I saw Avenged Sevenfold play in NYC with Falling in Reverse back in June, this song was SO good live. I listened to A7X all the time while studying English and Zoology at csu, I even made an "Avenged Sevenfold saved my college career" posted that was unfortunately confiscated because Madison Square Garden doesn't allow large posters X( but still, it was such a glorious show and the piece of college student stuck in me after graduating in 2021 was finally at peace. Would love to meet these fellas one day and thank them personally.

References to Truman's Show "in case i don't see you again good afternoon, good evening and good night", and philosophy in the line "smart enough to know nothing at all" (Socrates), made it my favorite song of A7x. I consider it a master piece that had the braveness to do something different adding unpredictable things, and putting weird effects in certain moments, without sounding "hard to hear", the expressiveness of the vocals it's like a theatre performance, using reverb to sound So far away from us (in certain moments), lyrics are just perfect referring a daily metaphor, and finally singing nor playing this song isn't close to be Almost easy 😉. A wonderful song that really describes the life in the eyes of monotony, and how people are just slaves of the desires that came out of nowhere, filling our internal abyss with "normality", and refusing to accept that we lost humanity trying to be humans, sometimes feeling like we're being Buried alive in this catastrophe that we call "Society".

This sounds more like some thing SOAD Would have made, and it looks like it too. It’s honestly good for A7X it’s not the same but not quite too weird to stuff they’ve done before it’s a nice middle ground. I’m loving it!!!

I agree. I hate to talk shit but QOTSA’s new album just sounded like imitation of their old stuff this year. It lacked that pop. By comparison, I didn’t like this new A7x album at first. But it was just bc I didn’t know how to mesh with it. I listened to it probably hundreds of times since it came out now and I love it. But a friend of a friend who happens to be in metal bands brought up a good point to me. This might not even be considered a metal album, ya? It’s so experimental. I love it. It’s amazing that avenged sevenfold finds a way to remain authentic while becoming something new entirely. And I’m sure this has part to do with each of them, but I’m happy they’ve found a new stride with their newest drummer also.

@@jonathanhammond5563I know what you mean by it not being a "metal album". I think it's rooted in metal, but also very deliberately stepping out of that box. I've also read some entertaining back and forth comments about whether or not this counts as "prog". They somehow managed to be prog to the point that they pissed off the prog purists. Considering the themes of ego death and existentialism, I think the erratic stylistic choices on the album are very artistic. The album's defining identity is the lack of genre identity. And, bizarrely, it does feel cohesive to me despite being all over the place.

I think this might be their best song when you consider how melodic everything is, the concept, the imagery portrayed, and the emotion poured in every moment. The bridge vocals @ 3:30 send chills down my spine. The emotion can be felt. The song is about everyday life in society being based on fantasy rather than reality. This idea of everything being fake even bleeds into the guitar solo in the bridge @ 3:00 sounding like synth. Insanely clever. “While boredom tears me apart at the seams” also touches on mundane day to day routines caused by superficiality and the need to imitate. I think this directly plays into the band’s desire to not shit out another Nightmare, Self Titled, or HttK album, which they could have easily done. (Great albums btw) There’s also the idea of living inside a simulation, and there’s even a direct quote taken from the movie The Truman Show when he sings “and in case I don’t see you again, good afternoon, good evening, and good night”. And the musicality is just on another level. The first 2 “I’ve smelled the plastic daisies” Choruses 1:09 don’t pay off right away like a normal A7X chorus. They are only the vocal progressions with light keys that hint at the theatrics to come. After the bridge, the final Chorus 4:20 pays off in a HUGE way with the entire band joining before one of the most theatrically fitting outro moments I’ve ever heard in a song. The post Chorus outro at 4:35 sounds like something you’d hear in an uplifting part of a wholesome movie. It’s almost sarcastic in its delivery. Awesome stuff. I personally judge songs by if it makes the hair on my forearm stand up. For myself, this song sustains that feeling for almost the entirety of its runtime.

I took my son on Sunday to see A7X for his 8th birthday. He sat on my shoulders and sang every word to every song. This was my 4th time seeing A7X live and his first concert completely. I am 30 and have been a fan for 15 years. It was awesome to have my kid rock with me to my all-time favorite band. It was such an experience and a memory I will hold forever. Thank you! 🤘
