I like the animated show it really set up the whole premise of avatar so when I see these live action it just doesn't fit right in my opinion. I'm not a fan of any of the live action depictions. Not saying I could do better.

I am a huge fan of the original myself, I grew up on it. The reason why these live adaptations don't fit right is more often than not they're cashgrabs capitalizing off of fanbases, which I don't mind if they do it right, but in this case it's obvious that the showrunners have no clue about basic narrative, the purpose of dialogue, or how to write characters in general

does that mean netflix should hire me a screenwriter for season 2?

Why does this have 1K views but barely any likes or comments??? It deserves better.

you said on a comment in this video that "the showrunners have no clue about basic narrative, the purpose of dialogue, or how to write characters in general" but how come characters like iroh or zuko who have a different take in the live-action but still contain that spirit of the original are done beautifully? or even certain character interactions that were never shown on the cartoon like? do you think they were lucky and hit a jackpot with some of the changes? because almost single problem of this show that i see is a direct result of either adapting 20 episodes into 8; budget constraints; netflix demanding a show with zero nuances so even a baby can understand stuff; problems with filming schedules because of covid restraints (so no take 2 or take 3 for scenes and lines that look funky) and labor law rules because of the kids. if netflix bump the episode count to ATLEAST 10 or more; let the writers have a more nuanced and intricate telling of the story; raise the budget but maybe they don't even need to do that because there's no Koizilla's CGI level stuff in book2 so were fine in that regard; more freedom in fliming because there's no covid anymore and if they listen to the valid concerns and criticisms, there's no way this can be a great show. Not better than the original because that was lightning in a bottle. if you put together the same team that wrote the cartoon in our times, they probably wouldn't be able to replicate that. as an avatar fan, i want this live-action to be sucessful and i believe they can redeem season 2 and 3.

I think it's safe to say most of us here are the fans of the original and we wanted to see this adaptation succeed, but unfortunately it didn't. Yes Uncle Iroh and Zuko, the fire nation in general, are decently written, I am even using iroh's quotes as my outros. but it's like taking an english test, answering 2 out 10 questions, and proceeding to say your english is good, you know what I mean? I haven't seen the guy's other works but going purely off of this project. Yes, the guy doesn't understand basic narrative and characters. I am not familiar with us labor laws and stuff like that, but guys had more screentime than what they adapted from, an anime episode is 20 minutes, witch makes 20 episodes 400 minutes and 8x6 is 480 minutes, so I really doubt it would've come out any better if they had more screentime to work with

@@fifibombelek i mean, almost all of avatar's book 1 was written in an episodic formula. excluding the 2 first episodes, the winter solstice and the siege of the north, every episode had an arc or a problem that was resolved at the end of the 20 minutes. plus, 15 or more episodes that put the characters in different settings and places make you feel like you see them in distinct situations, making you know them better. one of the biggest problems of the live-action is the lack of screentime between the gaang. if you watched the live-action first you wouldn't feel nearly as much intimacy with aang, sokka and katara as if you watched the cartoon first. that's a direct consequence of the 8 episode formula. some things were clearly rushed because of time constraints. im gonna give you an example so you can see my point clearly. the live-action spends like 5 mins at the southern air temple, but then you see them on kyoshi island for like 45 mins. this show lacks filler more than anything. seeing just aang setting up a sleeping bag or their conversations at night around a fireplace like in the cartoon. or the beautiful ending sequences with them flying on appa. (ep4 did this pretty well at the end with zuko and iroh in the boat). the cartoon was mostly character oriented. the live-action seemed to rush and say everything about the worldbuilding as fast as they can. the show, because it had 20 "mini stories", sprinkled some worldbuilding in every episode by the actions of the characters or their dialogues. all of what i said could easily be fixed with like 12 episodes. that doesn't mean that the other bad points of the show would disappear though.
