this is without a doubt the best avenged sevenfold song ever, not because it's 11 minutes long, but because it has soul, probably the best guitar work they have done, best drum work, best lyrics, best bass line, best vocals, and the best structure, it's like every thing avenged sevenfold has ever been up to that point in that one song, the breakdown could easily go on sounding the seventh trumpet or waking the fallen, the solo's have a city of evil feel to it, the piano and orchestra backing's could easily come off the self titled album too, but that is just my opinion, but they need to play this song more often, maybe as the last song, yeah unholy confessions is a great song to finish with, but this one kinda beats it

Great points, sir. I absolutely love this song and feel that it is not loved enough by some. Also, when Avenged Sevenfold was interviewed about their favorite songs from Nightmare, most said either "Save Me" or "Buried Alive"

This song is an absolute masterpiece. Super melodic, sad, epic, and full of raw emotion with a deep tone. A7X truly reached their inner Dream Theater in this song. The whole Nightmare album was musical genius, I'm grateful to have the instrumental version of the album, it's absolute bliss to listen to. Every band member is exceptional at what they do and their style is absolutely unparalled. I could go on forever talking about Avenged Sevenfold but the point is, they are criminally underrated.

I may be concerned as a overly sensitive sissy but I started to cry with the widest smile of my life at 9:32, while watching it with my girlfriend. It is not only the greatest band or the song of all fuckin' time, but also us, all of the Deathbats worldwide, for making these magical moments come to life, watching this even on KZfaq is truly astonishing... I can't find proper words to describe my feelings at that time. Goosebumps, chills and a tear falling down my cheek. We don't need to hail to the king. We need to hail to these 5 guys, because they create moments that make us all forget about all the evil in the world, when we all together sing this one line with the power of hundreds of thousands voices. Some may hate us or me in particular but I simply love them. For all these things that they have done and are going to do in the future, I will stand by them foREVer. We all love Avenged Sevenfold. This song was added after The Rev’s death to add on to the songs they already had remembering him. Though many say this isn’t written about him, it is and has been stated before.

I wonder if Shadows got singing lessons before/during city of evil. If you listen before then, he lacked the control and had an even more nasally tone. There are still a few aspects of his voice that make me think he didn't and he just figured himself out a bit more.
@jonhbill606010 жыл бұрын
He actually did get vocal lessons around/during that time! He went through Ron Anderson to help him sing with grit. Which is why you'll notice his voice got a lot more gritty after Waking the Fallen. He had a bit of it in WtF but that seems to be natural, the grit on CoE is definitely produced with technique.
@ffta7079 жыл бұрын
his voice was more nasily in coe than wtf...
@joelcoool9 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered why on warped tour 03, which was just after waking the fallen was released, they played a few songs from the first album and he screamed the way he did on the record for them which supposedly was wrong and the reason his screaming changed for WtF. That probably made no sense but basically if he changed his screaming why did he scream the old way for the old songs if it was wrong
@ExternusArmy9 жыл бұрын
ThunderHawk606 It might've been for the sound, but it could also just be because it's more straining. There are demos prior to them 'training' with Murdock for WTF where his screams are like his STST screams. Murdock probably directed him to scream a different way to preserve his voice. Even before he blew out his voice, he refrained from screams live. There's a lot of 2002 footage where he changes screams to pitches to preserve his voice. But in all honesty, the answer is kind of hard to say.

@@tinobrigatti7201 Don't be so mean to him! He did a good job while he was with them... He had really big shoes to fill, and now we have Brooks, who is like a demigod just like Jimmy, so comparisons are harsh.

Hope that everyone here is okay. Please be safe and remember that people care about you, even if it may not feel like it sometimes. If you are feeling troubled, maybe professional help is the answer, or talking to a trusted friend about what you are going through. Wish you all the best.
