Fun fact: AVATAR 3 actually completed filming before AVATAR 2, AVATAR 2 required more time to complete due to reshoots and that 90% of the movie took place in water.

I wonder how they did that with Spider character, because he's human and basically running around half naked the whole film. So did he act like that? Because rest of them wore those special uniforms for perfomance capture and he's not seen in this clip. If he did, well, I guess it may be a bit uncomfortable to act like that the whole time. Or they also did a CGI of his body :P

Unless these shots are not the take they used, it’s very obvious they are not capturing the exact emotion 1 to 1. They are very much adding emotion to the CG characters that are not present in the actual performance.

Motion/performance capture has always been overhyped. It would be better to film the actors with a real camera and then use a style-transfer process to produce the alien face. Deepfakes have shown the way.

I love how Zoe Saldana is displaying more emotions than her CGI character whilst Sam Worthington's CGI'd character is displaying more emotions than him. I'm seriously trying to find an actual good reason why they hired him in the first place other than him being supposedly broke before this.

According to James Cameron several actors who are now "major movie stars" auditioned for the role back in 2006 and were as good as Worthington in most scenes and he liked their perfomances, but none of them nailed the big battle speech at the end of the film except for him. So the speech was the "extra something" that convinced Cameron to cast Worthington. But of course it can be very subjective how much one likes an actor's perfomance.

@@djvapid Sam has the presence of a dry bread, please stop lying to yourself and he is nowhere near comparable to the President in Independence Day, that's a commanding presence you can actually rally behind and it did not feel like someone reading from a script but from their heart which is the exact opposite of that final battle speech in Avatar. It's never about the voice, it's about the emotions and Sam has none unfortunately, I love his C list movies but he is not suited as an actor, this is the same case with Henry Cavill. Guys like them are better fitted as a producer or director but they keep forcing themselves down as actors for some reason. If Cameron hadn't given that clearly rehearsed reason to justify why he chose somebody cheaper to hire retrospectively, then it would be funny to watch you come up with an original & not just copy pasted reason.

@@redcrabdue1787 That's BS. Cameron auditioned younger actors than Sam and expected a mature performance? He was never going to hire them, he was just using them to spice things up because CGI wasn't a hot topic back then, so Cameron had to promote the film in any cheap way he can as it was a huge gamble especially considering the budget. The only old enough actor that he pretended to nearly hire is Matt Damon, I said pretend because the dude knew Matt was filming Jason Bourne (and as Matt himself said, nobody thought Avatar would be a success) so Matt had no choice but to refuse and the young actors will bring some clout as to "who will it be?" suspense even if they don't go past the auditioning process.

The greatest invention in filmmaking ever. Now actors don't need to see the sun or feel wind. They can just act like it's there. Not like the kind of hack filmmaking of jokers like Christopher Nolan who want things to feel "real" AKA outdated!
@perce1veALL
@perce1veALL Жыл бұрын
That's such an ignorant comparison and is devoid of logic. You need to realize that most of Christopher Nolan's movies take place in a real world setting, his movies are grounded in nature and not comparable to this film at all. It's not a difference in filmmaking as much as it is the difference in the genre they undertake because for one, there is no blue aliens in his movies but there are humans and by your logic, I suppose you think humans should also be CGI'd which what the actual hell? That's literally what your comment is implying even if you did not explicitly state it. There's a point where CGI is deemed unnecessary and that's most of Nolan's films, it's not like Pandora or its creatures actually exists in the real world for them to not make everything CG (it's a whole fantasy world, even the terrains are different from Earth). It's kind of ironic that you are mocking Christopher Nolan when before Avatar, James Cameron was known for his practical effects as well. Edit: My point is if Christopher Nolan was making Avatar, he would be forced to make it CGI, that's just nothing you can do practically otherwise it would look like a cosplay reject show. There is world of difference in the type of movies that Nolan makes and the type of movie that Avatar is.

@stopthecap6913
@stopthecap6913 Жыл бұрын
@@akhilnair1137 You do realize that they are talking about motion capture in general, right? Not underwater (you are the one implying it when the user never explicitly stated the underwater tech), because only one bit is underwater in this video. When Cameron used it for the first Avatar, people pretended like it was groundbreaking tech originated from the production of that film because almost nobody saw the value or prestige in gaming back then, they only played it as a hobby. Most A listers don't even know what video games are, point is the production crew took credit for something that they did not create and video games was a fairly unknown medium which they took advantage of.
@akhilnair1137
@akhilnair1137 Жыл бұрын
@@stopthecap6913 since when did they imply that motion capture was innovative in this movie? Motion capture has existed way before the first avatar movie. I'm specifically talking about the innovation in motion capture that this movie did, and one of that includes underwater motion/performance capture. As for 2009 avatar, that movie was also innovative in creating realistic camera movement in a virtual environment. What games before 2009 do you know that did that? That's because this movie was the first to do them before any videogame. If anything it's the videogames that took advantage of this movies innovation, because you could see similar technology in the last of us games, uncharted and even both the god of war games.
