderful creative process like I usually do, but more into what inspired Avatar. So recently I’ve been immersed into researching about Buddhism and Hinduism and I can definitely tell where was the inspiration drawn from, I’ve been enjoying this process of studying about a completely different culture a lot, and I love that I get to understand the story and the philosophy of it even more and more. Currently I’ve been really obsessed with this philosophy but I will expand my research and hopefully I will get to know more about the other cultures that inspired my favorite show. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed watching it c:

Saad Mahmood I agree with you!! I didn’t mean it like hinduism is all that. I agree that Indians have a big ego and I hate that they act so proud but in reality they hardly know anything about how things truly originated . But please also understand that I’m not talking how amazing Hinduism is; whether people know or not, most concepts from dharma religions are in fact Hindu. But what I was talking about was how the concepts don’t get represented. Yes we have Buddhist/asian coded characters but none of them are coded as indian. Decent rep is all I’m asking for. Use Hindu concepts all you like, but at least don’t erase actual ancient practicing Hindus

The show's creators based each Bending style on a style of real-world martial art, leading to visual differences in the techniques used by Waterbenders (tai chi chuan), Earthbenders (Hung Ga kung fu, for the most part), Firebenders (Northern Shaolin kung fu) and Airbenders (baguazhang). Also, Bagua is mentioned by Tenzen while trying to train the new Air Nation at the Air Temple, backing this up further.

Buddhism came from Hinduism itself. Buddha i.e. king Siddharth who later become buddha was Hindu itself. He attained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, India and born in Lumbini Nepal in Hindu Family. Buddhism has most of Hinduism teachings , some modified and some different teachings only which were later advertised by different kings from India in East Asia.

Thank you for your informative and well-organized description of the religious and philosophical content of the Avatar series! Great job! My family enjoys the Last Airbender series, but I am also aware that there is a lot of teaching that is happening, particularly for young children who are very impressionable and readily accept philosophy without fully understanding it. Personally, I am a follower of the LORD Jesus Christ, whom I met at age 18. I was interested in Eastern philosophy, exposed the Transcendental Meditation, but learned that I could know God personally through the Lord Jesus Christ. After seeing the work of transformation He had on others, I began to read and study the Bible, and came to believe that Jesus is, indeed, the Christ, the Savior of the world. After seeking him, God opened my eyes and I came to know Jesus Christ, not just as a historical figure, but as the living God, whom we can know and relate with through prayer, the Word of God, and his people. What an amazing thing! -- the God and Creator of the Universe, revealed Himself as Jesus the God Man, or as he often referred to himself, the Son of Man. Through him we understand more fully God's character, and our need for forgiveness. He is both loving and just and truth at the same time! I tell my kids that this is truly the greatest story of all time, yet it is true! As C.S. Lewis asserted, that Christians should "assent to the historical fact and also receive the myth (fact though it has become) with the same imaginative embrace which we accord to all myths. The one is hardly less necessary than the other" (From "Myth Became Fact", essay from God in the Dock, by C.S. Lewis). See the following references from the New Testament regarding Christ as divine: Gospel of John ch. 1 vs. 1-14; Colossians ch. 1 vs. 13-18; Hebrews ch 1, vs. 1-13.

"the buddhist philosophy of confucianism?" where did you get any of this information? buddhism and confucianism are VERY separate theologies, confucianism is literally its own school of thought and was revived as a response to buddhism and taoism, and does not stem from it. it is also common knowledge that the sun warriors are based on the Aztec civilization of the americas. a lot of the information you present is wrong and very sub-par, please please do more extensive research, there's a bunch of free and easily accessible information on these religions that break down all the teachings into bite-sized pieces. (I recommend "World Religions: A Historical Approach" by S.A. Nigosian) You can even find free pdfs of the sacred texts online for every theology, so really, why not present accurate information?

Yes u can say it that even South American tribes do that as well but it all starts from India and sanaatan dharma (which u call as Hinduism) let me tell u a very interesting fact how many planets r there in the solar system 9 right and they all r discovered a few hundred years ago.. But u won't believe we the Indians are worshiping the nav ghrah (nine planet) from thousands of years... We knew the concepts but the fault in Hinduism was the people who had the knowledge didn't spread it properly around the world.... Indias has the first ever university in the world which consisted 100s of subject including medical science space starts language politics and many more student from all over the world came in India to study before but with time the invaders destroyed all are knowledge and cultural things....u should study about Hinduism Nd it's achievements and it's history... We had the exact distance from earth to sun in the hanuman chalisa we knews the exact radius of earth zero was invented In India I have many more things to tell u but it will be very long....... But bro at last atleast once u search about the takshashila on internet it will clear what we indian were and what the invaders made us we were the worlds guru in knowledge and now we indian r just a normal being.. Nothing else... But still of we ignore other things we can still find many things in our vedas and upnishad one more example the person behind the nuclear bomb was inspired by the a verses bhagvat geeta

D-ah-lee-lah-muhh. You not only mispronounced things, but present wrong information. I appreciate the TRY, but it was half-assed as such, disrespectful tbh.

A lot of the points of connection were superficial and surface level. I’m also not impressed.

Stephie Valentine not just that, he took Chi (Chinese) and called it Hindu. Taking the religious stuff, the sacred part especially, and attributing it to other cultures is so disrespectful, I can’t get over it. It also makes any real learning impossible because you can’t tell whats true, whats obfuscated and whats not. I hope dude learned he should do real research into a topic before giving his own crooked opinion. Jus my 2 humble cents tho. Shoulda done research cuz this had the potential to be a great video

I did like a week of research (on and off). I mean just look at the sources. I more or less copied everything they said word for word and clumped it into a video. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ofc you have the right to criticize tho. Just thought I'd clear that up. I'm not gonna learn the nuances of 12 different religions in a week and I have no friends or associates who subscribe to these religions so I just did what I could.

DrUpauli neither do I, and yet i manage to not fuck up. Your sources are SHIT and you should have been cross referencing. Your videos inaccurate and disrespectful. If you had any respect, you’d delete, do REAL RESEARCH, and upload an ACCURATE video.
